~~~~~
When Trinity awoke, she knew something was different.  She felt it all over her body, and her head and heart ached tremendously.  She slowly propped herself up on her elbows and winced at the pain in her head.  "Ow," she muttered, and put a hand to her temple as she sat up, noticing her fallen sword at her side and slowly reached for it, grasping the metal hilt and getting to her feet.
Trinity, Ruby whispered to her mind, and Trinity turned to see Ruby sitting up with her tail wrapped around her stomach tightly, claws scraping against the stone floor.  But there was something wrong with the red Dragon.  Trinity could see it in her eyes.  They were glassy with unshed tears.
Trinity blinked.  "What-what happened?  How long was I out?" Trinity asked carefully, her voice full of fear, but when Ruby moved her tail aside, Trinity grinned.
Nestled warmly against their Mother's belly were five Dragon eggs.  Trinity lifted a cautious hand and ran it smoothly over the white shell of the first egg.  "They're beautiful, Ruby," Trinity whispered, and smiled up at her Dragon only for the massive beast to bow her head.  Trinity frowned.  "What's wrong?"
Large tears fell from the red Dragon's eyes, and Trinity began to cry as well, although for what, she had no idea.  Trinity quickly wiped at her face and picked up her sword.  "I'm going to tell Clover the good news, okay?"  At that, Ruby roared quietly under her breath and dropped her head to the floor as she continued to cry.  Trinity was beginning to worry.
Clover!  Guess what?  You have five new Dragon eggs!  Isn't that great!? Trinity thought to her green Dragon, but the words never left her mind.  The Mind Speak allowed Trinity to see her Dragons words in color once they reached her thought process, like how Ruby's words were red like her scales and Clover's were green.  But the thought process to Clover was now a dull gray.
Trinity fell to her knees, her sword dropping from her hand as her palms pressed against the jagged stone floor to keep her upright.  Trinity breathed heavily as tears filled her eyes.  "No.  It-it's not true.  It can't be.  Clover can't be-," Trinity let out a sob and clasped a hand over her mouth.  Ruby's tail wrapped around Trinity's waist as the red Dragon lifted her up and placed the young Princess on her back as she finally let loose her sobs, burying her face into the red scales of the only Dragon she had left now.  "It's not true!" Trinity cried, and curled her hands into fists.  Ruby nuzzled Trinity's long black hair with her snout.
Trinity, your eyes, Ruby whispered to the Princess, and Trinity lifted her head slowly as Ruby grabbed a piece of dirty broken glass from the ballroom ceiling between her claws and placed it in front of her.  Trinity dropped down from Ruby's back and slowly placed her face in front of the glass, before gasping in shock.  Trinity hastily shook her head before grabbing her discarded sword and smashing it down on the glass, breaking it into even smaller pieces.  Trinity's shoulders shook as she cried silently, shutting her eyes tight against the sheer and ugly truth.  Trinity's eyes were no longer a bright forest green.
They were now a blood red.
Several footsteps sounded from the long dark hallway, and Trinity immediately lifted her sword and stood protectively in front of Ruby, who was still mourning over the loss of her Dragon Mate.  Trinity had stopped crying and just waited for the intruders to step into the light of the now rising sun.  The footsteps stopped and Trinity's anger flared, her now red eyes brightening at the sight before her.  It was King Abernathy and four of his personal Guards.  Trinity's lips turned up into a sneer as she stepped closer towards Ruby who had begun to growl at the King.  "Get the hell out of my Castle," Trinity ground out through clenched teeth, and her Father's eyes widened at the sight of her.  He knew this was no longer the Princess of Abernathy, but the ancient Dragon Queen in her place.
"Trinity, listen to me," her Father began slowly, and took a step forward until Ruby snarled loudly in his direction, her red eyes becoming slits at the sight of the King's sword.
Trinity, the blood on his sword, Ruby quickly said to the Princess, and Trinity's red eyes darted down to the fresh blood dripping from her Father's sword and took a sharp intake of breath.
"What have you done?" Trinity hissed, and felt heat start to surround her, the small strands of her hair lifting up.
