Valentine Day Special

Before the Avengers and Percy left for Camp
Loki POV

You are Loki Odinson. A mere mortal means nothing to you.

No matter what I mutter to myself, these nerves I have, do not go away.

A deal was a deal. Even I, the God of Lies, know better than to try and cheat Aphrodite. The tales of those who wrong her are common knowledge in Asgard.

Of course when she told me I had to ask a lady that works. I knew exactly who she was talking about.

Which leads me to my current seating place in a little cafe just a few blocks from the tower. The walls are lined with mortal books, some quite interesting, and their tea is one of the best I have had.

I come here often when I need to think. It is peaceful and helpful to coming to figure out life here on Midgard and how to help Percy.

There was always one maiden here that served my tea for me. She first laughed at me when I came in, an act very few would dare to do. I was having great difficulty with the plastic card Tony had given me.

Her laugh enchanted me, after I realized she meant not harm. I introduced myself as Loki but not using my full title. She wasn't afraid of me. She didn't call me a monster or an alien. She just asked if I wanted sugar in my tea with a smile.

After that, she always made a point in talking to me. She wanted to see the world and explore. Her endless questions tried my temper at first, but I was able to get used to it. She was innocent and pure.

When Aphrodite said I had to ask her on a date, I knew it was the right time to do it. The mortal ways of courtship are new to me and Peter had to explain to me. But I believe I know how it works.

But it doesn't help my speeding heart beat.

She finally comes out carrying a tray with my usual tea and biscuit. Her hair is pulled back messily and flour is on her apron. Her working manner only makes her more beautiful to me.

"Here you are Loki," She sets down the drink.

"Thank you Lillian." I smile at her. "Could you join me for a moment?"

"I think I can spare a moment." She glances around the almost empty cafe and smiles. "What's up?"

I do not understand why I can't just ask her, it is a simple midgardian thing.

"If you would be willing, would you care to join me on a date?" I blurt out.

She laughs. And I can help but look away as my heart fell. I was just rejected.

It takes her a moment to respond with, "I would be honored to Loki. When were you thinking?"

"Would a four days from today be okay?" I ask.

"That is perfect."

Morning before The Night Shift

I glance out over the camp, it should be okay if I disappear for a few hours. I had a promise to keep. No one will miss me here.

Percy hasn't moved from the basement and if he does, Steve says he will watch over him just in case.

He is the only one I have told about this date. I needed help trying to find out what to do. He would be the one least likely to make fun of me, besides Percy.

The only problem was he did not know much about dating these days. He suggested to ask her what she wanted to do and to tell her the truth. I think he didn't know who he was talking to.

I checked my appearance again in a small mirror on the wall and teleported to an alleyway next to the cafe.

A small bell rang on the door as I pushed it open. Lillian was not behind the counter as usual but had her hair down and sitting at one of the tables.

"There you are!" She jumped to her feet and brushed off imaginary dust from her pants. "I was worried you wouldn't come because you haven't been here for a few days."

"My apologizes, Lillian." I smile at her, "I must be honest, I do not know what to do in this town."

"That's okay." She smiles back and makes her way to the door, "I know just the place we can go."

"Where is that?"

"It's like a grownup Chuck E Cheese. They have laser tag, go-carts, and a bunch of other games. You'll like it a lot."

Her words only confused me, "What's Chuck E Cheese? And laser tag and go-carts?"

Lillian's laugh echoes down the street as she flags down a mechanical carriage coming our way, "Things are sure different in England, aren't they?"

I had to lie and tell her I was from Midgard. So I nod in agreement as we open the door and climb in.

"Can you take us to Boondocks please?"

"It's out of city, it's going to cost extra." An older man looks back at us.

"That is fine, just take us there." I respond, taking Lillian's hand. I look up at her to make sure she is alright with it, she just smiles in return.

It takes us about a half hour to arrive at this place. I get out the car and hold open the door for Lillian.

We walk inside. Laser tag is immediately on our left. A small restaurant is a corner up head and long with the place to play. The middle and to the right is covered in various arcade games. We approach is I pay for a full day. She leads me outside in doors still holding onto my hand.

"Look! There's no one in line for go-carts!" I give her a confused look. "It's like a car, but smaller and sometimes faster. We use it to race each other here."

"That sounds like fun. Let's us go try."

"I can't wait to see the look on your face when I beat you." She laughs as we wait for the worker to let us in.

"That won't happen." My smile widens.

I swagger over to a green and black cart and she gets in a golden one.

She smiles wickedly at me and looks ahead. Lights appear up ahead. red, yellow, then finally a green.

We race forward along the track, head to head for the first few turns. She quickly cuts me off on the next turn right as the finish line comes into view. I am right on her tail as we cross the finish line.

"That was not fair! I declare a rematch." I stand up from my cart trying not to smile.

She laughs, "I won fair and square! But we can race again. I'll still win."

We run around the park like idiotic mortals having fun. But that is exactly what we are doing. I win most of the games of laser tag, but she wins most of the go-cart races. And I am okay with being beaten by a mortal. As long as that mortal is Lillian.

We arrive outside her apartment door. She gives me a shy look as she fiddles with her keys. I don't know what to do, so I peek into her mind to see what she wants.

She makes it quite clear she wants me to kiss her. Would that be too fast though? Mortal standards still confuse me.

"Thank you for the great night." I lean down and my lips gently rest on hers. I quickly pull away from shyness. It's been centuries since I have last kissed someone.

I give an awkward nod and walk off to the elevator. As soon as the doors close, I teleport back to camp.

I'm just in time to see Percy leave the basement for what appears to be the the first time.

~^~
