Chapter 14
The next morning when there was a knock at the door I went running. Guess who was standing right there on my doorstep.
"Hey, Austin. How are you doing?" I asked casually when I opened the door.
"I am amazing and I have some good news too." His spirits were close to bursting and his smile was spread so wide that it seemed that it would fly right off his face.
I knew what he was going to tell me, but I didn't want to spoil his moment. "What is it?" I fluttered my lashes and tried to hide my guilty smile.
"My band and I had a day off-ish so I brought them here for you to meet! How cool is that?" He seemed so enthusiastic, but I had no idea what to say; I was too terrified to move. I don't want them in my house.
I was going to try and protest when suddenly the four other members of Concealed came out from behind the car. "Hello, Emily. So this is the girl you were telling us about? She is quite beautiful." One of the band members said when he saw me in the doorway. I just gave a slight wave.
"Thank you...Uh, what's your name?" I was shocked. And no, it was not a shock of delight. I thought I would meet them when I went to a concert, not on my porch.
"Is she for real?" The guy with blue hair asked. Austin just chuckled.
"Yes, she is for real. She was never the biggest fan of our band." Austin commented as he put his arm around my shoulders. He looked almost proud.
"Then why are you with her dude?" This was asked by a guy with long blonde hair who looked more or less like a hippie. He sounded like one too.
"Because she's hot Marty." Austin tried to lighten the mood with this statement, but that didn't work. He could tell that I was tense, but didn't quite know how to get me to relax.
"Come on in I guess." I was still kind of shocked by this surprise. I thought he was going to tell me about the song he wrote for me, not introduce me to his entourage.
They filed in one by one and I tried to keep track of them. One was pretty tall who looked normal enough if it wasn't for his odd tattoos. The hippie, Marty, was actually pretty short and I described most of him already except for his very colorful outfit. He was also the only one whose name I knew besides Austin. Then in came the guy whose hair matched his bright blue eyes and he was only about a foot taller than me. He was also the one that called me beautiful. Austin might have to watch out for him, he was cute. The last member was a pretty shy kid who, I do have to admit, was also pretty dang cute. I could not find one flaw in his facial features. He was also the only one who seemed to have any manners since he managed to squeak out a quiet 'thank you' when he came in.
Austin came in last. "So how do you like your surprise, Em?" He kissed the top of my head.
"They seem like kind of a handful." Already Marty and the blue haired boy were getting into a fight while the one with the tattoos tried to get the quiet one to speak. "How do you control them, exactly?" I questioned.
"Oh it's actually quite simple," he whistled and they all settled down. "Now, y'all be kind and introduce yourselves to Em here, okay?" He demanded. Y'all?
There was a unanimous 'yes' among all of them. "Marty, you start." The one with the tattoos commanded.
"Hi I'm Marty," Marty said.
"I'm Ricky," The one in the tattoos said after. It was odd how his name seemed to match his personality so perfectly. "And I see why Austin has his eyes on you." He looked me over.
"Thanks, I guess...And you?" I nodded to the one with blue hair, trying to ignore Ricky's statement.
"I'm Jason."
"And I'm Ryan," the quiet one tried to speak up.
"But we all call him mouse," Ricky added.
"Well that is very good to know. I'm Emily, as you guys have probably already heard." I felt so awkward speaking to the whole gang. "It's nice to finally meet all of you." I lied.
"We have heard so much about you," Jason said as he grabbed my hand and planted a kiss on the back of it. "I'm the charming one." His eyes were so big and blue I felt as if I could swim in them.
"Watch yourself, Jason, that's my girl you're talking to." Austin came over and stood right next to me. Jason held his arms up in surrender and started to back off, not before delivering a wink in my direction.
"I just thought we'd get things straight in case she changes her mind." He added as he stepped aside.
"Changes her mind about what, smart ass?" Austin took a slight step closer, but it was enough to make me nervous.
"Well, you know about..." I cut Jason off.
"Does anyone want something to drink?" I was practically yelling. I did not want another fight to break out in my living room. "Or to eat, maybe?" I thought that by acting as a waitress I would be able to get away from all of them for a bit.
"Water would be great. Or maybe an Earl green tea." Marty requested. I was dead on about the hippy thing.
"This is a house, Marty, not some five star hotel." Austin remarked. I could tell he was trying to protect me, but he was coming off as sort of a jerk around the other band members. His personality had changed drastically.
"It's okay, Austin. I think I have some tea. Anyone else?" Everyone else shook their heads no. "Alright then, one tea coming up." I excused myself to the kitchen. Austin followed.
"Sorry about them. I guess they can be kind of a handful. Is something wrong?" He asked as I grabbed a mug from the counter.
