Authors note: foreshadowing

I use many literary techniques or devices throughout my book series 'Genesis 64' including allegory, irony, foreshadowing, juxtaposition, symbolism, and "shout-outs". Every week or so often I will highlight a different technique, explain it and give examples that I used in my writing. This week's technique is foreshadowing.

Foreshadowing is an advance sign or warning of what is to come in the future. In the Bible this is called prophecy.

I use medium-range and long-range foreshadowing in 'Genesis 64'. An example of medium-range foreshadowing would be Lauren's dreams about the old Papuan man found in chapter 10 of 'Red Oak Spring'. She finally meets him in real life in chapter 3 of the next book 'The Missions Trip'.

An example of long-range foreshadowing in 'Genesis 64' would be Kate's dream of living in 1865 Washington, DC that we read about in chapter 1 of 'Red Oak Spring'. Does this ever come true? How could it possibly come true?? Stay tuned....

I use this technique mostly  in dreams  but it can also be used outside of them, as in the case of how Jonah tells Kate about the 'great warrior that is coming' in chapter 12 of 'The Evil Inside'.  You can imagine you'll find out someday who the 'great warrior' is.

These are just 3 examples of foreshadowing - did you find the other times I used it?
