Chapter Twenty-Three
Linda's POV
Getting out of my car, I entered my house at the late hour of 11pm. Of course, that was after writing an undertaking in Grace's house that we would have a sleepover by weekend.
Let me tell you something, Grace could be a serious pain in the ass whenever she felt like it.
I entered into my room in so much happiness as I flung myself on the bed. I blocked off my thoughts on everything concerning work and instead filled it with tactics on how I would make the sleepover take place in my house. Not too long after, I was sleeping like a baby.
My baby sleep was disturbed the next morning by a wickedly buzzing alarm. I loathed the music and my ears were starting to get irritated at its sound. Dragging myself off the bed, I turned off the alarm and prepared for work.
Getting dressed was always difficult for me, coupled up with my goal of showing class with my clothes at work. After tossing and flinging a couple clothes on the bed, I settled for a blue gown and black blazer. Packing my hair into a bun, I slipped on a pair of blue heels and carried my bag after putting my phone in it.
Making sure the house was in a bit of order, I grabbed my car keys and dashed off to work.
My phone rang. It was just as I had expected. I was going to listen to Bryan's version of the story.
I answered the call and began, "You didn't tell me beforehand that you were finally going to give her the ring."
"That is definitely not a way to say good morning," I could bet he squeezed his face just from the tone of his voice.
"I'm sure you weren't expecting one. Judging from the way you already prepared your reply," I teased, monitoring the road so as not to hit any cars.
"Good morning," he muttered like an offended baby.
"Okay, okay, Good morning. Let's cut the chase. How did you decide to spill the words after all this while?" I swerved and turned into the parking lot. Putting my car into a smooth stop, I killed the ignition.
"She was starting to get angry with me at really petty things. I thought I should give her what she truly deserved. I proposed." He said and I could feel the excitement and love in his voice.
"I'm happy for you guys and I'm so excited that I'm going to plan a wedding," I smiled into the phone as I picked up my bag and went out of the car.
"Linda, how do you plan to handle being a psychologist and planning a wedding?" I heard the worried tone of my friend and I wanted to knock him.
"Bryan, this isn't the first of its kind. Don't start this morning." I commanded.
"Okay, okay. What do you think of dinner together? I'm inviting Jason." He said.
"Aaargh, you guys want to steal my dinner time again. I'm not a CEO like you, you know? I work for an hospital."
"Thanks for agreeing. See you 7pm. Grace's house," he said very hurriedly and cut the call. I cussed silently under my breath and wished I could kick him in the leg.
I slipped my phone into my bag and smiled, remembering what a good friend Bryan was. He and Grace were like manna sent from heaven to me. My feet moved briskly as I made my way to the office. I had another early appointment. I hoped my patient was someone who kept to time. That was one virtue I admire in a person.
I was just finishing with my patient when my phone rang. I didn't have to check the caller ID to know who it was. It was Jason and I was bracing myself up for the squeals that would soon be released into my eardrums.
"Hey," I answered the call excitedly.
"Did you hear? Of course you've heard, but I can't believed Bryan proposed," Jason squealed into the phone. The squealing was not as loud as I had prepared for.
"Yeah. It was bound to happen sooner or later," I replied.
"Maybe, but I didn't expect it to be this soon. Doesn't mean I'm not happy though. You're coming by 7 right?"
"Not like I have a choice," I groaned remembering I had to go.
"You'll be fine dear. See you by 7pm," he said and dropped the call.
I put my phone on silence, expecting no other calls. Business continued for the day.
Just as I had imagined, I didn't finish early enough. I couldn't get home to change my clothes or anything. I simply went straight to Grace's house.
Three naughty faces welcomed me into the house. I wasn't surprised that even though it wasn't 7pm yet, they were already gathered.
Among them, I was the only one who working for an external body. Grace had an art gallery and a music studio, she managed the studio with Bryan. Although Bryan didn't have all the time since he owned a real estate business. His business, however only three years was growing quite fast. And there was Jason who now owned a restaurant. Of course, his choice of business shocked us all the most but we have given him the best supposed we can. There was me too, doubling being a psychologist and planning weddings. Somehow, running around and putting a wedding in place was one of the things I love to do the most.
There was no disputing that I loved it as much as I loved psychology. I couldn't come to place which I loved more. I ended up doing both.
"You're earlier than expected," Grace shouted as was her usual tone for greeting.
"Am I?" I asked, sitting on my favorite sofa.
Jason fist bumped me and said, "Welcome to our dearest psychologist."
"Thank you, and how was the restaurant today?", I questioned smiling at him.
"Fine as usual," he said and Bryan groaned.
"You know I would still greet you Bryan," I teased.
"Yeah, always last."
"Guys, I'm starving. Last time I checked, we're here for dinner." I said and Bryan started to make his way to the kitchen.
"Is there a time you're not starving?" Grace snorted and I frowned at her. Folding my legs into the chair.
"Well, I'm busiest of y'all here," I said and looked towards the kitchen as the guys took over setting the table. That habit was never going to leave them. I concluded and looked away.
"Blah, blah, let's eat anyway."
We stood up from the chair and went to the kitchen table. Silently looking as the men filled our dishes. We started to eat and soon we were relaxed and sharing the day's stress with each other.
I looked at smiled happy at the set of people we had become I'm just a space of four years.
As we smiled and chatted, that particular day, I couldn't help but notice that someone was missing among us. I couldn't help but remember that dinner we had together on the day before Grace and Bryan's last paper. I couldn't help but remember that we were five not four. I couldn't help but remember that one person that had a way of getting us worried. I couldn't help but remember that one person I considered my first patient. I couldn't help but remember Steve. Steve.
Hey guys
Don't beat me, I know it's late. That's why I decided to update two chapters at once. Do forgive me.
