Chapter 06: Playing With Fire

The ongoing wedding reception around Lisa was beyond amazing to say the least. Every detail was fancy and over the top, as expected of the Jennie Kim.

The color motif of the 'Wedding of the Year' was black and white monochrome, the former being the bride's favorite color. It also had a very strict dress code; every guest — even the Maid of Honor and bridesmaids — was in black attire.

It would look like a funeral was taking place in the huge ballroom if it weren't for the fact that there was a goddess in white, slow-dancing with her new husband in the middle of the dance floor.

Chaeyoung was in the grand piano, playing 'River Flows in You' for Jennie and Yoongi's first dance as husband and wife. Lisa watched the couple moved rhythmically to the music, both looking like royalty who were lost in their own fairy tale. It was an awe-inspiring sight straight out of a romantic movie.

Then, because she couldn't help it, her attention diverted to Jungkook who was seated at a table on the other side of the room.

"You're practically blowing Jeon Jungkook with your eyes," Lisa turned to a smirking Jisoo. "Be careful, maknae, because the guy looks like trouble."

It was true that she had been staring way too much at Jungkook all night. There was no point in denying it so she gulped down her glass of champagne instead.

After the married couple's first dance, a string quartet took over and a few guests started slow-dancing as well including Jisoo who was asked by Baekhyun.

"I hope Jen unnie knows how lucky she is that I love her to death 'coz I won't be playing that piece for anyone else ever again." Chaeyoung dramatically complained as she took her seat beside the youngest.

"You did great as always, unnie." She winked. "Oh, and by the way, I know you don't want to hear this. But, your asshole of an ex-boyfriend is at your three o'clock."

The amber-haired beauty heaved an exasperated sigh. "You're right, I didn't want or need to hear that. God, I need a drink." Then, she left the youngest alone in their table.

Lisa subtly gazed at Chaeyoung's ex-boyfriend whose father was also a high-ranking official in EXO. The tall and lean mobster arrived late for the celebration; the girls even thought he won't be attending at all. But alas, Park Chanyeol was here and her friend was in an even worse mood tonight.

Sitting beside him were some of the high-ranking officials in the mob, too.

There was the bossman himself, Kim Junmyeon, who was more popularly known as Suho. He became the head of the mob when his father retired last year. Lisa knew Suho to be a decent enough guy; Jisoo and Jennie were even childhood friends with the 26-year-old. But, they had been gone for quite a long time. Now, the youngest wasn't exactly sure how being the mob boss changed him.

Oh Sehun and Kim Minseok, Suho's second-in-command, were also in attendance.

A sudden tap in her left shoulder startled the brunette. "It's time, Lisa." Hoseok cheekily grinned at her.

She was dumbfounded, "time for what?"

"The time of our lives..." he sang.

Pure horror was evident on her face when she finally got it. "Oh my god, please tell me you're not saying what I think you're saying."

He shrugged cockily. "You lost the bet, babygirl."

"I was drunk out of my mind! Shame on you, oppa! You know better than to bet against a poor intoxicated girl!"

During their dance battle in BTS' hideout two nights ago, she drunkenly bragged to the mobster that she actually memorized the steps to the final dance scene in the movie Dirty Dancing. In her defense, he was mercilessly beating her ass at Dance Dance Revolution and she just wanted to prove— pathetically at that — that she was the better dancer between the two.

It backfired, of course, when Hoseok became ecstatic upon hearing her revelation. He bet her for it during their last game; if he wins, Lisa will perform the iconic scene with him whenever, wherever. They even shook hands under the watchful eyes of Kim Jisoo to make it official.

In the end, the outcome wasn't much of a surprise to anyone with half a brain. The whole thing just proved the standing theory that Kim Lalisa can be a stupid bitch sometimes.

"You know the choreography, Lisa, and you're a fucking dance machine, remember?" The mobster jested as he pulled the brunette out of her seat. "Humor me, please."

