The One Where the Author Comes Back
“Pound it!” As Ladybug and Chat Noir’s Miraculous’ beeped, Nadja Shamak approached them with her camera.
“Don’t be bemused, it’s just the news. Here I have Ladybug and Chat Noir, live and in the flesh.”
“Hey, Najda. If you’ll excuse-” Ladybug was interrupted with a microphone getting shoved in her face.
“Have you two begun investigating the series of meurtres occurring throughout the city?” The two heroes exchanged glances, then answered in unison.
“Quoi meurtres?”
“Surely our heroes have heard of Paris’s very own tueur en serie?” The reporter continued when she received only confus expressions. “There have been four bodies found in the past week slashed with a couteau. The police officers have not gone public with any evidence, but-” Chat Noir’s ring interrupted her.
“Mes excuses, madame. We really must be going, but we will start our own investigation with the consentement of the officiers de police. L. B?” Chat Noir nodded away from the press, holding his ring up to show he only had deux minute before he revealed who he was beneath the mask.
“Droite! Au revoir! Bug out!” The two heroes ran from the scene, neither one content with separating before having a discussion about what they had no knowledge of.
When Chat Noir hopped back into the bathroom, transforming back into Adrien, he stopped the water just in time to hear a knocking on the door.
“Chaton? Are you d’accord?”
“Je vais bien!” The boy exited the bathroom to see y/n standing right in front of him. The distance between them sent both teens into a blush as they backed away from each other.
“This hour, we have confirmation that Chat Noir and Ladybug are indeed working to solve the meurtres occurring in our very own town. More information to come.” The television switched to commercials, and Adrien released a breath he was unaware he had been holding in.
“Who were those people in costumes?” Y/n asked as she sat on Adrien’s bed with her eyes on the screen. She looked to him, her e/c eyes with a light that could not be forgotten.
Adrien sat down next to her. “The boy in black is Chat Noir, and the girl in red is Ladybug. They are the ones keeping us safe from dangers.”
“Hmm.” She looked back to the television and Adrien fought the urge to put his arm around her neck and ruffle her once orange hair.
___________
After Adrien made sure Y/n was asleep:
Chat Noir hopped to the red and black figure looking out into the city of Paris.
He bowed down to her, “Hello, Milady-tective. You ready to find this killer?”
Ladybug forced her partner to stand upright. “I don’t know what to do, Chat. I was doing my own research, and I can’t see any reason to think it is the same person killing.” She opened her yoyo screen and swiped through numerous images of a figure in a dark cloak. “Besides the fact that all the victims were stabbed and/or had their throats slit, there doesn’t seem to be any connection.”
“This is quite the turn of pace. Does Bugaboo think this to be the work of Hawk Moth?”
Ladybug rolled her eyes at the sound of the old nickname given to her by the hero four years ago. She put her yoyo away and held her chin with her fingers as if she was concentrating. “It can’t have been, he can’t release two akumas at once. And we have been fighting his victims everyday for the past month.”
Chat Noir performed a dramatic facepalm and smiled, “Of course! How could I forget about the increasing time I get to spend meowing Milady?” He smirked at the smiling girl.
“Chat, this is serious. People are-”
A piercing gasp exploded throughout the air, grabbing the two heros attention and focus.
As soon as they heard it, the night was as silent as ever; a cold chill blooming in Chat Noir and Ladybugs’ stomachs.
Without saying a word to each other, they both went to find the source of the sudden noise.
The heroine was pulled into the shadows, Chat’s ears sticking up higher than usual.
“Milady?”
“Chat?” Her voice seemed to be moving in the shadows, and Chat Noir was spinning in circles, just trying to figure out where his partner had disappeared.
“Ladybug?”
From behind him, he could hear a cold voice that did not seem to spark any signal of familiarity in his head. “Here, kitty. Kitty. Kitty.” The cloaked person spoke the last word in such a spiteful tone, Chat Noir wanted to kill them. However, when he turned to face the voice, he saw that the figure held Ladybug with a knife to her throat.
“Let go of her,” Chat threatened. He twirled his baton to prepare himself for a battle.