King Abernathy lifted his chin high and said strongly, "I have saved my people."
"You're a monster!" Trinity bellowed, and the heat around her had become even hotter.  "You haven't saved anyone!  You've just murdered a Royal!" Trinity screamed, and Ruby roared behind her, seeming to echo her cries.
The King took a step back, his Soldiers holding their swords at-the-ready against the Princess.  "What are you talking about?"
"The Legend, Father.  The Dragon King and Queen who ruled this Castle fifty years ago bore two children, only they were born as Dragons and not people."  Trinity scowled.  "You broke my connection with the Dragon Prince of Clover, and you shall pay greatly for hurting us both," Trinity directed her sword back towards Ruby, and the King followed her gaze where he glimpsed the five colored eggs hidden behind the red Dragon's tail.  He inhaled sharply.
"It has multiplied," he hissed, and looked to his four Soldiers, "kill the Dragon and it's eggs."
The Soldiers stepped forward and Ruby roared in warning as Trinity directed her sword towards them.  "You will not harm them!  Take one more step, and I swear to you I will burn you all to a crisp," Trinity threatened, and the four Soldiers froze in their steps, afraid of the Dragon Queen before them.
"She can't harm you now," the King spoke, and a small smirk graced his lips.  "Her Dragon is dead, so she no longer has any fire power."  The Soldiers snickered then and advanced on the Dragon Queen.
At the words 'Her Dragon is dead', Trinity's body flared up with tremendous heat until she was engulfed in flames, Ruby roaring loudly behind her.  Trinity's angry red eyes landed on the four Soldiers in front of her who were now shaking with fear.  "You forget I have one Dragon left," Trinity said on a smirk, and ran at the Soldiers with her flaming sword, swinging it down and cutting the first one in half in a flurry of fire, tearing through muscle and bone as blood stained the stone floor, the other three Soldiers fleeing for their lives.  "Ulrick, don't let them live."
"With pleasure, My Queen."  The Ghost Knight appeared in white wisps before the last three Soldiers, and they screamed in fear as the Ghost Knight cut all three of them down, his blade arcing through the air as more blood stained the cracked stone flooring.
Trinity turned to the King then, who was now shaking but held his sword up nonetheless.  "Ulrick, retrieve Leo," Trinity commanded, and her Ghost Knight bowed before disappearing, Trinity's body and sword still lit up in flames.  The Dragon Queen lifted her sword with one hand and pointed it directly at the King as he took a careful step back.  "You killed Clover, a Prince of the Dragon Royals, and my best friend.  For this, you shall pay in your own blood," Trinity spoke, but this time it wasn't only her voice anymore.  A shimmering figure appeared above her, Trinity completely oblivious to it, and took a fiery step forward as the King took another step back.  "You shall be the end of the Abernathy line.  There will be no more war, and Dragons shall ride alongside Humans peacefully, as it should be."  The figure above Trinity finally took shape, and King Abernathy nearly dropped his sword in both shock and fear.
It was the Golden Dragon Queen.
It had only been an hour or two since Leo and Clover left the Castle, shooting a line of fire in front of the Abernathy Soldiers had slowed them down some, but the ones who survived the flames continued on.  Flying high in the sky, Clover had eyes on every Human down below, and once he spotted the King riding on horseback around the line of fire with his personal guard, Clover roared loudly in anger and dived, Leo clinging to his spikes in order to stay on the green Dragon's back.
Hovering just slight of the King's head, Clover used his claws to grab the King by his shoulders and hoisted him into the air as he screamed and writhed with his sword in hand.  Slashing at Clover's clawed hands, the King's sword dug deep and Clover roared in pain, releasing the King as he plummeted to the ground only for his Royal guard to catch him and save his fall.
Clover shook his head and flapped his wings harder to get higher up in the air, but his vision was becoming clouded.  Clover!  Are you alright? the Prince's voice echoed in green thoughts to the Dragon, and he shook his head to clear it only for his flight pattern to stagger as they plummeted a few feet, until Clover recovered just in time.