"Ladies and gentlemen, the Maid of Honor and one of the groomsmen prepared a special number for us tonight," Seokjin announced in the microphone. "Give it up for Jung Hoseok and Kim Lalisa."

"I can't believe you're making me do this right now..." The brunette wailed when she heard the opening melody of the song from the large speakers scattered around the ballroom. Hoseok only laughed in response and led her to the middle of the dance floor.

Now, I've had the time of my life

No, I never felt like this before

Yes I swear, it's the truth

And I owe it all to you

'Cause I've had the time of my life

And I owe it all to you...

Just like how it usually was when she was about to perform in class or in front of a crowd, Kim Lalisa's demeanor automatically changed. She held her head up high and straightened her body, ready for the initial twists and turns of the choreography.

Together, they gracefully danced to the music, their bodies in perfect synchronization as if they had practiced the routine before. When one of them messed up, the other quickly improvised. Their performance was far from perfect but Lisa found herself just enjoying the moment. As the song progressed, she even felt relaxed enough to laugh with the guests when Hoseok did Johnny Castle's solo.

When it was time for the finale, Lisa ran to Hoseok and prayed to all the Gods who would bother to listen that the mobster catches her. Fortunately, they both executed the iconic lift without a hitch and the crowd erupted in cheers. She swore she even heard Jisoo shout "Lisa bear, come through!" at the top of her lungs.

"I concede, babygirl. You are truly the better dancer between the two of us." Hoseok giddily whispered to her ear.

"Oh shut up." The brunette giggled, "thanks for not letting me fall to my face though."

Inadvertently, she found herself looking at the table of the Bangtan Sons again and made eye contact with Jungkook. He was clapping along with the others, chocolate brown eyes bright with amusement and a small grin on his pink lips.

She was having the time of her life, indeed.

After the whole Dirty Dancing bit, Lisa spent the rest of the night in the pleasant company of Chaeyoung, her beloved dance partner, and Mr. Worldwide Handsome himself. It was awesome how quickly they formed a bond with the two mobsters over the course of a week.

She was on her way to the restroom to fix her makeup when she suddenly found herself face-to-face with Oh Sehun.

Puberty has been good to him, Lisa thought as she gazed at his now model-worthy physique. She can still remember when he was a tall, scrawny kid who used to bully her every day back in primary school. The 21-year-old was one hell of a jerk then.

"Lalisa... long time no see," the mobster greeted her.

"Hello, Sehun-ssi. How have you been?" She was not in the mood for any small talk at all but he was blocking her way and she didn't want to seem rude.

"Same old, same old. I gotta say, you've grown beautifully, princess."

It took everything in her not to grimace at the pet name. "Thanks, I guess."

"I've been meaning to talk to you all night. But, you and Chaeyoung seemed busy chatting up with those Bangtan fuckers. Didn't know you two are close to them."

The brunette didn't miss the accusatory tone in his voice. She narrowed her eyes at him. "Well, we are. They have been nothing but civil to us since we came back so I don't appreciate you calling them that."

Sehun humorlessly laughed and gripped her right arm, "you're still the naïve little Lalisa, I see. At the end of the day, Bangtan is still our enemy. Don't you girls forget that."

The mobster made her feel twitchy back then and it seemed like that didn't change after all these years.

"There you are Lisa, I've been looking all over for you," a strong, velvety voice uttered from behind her. She instantly recognized that it was Jungkook's.

The look on Oh Sehun's face was menacing. "We're busy here Jeon, if you haven't noticed." The EXO mobster spat, his grip on her arm tightening by the second.

Jungkook completely ignored Sehun though and continued to gaze at her instead, "the bride is asking for you." Lisa thanked the good heavens for this much-needed excuse to be nowhere near the EXO mobster at the moment.

When Sehun's grip on her arm loosened for a bit, she grabbed that opportunity to quickly walk away from the mobster into Jungkook's side. "Let's go, then." Both went to the direction of the ballroom without another word or glance at Sehun.

