Lies and Truths
Percy's POV
Tony's bowl fell in slow motion. I watched it but couldn't move to take care of it. I was frozen and hopeless. I couldn't save it, just like I couldn't save them.
I take a deep shaky breath, trying to push down my anxiety, "I have something to tell everyone."
Tony just stares at me. He blinks once and looks at the mess on the ground.
"I can clean that up. Sorry for scaring you." I run my hand through my hair.
Tony steps over the mess and wraps his arms around me in a tight bear hug. Just like the hugs Frank gave to me.
I barely hear him mutter, "I was so worried."
He then steps back and punches me.
"Don't you ever do that again I will do more than punch you."
I can't help but smile, "I will take a note of that."
"So what did you need to tell me?" He asks.
Dang. I hoped he forgot.
"Yes... about that." I bite my lip, "I need to talk to everyone about that."
"Jarvis," Tony calls out.
"Yes, sir?"
"Assemble the Avengers."
Ten minutes later, after assuring there was no real threat, all of the Avengers take a seat on the couch.
"What was so important that you woke me up from my beautiful sleep?" Clint asks while pulling over a purple hoodie.
"Oh we know that no matter how much sleep you get, it will never fix your face." Natasha retorts as she takes a seat next to him.
"Guys, I don't want to have a fight this early." Bruce interjects.
"Don't you remember what happened last time?" Steve adds on sitting next to Bruce, "Clint don't challenge Natasha."
Thor and Loki sit on the last couch, next to Tony. "I remember when that occured!" Thor laughs, "The tricks lasts for weeks. Lady Natasha beat Son of Barton! There was hardly a chance he won. Or will in the next match."
"Tricks? Maybe we should trade tips." Loki surprises me. He hasn't talked at all in a while. Just observing everyone.
Natasha just scoffs in response.
"Okay, guys, let's listen to the kid. He's the reason you're here." Tony pulls us back on track.
I move from my safe zone behind the counter and walk over in front of the group.
"Percy?"
"Son of Jack! You're back!"
"How are you walking?"
"Wait, why didn't I notice that before?"
My eyes widen by all the sudden questions.
"Guys, be quiet." Natasha shuts them up.
"Where did that awesome wheelchair go?" Tony asks.
"I think it's still in my room. I don't know though."
"It better be."
"We should be discussing more important matters. Not some chair that is not needed any more." Loki criticizes
Tony is about to fire back when Bruce interrupts, "How did this happen?"
"That brings me back to what I want to talk about. When I got dropped into the sea, the water healed myself."
"Because you're a mutant?" Clint tries to draw the two points together.
"No," I take another shaky breath. "I need to tell you guys everything."
"Percy are you sure?" Loki sits up straight.
"Yeah, I think. You guys need to know it." My uncertainty is clear in my voice.
"What do you need to tell us?" Natasha asks in a concerning tone.
"Let him talk and we will know." Bruce's tone is sharp but gentle.
"Okay, so do you know the Greek myths?"
"Yeah, like Zeus and them." Tony answers.
"So in the myths the gods used to come to earth and have kids..."
"My gosh, are you one of them?" Natasha exclaims.
"Yeah," My voice is barely steady as I continue, "I am the son of Poseidon; god of seas, horses, and earth shaker. Or called a demigod or half-blood"
I force myself to meet all of their eyes. But instead of seeing fear and hate, I am met with admiration and strength. Loki offers me a genuine smile when my eyes float over him and Thor.
There's a small gap of silence while I let them absorb the new information.
"So what does this mean? Like so what you're the son of this god. But Thor's a god and we don't see mini Thor's running around." Tony wondered out loud.
Thor let out a hearty laugh, "I have had some children in the past. Asgardians never held the same relationship with Midgardians like the Greeks."
"You haven't noticed us because of the Mist. It's this thing that prevents mortals from seeing the truth. Like my sword, when I have it, most people think its a baseball bat or a gun." I answer Tony's question. "We attend a camp called Camp Half-Blood. There we are safe and train to fight monsters."
"Monsters. Like from the myths?" Clint's disbelief is clear.
"Exactly like that. I've fought the Minotaur a few times now. But demigods are constantly at danger, especially those with powerful parents."
"So since your father is Poseidon, you are constantly in danger and at risk." Natasha concludes.
"Exactly. I've been at risk my whole life."
"So how does this tie into these wars?" Bruce inquires.
"It will be faster to tell my whole story." I breathe in deeply. "When I was 12, I was accused of stealing Zeus's lightning bolt. I was able to find it with the help of two friends. About a year later, we traveled to the Sea of Monsters to find the Golden Fleece to save camp. After that, my friends and I had to travel across country again to save Artemis and another friend. I had to hold the sky. By the time I reached 16, I had done all of this including traveling through the labyrinth. This was all to stop Kronos from rising. His main man was called Luke. He was a good person. He was in the end."
I pause and notice I've shared too much at once. Steve looked like his brain was melting. Tony and Bruce were analyzing it all. Clint looked confused. Thor and Loki both, actually, smiling.
"I can give you all more specific details later. If you all want."
"Is one of those 'friends' Annabeth?" Clint teases.
I can barely bring myself to nod. I think he takes it for shyness instead of sadness because he smiles and mutters something about young love.
"Would you like to tell them about the most recent war?" Thor asks innocently.
A sadness comes over me. The happy thoughts of the good old days are gone. Replaced by the horrors of what is.
Leo appears in the corner. My eyes go wide being able to see him.
He approaches where I stand and mocks my stance, "So whatcha going to tell them, hermano? That you killed us all? It somehow wasn't your fault, when really it was?"
I mistakenly look into Leo's eyes. A coldness sets over me and petrifies my soul. How did I let all of this happen?
I barely notice Loki stand and approach us, "Leave him alone! He does not deserve this."
"On the contrary, Oil Hair. He deserves every word." He teases as he backs away and with that he's gone.
"What was that all about?" Natasha questions us sternly.
"Percy is being haunted by his friends. I do not know why." Loki answers not giving me the chance to lie.
"But why would you be haunted by them?"
I force myself to take my gaze off the floor and declare, my guilt and shame evident, "It's because I'm the reason they are dead."