I guess he saw me hesitate when I picked it up. "It's nothing. I just thought that you were going to tell me about your new song, not bring over you entourage. Not saying that I don't appreciate the thought or anything, it's just that they are quite a handful." As we spoke I could hear a commotion going on in the other room. It sounded like something broke. I didn't want to know what it was.
"So Sophie showed you the song, huh? That was supposed to be a surprise." He chuckled, "That's why I brought them here, so that we could perform it to you first before anyone else. It's about you." He winked at me.
"Soph figured that out," I was blushing, "From what I heard it is a really good song. I look forward to hearing it in person, but..." I paused for dramatic effect.
"But what?" He raised one eyebrow.
"Sophie will kill me if she doesn't come too. Is that too much to ask?" I bit my lip. I knew that was one of his weaknesses.
Austin ruffled his hair, "No of course not. Sophie is always invited. Except on dates. Is she here now?" Austin knew me so well. I bet he knew the answer to his question before he even asked it.
"Uh, yea. She practically lives in my room. Thank you so much Austin!" I was so excited that my two favorite people had the chance to become friends. Not many people get as lucky as I do.
"It's no problem Em. Anything for you." He tried to kiss me, but I managed to dodge it.
"But I do need you to do something for me real quick." I held him a little less than a foot away, my hand resting on his chest.
He crossed his arms and tried to look mad, "What is it?"
"Finish Marty's tea for me. Please and thanks!" and I ran out of the room as fast as I could to get Soph.
"Could you be any louder, Em? I could hear you coming from a mile away. And what is that stench coming from downstairs?" Soph complained as I burst into my own room, might I just point that out.
"That's probably Marty. Now throw on some clothes and meet me downstairs because Austin brought over a surprise for you. Now let's get going." I flew down the stairs so I had time to wrangle up the boys and get them ready for Soph's descent. Marty refused to do anything until Austin got him his tea.
We heard her stomping before we saw her, "What is it Em, you woke me u.....OMG it's Concealed! Ahhhhhhhh!" She looked so happy it seemed as if she would burst. "Oh my gosh, Austin I could kiss you right now." She opened her arms to give him the biggest hug in the universe.
"Please don't. My boyfriend, remember?" I directed her over to Jason. When she noticed him her eyes lit up as if a flame had just been ignited in her skull.
"Oh my gosh I can't believe I am meeting Marty and Ricky and Ryan and... Jason." She said Jason's name with a sigh.
"Hi, sugar, what's your name?" Jason asked as he stepped forward and kissed her hand. I guess that was his thing. But I wasn't about to spoil Soph's very special moment.
"S...So...So...S...Soph..." She couldn't quite get out the last part of her name.
"Her name is Sophie," Austin finished for her.
"But you can call me Soph. All my closest friends do." She gave him a wink. She was suddenly able to speak or, more accurately, flirt.
"Oh brother," Ricky rolled his eyes. Honestly I wanted to do the same. Soph was making a complete fool of herself. But she was my best friend, so what else could I do but support her and hope that it would all be over soon?
I went to her and put my hand around the back of her neck. "I'm going to take Soph to the kitchen so that she can breathe. I'll be right back." I explained as if I needed to inform them where I was going; it was my own house after all.
When Sophie came back to Earth she screamed and I'm pretty sure it shattered my eardrums. "I love your boyfriend."
"I do too, but it gets even better. They are going to perform their new song to us, live, sometime today and you are going to be there with me." I was acting as if it were nothing because I knew it would get her even more excited. I was correct.
"You are the best friend a girl could ever ask for. Now do you think you could date the main singers from my other favorite bands and score me some more awesome free stuff?" She asked, hopefully joking.
"I'm sorry, but I already got my man. Now go get yours. You seem pretty into Jason." I lightly bumped her with my shoulder.
"Yea," she got the dazed dreamy look back in her eyes.
"Okay, then go back out there and go get some." I winked then sent her out of the room. Austin then joined me back inside the kitchen. "My little girl is all grown up." I said to him, wiping a fake tear from my eye.
"All grown up and flirting up a storm with my lead guitarist. Are you sure you're okay with this?" He put his hand on my lower back.
"Yea, I mean it's all new to me, but yes." I looked up at him and immediately knew what he was thinking. Unfortunately he was too fast and managed to land a kiss before I could defend myself.
"It looked like you needed that to calm you down," he grabbed my hand, "Now are you ready to hear the best song ever?" I could tell that he was getting excited and ready to perform.
"Yes, but I think you're forgetting something." I waited for the confused look to come onto his face before I gave him a little peck on the cheek. "It looked like you needed that to calm you down," I playfully bit my lip and led him out to where the others were sitting. I couldn't wait to get my own personal concert!