Something-something's wrong. . .with me, Clover said back to the Prince, and plummeted to the ground until they crash landed, bringing up grass and soil in their wake as Leo flew off Clover's back from the impact.  Clover lied still, his chest heaving up and down rapidly as the Dragon Prince snorted smoke weakly.
Leo groaned and pushed himself to his hands and knees, shaking his blonde head of lingering dirt and stumbled his way over to Clover's side.  Clover!  Tell me what's wrong!  Leo made sure Trinity's hair was still attached to his tunic's belt, and looked past the Dragon's body to see the King and his Royal guard making their way towards them, the rest of the army fleeing as Leo caught sight of Ulrick and his other Ghost Warriors attacking the army, driving them back.  Running around Clover's head to stand beside him, Leo drew his sword that was strapped at his side and held it up threateningly towards the King and his guards.
"You are a traitor to your Kingdom," the King spat out at the Prince, and stepped forward with his own sword drawn.
"At least I'm not a traitor to family," Leo spat back, and the King's face grew red in fury.
"Step away from the beast, Prince Leonardo," the King ordered, and Leo only stepped closer to Clover who was still unmoving.
"No.  The only beast I see here is you," Leo smirked at the King's angry red face, until he swung his sword down and Leo blocked the hit with his own.
Duck, Leo heard the single green-lit word echo in his mind, and quickly pushed on the King's sword as he went staggering backward before Leo dropped heavily to the ground just as Clover turned his head, opened his mouth, and breathed a line of fire at the King and his guards.
The King, however, had noticed the Prince drop to the ground, and so did the same just as the Dragon's fire burned his men alive.  Only four had survived and had smartly dropped down to the ground with their King.  Once the Dragon's head fell back to the ground weakly, he knew it was only a matter of time before the poison settled in and removed the beast from this world entirely.  It was a waste of his time to still be here.  He had other matters to attend to.
"Men, let's move!" the King ordered as him and his four last remaining Soldiers ran towards the crumbled Castle, leaving Prince Leo and the Dragon behind.
Leo jumped to his feet and quickly moved around towards Clover's stomach since he was now lying on his side, and pushed with all his might to move him.  Clover chuckled lowly in the Prince's mind.  It's no use.  Just give up.  Clover winced in pain and dug his claws into the earth below him.  Prince Leo ignored Clover's voice in his head and continued to push until his legs gave out and he collapsed from exhaustion.
I don't understand.  Leo breathed heavily and lifted his grey-eyed gaze evenly with Clover's bright forest green ones.  The same eyes as Trinity's.  What's wrong with you?  Why won't you get up?
Clover snorted and closed his eyes before lifting his injured clawed hand for the Prince to see.  The King's sword was poisoned.  It pierced right through my scales and is spreading throughout my body as we speak.  Clover weakly dropped his clawed hand back to the ground.  We both know I'm not going to make it.  Clover opened his eyes as they locked onto the Prince's glassy ones.
"You can't die," Leo spoke aloud, and shook his head.  "You can't!  What about Trinity?  What about Ruby?  What about your children!?" Leo demanded, and clenched his hands into tight fists.
Clover moved his head and nuzzled Leo's knee.  My body may be gone, but my Spirit won't.  I can promise you that.  Clover smiled and closed his eyes once again.  I know I said I would learn to like you because of Trinity.  Now I need you to do something else for me.
Leo nodded without a second thought.  "Anything."
I want you to stay by Trinity's side, and I want you to protect my Mate and children.  I won't be able to be there for them physically, but I can spiritually.  You'll see me again soon.  I never break a promise.  Clover's eyes suddenly shot open then, and they became glassy as a giant tear fell from his eye.  There are five of them.  And they are beautiful.  Clover's eyes slowly closed for the last time, and his heavy breathing stopped altogether.
Leo choked on tears and dug his fingers into the upturned earth, his body shaking with anger and sorrow.  Until he felt breathing on the back of his neck.  He froze.  Slowly turning his head, Leo's grey eyes widened like saucers at what he was seeing.
It was the Silver Dragon King.