Jungkook turned to her when they had walked a considerable distance from where Sehun was. "Jennie didn't ask for you actually. You looked uncomfortable in there and I figured you needed help getting away."

"Yes, I did. You arrived just in time. Thank you." She beamed, feeling incredibly grateful for the person in front of her. Then, remembering why she was in the hallway in the first place, she asked, "where is the restroom, by the way?"

"The closest one is near where Oh is. There's another one on the other side of the ballroom though. I'll accompany you there."

"There's no need for that. I'm sure I can manage to find the restroom on my own even at a house this big."

"I don't mind." He shrugged and started walking again without a reply from her.

The guy is too much, she thought as she stared in his retreating back. How can a person be that gorgeous and kind and dangerous and thoughtful and hot... It was all just too much!

Lisa sighed and followed him closely behind.

The brunette looked at her reflection in the mirror one last time before she went out of the restroom. Her makeup was flawless again after a quick retouch. But, it still didn't do anything to hide her flushed face thanks to the presence of the Golden Maknae.

Lisa found Jungkook standing alone near the Mins' huge swimming pool, a lit cigarette on one hand. She took her sweet time walking to him and just admired the picture-perfect scene in front of her.

"Hello, Baby," he grinned at her after exhaling a cloud of smoke and stubbing out the burned cigarette on the heel of his expensive brown shoe.

Did he— did he just call me baby? She internally shrieked.

Jungkook softly laughed when he saw the bewildered expression on her face. "You did dance as that movie character 'Baby' with Hoseok hyung, right? Or did I get the name wrong?"

"Oh... that... yeah... you're right." The brunette wanted the ground to just swallow her already. She slumped in a nearby chair. "Remind me never to bet against Hoseok oppa again," she complained in an effort to change the topic.

"Your performance wasn't all that bad."

Somehow, her problem with her father came to mind, much to her dismay. "Wow, thanks for the great boost in my morale."

Jungkook seemed to pick up on the sudden underlying somberness of her tone. "What's the matter?" He took a seat next to her.

"Huh?"

"Something seems to be bothering you..."

Lisa shook her head, not wanting to spoil their night with her drama, "not really, I'm fine."

The mobster raised an eyebrow at her, waiting.

"God, you're stubborn. Seriously, it's nothing! Just some sob story that you don't want to hear, believe me."

Jungkook groaned, "that just makes me want to know more. You can tell me, Baby. We're practically family now, aren't we?" He joked.

Family, my ass! Lisa made a face at him.

When it looked like the mobster wasn't going to let it go anytime soon, she decided to lay out everything in the open.

"It's just that... tonight was the first time my father saw me perform and I sort of didn't want him to. You see, he has never supported my passion for dancing." The brunette weakly smiled, "I attended a performing arts high school to pursue my dreams of becoming a professional contemporary dancer, but he didn't let me enroll when I got accepted to NYU. I worked my ass off for it all my life and I had to give up on my dreams just like that..." She snapped her fingers, "I did warn you about this sob fest."

Jungkook continued staring at her. "For what it's worth, I think you were born to perform." He continued softly, "I've never seen someone dance as remarkably as you did earlier."

After a moment of silence, his eyes suddenly glinted with determination and a hint of mischief, too. "So here's what you're gonna do. Enroll in a fucking dance school. Get a scholarship or something, I don't know. Just do whatever it takes to achieve your dreams. Don't fucking waste your passion and talent. To hell with your father!"

The brunette was hindered speechless by his outburst.

He turned to stare at the gleaming swimming pool. "If dancing is what you want to do for the rest of your life, then do just that, Lisa." He then looked back at her with a small grin forming in his lips.

At that moment, with the full moon casting a soft glow on his beautiful facial features, he looked like an angel who was cast out of the gates of heaven just to ruin her.

She smiled back.

Listened to Troye Sivan's My My My while writing this chapter. Gahhh, the song just pretty much sums up Lisa's whirlwind of emotions, don't you think?
