Chapter 9

When I finally drifted off to sleep, I was able to relax more than I have ever relaxed before. Sleeping next to Austin was the best feeling in the world. I felt safe. I snuggled in tighter not wanting to get out of bed..

"Emily, are you up?" I heard Austin ask.

"I am now. Why?" I sat up, still half asleep, and rubbed my eyes.

"Oh, nothing. It's just ten O'clock. No need to worry." He was using his soothing voice again and it took me a minute to put together what he had just said.

"Crap! My mom is probably freaking out! Can you give me a ride home?" I jumped out of the bed and started to look for all of my things. Then I realized that I didn't actually have anything with me. I then just stopped and looked at him.

"Of course love." He gave me his smile again. It was cute, but I was on a mission. A mini mission to get back home, but it was still a mission. Me daydreaming about him was going to have to wait.

"Remember, this was only the first date. We weren't even supposed to kiss yet. I just..." I didn't know what to say.

"You just got carried away?" His smile had returned.

"Something like that. Now we gotta go!" I stood by the doorway, pretending to be stern, waiting for him to get out of bed.

The smile was wiped from his face again. "Right, sorry, coming. Do you have everything?" He asked before we left his room.

"Yea, I think I'm good." We both hustled out the house. When he opened the garage door, of course there is a bright blue mustang, one of the most beautiful cars I had ever seen.

"Wow." My mouth was open wide.

"I know." He smiled again.

"What's that for?" His smile was cute, but he normally flashed it my way before he did something more or less spontaneous.

"I guess before I tell you I should say I'm an opportunist." My puzzlement made him laugh, then he kissed me. "Need I explain further?"

"I think I got it." I said, breathless.

"Ladies first." He opened the passenger side and I hopped in. It was nice and very comfortable.

Most of the car ride was pretty uneventful. The only interesting thing that happened was when he turned on the radio and one of his songs came on. Of course he couldn't help but sing along. He didn't sound half bad, and the song didn't suck as much as I remembered it.

"Don't you want to sing along?" He offered, still awkwardly singing to his hand as if he were holding a microphone.

"Sorry, but I don't know the words, and I would probably sound pretty terrible." He put his hand on my knee. This is why I don't like wearing dresses. I politely slid it back off. His smile faded again. "Look, I know we kissed and everything, but I don't want you getting any ideas. This was just the first date."

"I know, I guess I shouldn't be surprised. You aren't as easy to charm as everyone else." His smile came back, "Besides, this means we get to go on a second date."

"I mean, I don't know." Of course my answer was going to be a big fat yes, but who knows, it might be fun to mess with him a little.

"What? Don't tell me you didn't have fun. That was the best night of my life!" He said more enthusiastically than I ever thought possible.

I didn't want to tell him that I felt the same and I did want a second date. "Okay, but on one condition."

"Sure! Anything for you." His eyes kept traveling from the road to my face. It seemed like he really did care for me.

"It's at my place this time, and I decide what we do." I gave him a smirk, "My rules now." I had no idea what my rules were going to be, I just loved giving him a hard time about it.

He laughed. "I should've known. But that still sounds like a date to me. When's your next open day?" Next open day? He spoke as if he were ten years older.

"Ha! I should be asking you that question. I never have any plans, but you have a band, and concerts to perform at." My smile left my face. "When is your next concert anyway? Isn't it far away?" I struggled to keep the fear from spreading across my face, I was just getting to know him and now he might have to leave. I didn't know why this was worrying me so much.

"Yeah, actually I have one next month. It's going to be two hours away, but I can rent a private plane and be back in one hour." He looked at me with his sweet smile, but I could tell that he felt what I was feeling: a slight sense of loss. He must've wanted to ignore that feeling for now because he said, "Hey, turn up the radio. This is my favorite song."

It just so happened to be mine too and we both sang a few verses together. I wasn't half bad if I do say so myself. By the time the song ended, Austin was pulling into my driveway and I could tell that Soph was waiting inside.

"So this is it? Nice house." I knew he was trying to be polite.

"Oh shut up." I said with a smile as I started to get out of the car.

"Wait. I think you're forgetting something." He called out to me as I started to get out.

"What?" I said as I stood just outside of his window, waiting to know just what I was forgetting.

"Come back here, I'll give it to you." There was that smile again. Even though I knew what he was going to do, I leaned closer anyway. He landed one more kiss before I actually left. "Don't forget," He called after me, "Tonight! Seven O'clock."

"How about tomorrow? And I'll call you."

"If it's tomorrow you better make it six. I can't wait that long to see you." It did sound nice to hang with him tonight too, but I thought I could use some time to talk to Sophie.

"You're going to have to. Bye Austin." I waved him goodbye as he drove off, but he had to get in the last words.

"Love you, Em!" That took me by surprise a little. You know, the kind of surprise that makes you want to take off flying. I walked into the house with my roses in hand and a smile on my face. When I opened the door, I got this...

"Hey, Em. You have to tell me every detail about last night. Go." Sophie was blocking me from going any further. She sure was determined to know everything.

"Let's take this to my room."
