Chapter 3

I ended up telling Soph more than I wanted about what happened before the concert. She kept asking me a bunch of weird questions like what was he wearing, was he cuter up close, he was super sweet, and what did he smell like. The last one was the weirdest of all.

"A blue shirt," I answered for the first one. That question was weird as well, hadn't she saw what he was wearing at the concert? "No, I have no idea, and he smelled like a person, I guess. I don't know what to tell you, he seemed like a normal, human person. I didn't even recognize him at first." I gripped the slip of paper tightly in my hands as I told her all of this. I didn't want her to freak out even more than she already was.

"I get that you aren't a huge fan of him or anything, but you could've at least introduced me. Austin is my favorite person in the world! He is so cute and he sings so amazingly! And... what do you have in your hand?" She pointed down and my closed fist.

I had made the mistake of glancing down at the paper. "Nothing, just a stupid piece of scrap paper I found on the ground. That's all."

"If it's so stupid then why'd you pick it up? It's probably all dirty anyway." She took it to throw it away, but not before a quick peek. She froze, "DUDE HE GAVE YOU HIS NUMBER! You have to call him back right away! Every girl who ever lived fantasizes about getting a celebrity's number! You have to call him right this second! Where is your phone, Emily? This is the biggest deal of your life!" She frantically searched her pockets, and then mine, for a phone.

I took it out of my pocket before she could grab it and held it over my head, "Before I give you my phone I just want to let you know that I have never fantasized about getting a celebrity's phone number. Especially not from that guy. I personally don't like his music or anything about him or his band."

She swiped it from my grasp, "You better get rid of that attitude before I get him on the phone. Do you want to answer since he gave you his number?" Soph asked as she dialed the number.

"Nah, I don't want to."

"It's dialing. Here," She handed me the phone.

Of course, "What do I say?" I whispered to her. She just shrugged.

"Hello." He had picked up. Damn.

Soph made the go on motion with her hands. "Uh, hi. This is Em...Clarabelle. Clarabelle from the concert. My friend told me to call you." Soph gave me a quizzical look. I gave her an eye roll in return.

"Well whoever it is, is very wise. I've been waiting for you to call!"

"You have? Why?" Sophie was looking at me as if she were going to burst. She tried to come closer to listen into the call. I just shrugged her off.

"I don't have your number so the only way I could get it would be if you called. I've been wanting to say thanks."

"Why? Because I slapped you?" Soph looked at me with shock. I guess I left that part out. "I'll tell you later." I told her.

"Is that your very wise friend? Can I talk to her?"

"Go for it." I handed the phone to Soph which she then held as if it would shatter into a million pieces.

"Hello." She managed to squeak out. "This is Sophie, I'm probably one of your biggest fans, by the way." she turned to glare at me, "Also, I should apologize for...my friend's act of slapping your gorgeous face. I mean it's not gorgeous. Okay it's very gorgeous. Wait, what was I talking about?"

I couldn't tell what half their conversation was about, but I knew that most of it probably went as well as the introduction. He might have also told her the whole story about what happened at the concert, but this is all I got:

"Oh she did? That sounds like my Emily...You didn't know her name?...Well it is...I know right!...so what really happened between you and her that night?...OMG you do! That's so amazing!...Do you want to have coffee sometime with me and Em...Yea that would be great if you are still in town...ok, see you then...bye."

I looked at her with a sense of awe. She just talked to her imaginary boyfriend with total ease. I wish I could do that, not that I have an imaginary boyfriend or anything. "So what did I hear about coffee?"

"Oh nothing, but he is still in town and wants to meet us for coffee! How great is that?"

"When? I don't think I can handle much more of him without puking." I made a little hand gesture to show Soph what I thought about this whole thing.

"Oh be nice Em. If this works out you guys might end up dating. It's tomorrow by the way. Save the date."

"No way, he's totally not my type." I told Soph sharply, trying to reassure her I was not interested, but there was a slight trace of sarcasm behind my words that I could not shake.

"Em, every boy with a pulse is your type. I better go. It seems like you have a lot to think about before tomorrow." Soph responded as she practically jumped up and ran out the door. What am I going to do with that crazy girl?