The cloak chuckled a chilly chuckle that seemed to be completely devoid of any emotion. “Or you’ll what? Tell me a bunch of corny puns? You are a weakling, ‘Kitty’.” Although he couldn’t see any identifying features beneath the hood, Chat Noir had inferred that this attackee must have been of the male nature. The unknown figure pushed the knife closer to Ladybug’s throat. “You are NOTHING!”
Ladybugs’ eyes had begun to water as she thought of how much power this person held in their hands. She knew she had to think her next action through, or else she'd get cut. “Chat…”
The hero bent his legs even more, ready to peel this villain’s skin off. “This is your last warning.”
“Ha! You think you intimidate me? You are blinded by your love!”
“What do you want?” Ladybug asked, her eyes shifting towards the knife that was now digging into her arm.
“His ring.” The figure nodded towards Chat’s jewel.
“You don’t have to do what Hawk Hoth says. We can help you!” The hero lunged towards his swift enemy that let out a wicked chuckle.
“I am not simple pion sent by a la mauviette such as that old man,” the figure spat out as they moved out of the path of attack led by the feline hero.
Their response startled Chat Noir; “Then, who-”
He was sent off the roof from the impact of the stranger sending him a kick in the gut. The hooded person released Ladybug, who raced to save her flirtatious partner.
“I am none of your preoccuption.”
________
“Aidez-moi!”
The fist was pounded into the small boy’s face once more. “Nobody can hear your screams, you weakling!” The man held the unconscious boy up by his collar in a demonstrative way.
“Do you see what happens when you do not obey?” He threw the small child across the room, and only a handful of children even flinched. Amongst the large crowd of minors, there were boys of every age from seven to eighteen. The younger ones flinched, and a few allowed a tear or two to slide down their cheeks. On the other hand, none of the older students even seemed to notice the apparent abuse being demonstrated. This was the group that didn’t blink, tense, or even speak unless spoken to by the adults.
Nonetheless, all the boys remained sitting with their legs crossed; except for the one girl. She was not the shortest, nor the tallest of her age. Of all the children in that room, she was the one that cried the most, and she was the one that stood and ran to the curled up boy.
“Arretez, s’il vous plait!” She bent to him with her heart hurting for the older boy.
The adult began walking towards the two with a dead pan face. “Huílái” The grip on his whip tightened.
Tears began streaming down the young female’s face as her face boiled with anger. “I, I don’t know Chinese!”
The older man picked her up by the strands of her orange hair that was dyed blond, throwing her against a wall. She yelped, and lay on the ground for a second, wishing for Emilie to save her.
_______________
Ladybug jumped off the building and threw her yoyo, which wrapped itself around Chat Noir just in time to save him from hitting the concrete.
“Are you alright, Chat?” They both stood on the ground, catching their breath. The mysterious stranger leapt from the building they had just been on, to another.
“Who was that?” Both hero’s eyes followed the figure as they ran into the darkness.
Ladybug put her finger on her chin, what she usually did when she was in deep thought. “Je ne sais pas, Chat. Whoever it was, they weren’t working with Hawk Moth.”
Chat Noir put his arms in a “W”. “But, he still wanted both our Miraculeux.”
His partner put her hands to her side, her blue bell eyes full of confusion. “It looks like we have a new enemy.”
Chat Noir crossed his arms and raised an eyebrow: “Qu'est-ce qu'on fait, Milady?”

Note from the Author:
Hey, guys! So, I’m sorry I haven’t updated in a while. I have been on my other account recently, sort of neglecting all 30+ stories on this account that I have to update.
I have started taking submissions for covers, if that is something you’d be interested in. Just PM me, and we can work out the details.
Self-Advertisement:
Do you want my full honesty?
This story is the one I am most proud of, despite the fact that it isn’t the most popular.
HOWEVER!!!
My story, The Dance of Our Lives, is my first finished story! AND, it’s an MLB fanfiction! I started writing Our Eyes (which is the sequel), but I’m worried nobody is reading it. If you have some free time, feel free to check those out.
Okay! I….think I’m out!
Sorry for the short length!
Adios!
