Chaptet thirteen
a/n: Damian isn't white, sure he's caucasian thanks to his dad but his skin isn't completely white. Talia, if I'm not wrong, is also Arabic among other things. I'm putting this here because I don't want to white-wash all of these characters.
[Months before, Danica's p.o.v]
She still remembered what it was like, holding her mother's lifeless cold hand while crouching on the ground in a puddle of the woman's blood. The severed head that lay feet away from her body, the blank expression and empty (e/c) eyes that bore no choice but to stare ahead on. The look of fear and sadness was the last look she gave her son before dying, and it was still there.
She remembered asking her brother how he was able to do this without moving a muscle in his facial features. How he was able to so easily kill to woman who birthed him, raised him, and loved him. She remembered his answer, while leaning against the ceremonial sword that he had jutted into the ground for support. Her blood was sliding down the side of it in drops, forming a small pool at the edge of the sword near the ground. The nonchalant look over his face and the blank stare his cold blue eyes that his father had passed down onto him.
The glare he sent Danica, it didn't feel right to see with those eyes.
She remembered her father's face, most of all. The expression he let show the moment his eyes met the lifeless body of his wife. His reaction, how he fell apart. When he's normally a hardass, someone who barely even cracks a smile. But watching him break down like that, spending more time with his work, coming home with bigger bruises and cuts.
Where Danica's father had grown a separation from her brother, in the space he avoided Jaison, that space was filled from Danica with hatred for the older sibling.
He was banned from the manor. Never to set foot inside the building or come onto the property again. But he stayed on the mountain where it happened, stayed with the league of shadows.
Her father wouldn't try to send him to Arkham Asylum, and she knew this. He's too broken right now to do anything when it comes to Jaison. Right now, Danica's father is just an empty shell trying to fill that void by pummeling criminals at night and trying to find them during the day.
Despite all that was going on, he still followed the rule. He never killed anyone while Jaison had changed. He wasn't the one to make the rule, but he followed it none the less. Jaison always had a hard time following the rule, but their father never gave up on him and still tried to show him how to do things the right way.
It never worked. He was power hungry, he had a complex and that was to be in charge. He wanted everything to go his way. Mentally, he told himself he was a good person. Getting rid of criminals, no matter how serious or not so serious they were. The only thing he did wrong though, was kill them. He had a way of taking after his uncle sometimes, but even his uncle got over that and did things differently.
Danica was starting to slip. She was following the rule, but she was punching harder, using sharper weapons, when they got to the hospital they'd wish they were dead, and not just because they're going to spend the rest of their life in prison. But because they were as good as dead.
She had tried to kill her brother. But it never worked, seeing as his title in the league of shadows Danica would have to get through several people just to get to him. Just to see Him.
She did kill. She killed whoever her brother threw at her to protect himself. His collection of highly dangerous bodyguards, basically. She kept this from her father, but after a while she couldn't handle knowing that she had taken the life from a person anymore. Instead she spoke to her grandfather about it. Who didn't take it well. She couldn't tell her father because she believes he would only start seeing her the same way he sees Jaison. So yes, she spoke to her grandfather.
He was an old man, an old cranky man. Bitter, living alone in a large manor. The only company he had was his dog. The black hair he had was gone, covered in white and grey. He always sat in a large red and black chair in front of the fireplace with his cane on the side of the chair. The dog at his feet, usually asleep. The wrinkles over his face gave him a permanent angry expression, like he'd be brooding for the rest of eternity basically.
He would tell her the rule was there for a reason, and that it cannot be broken without consequences. But Danica was already paying for the consequences.
Danica had a half Brother, Brendon. Who usually just went by a shortened nickname, Ben. He was about a year older than Danica, he was related to her on his mother's side. Not her father's. Ben didn't have his mother's hair, or his mother's eyes. Just had her basic facial features and a similar body, aside from the gender difference as close as you can get to having a similar body. But, He probably could have had his mother's eyes. If He weren't born with albinism. Instead, he had dark red eyes that gave off a pink tint. And hair so blonde it was almost white. He had a ...unique bone structure, to say the least.
He looked as if she could snap, easier than a toothpick. But as a child, he had been poisoned with a gas that's suppose to cause your bones to grow more dense, and without the correct amount of calcium in a short period of time, all bones in his body should have collapsed. But after he inhaled the gas, it put him into a coma. And while he was out he was being given massive amounts of calcium. Which kept his bone density practically unbreakable. Not even a kryptonian could break his bones, probably. Rather not find out the hard way though.
Danica would talk to Ben about this, he was the most understanding. But he didn't approve of Danica killing people. Even if they weren't good.
So he agreed to help her find a way to stop her brother. even if it seemed outrageously foolish and dangerous.
And it was. It was too dangerous, but she knew someone who had done it before.

[Your p.o.v, current time]
This was weird. Really weird, normally Damian tries to stay away from you. but today? You wouldn't say he was glued to your side, but always in the same room as you. The only time that he wasn't was when you left the room to the restroom or to get a drink of water, thankfully.
So today at lunch when he and Colin had taken a seat next to you and your friend Maria, you had enough of it and asked him about it.
"If I throw a stick will you go away?" You asked, okay well you didn't ask him why he was following you. But you really just told him to go screw off if anything.
"Oooh!" Colin hollered, giving his black haired friend a funny look. Damian returned the look by glaring at his redheaded friend, who just laughed in response to the glare he was given.
The four of you sat under a large tree in the courtyard, Maria was busy pulling the crust off of her peanut butter and jelly sandwich much like a kid would do so after getting it with crust when asking for it removed. you were munching on a bag of dried up strawberries, it was the only thing you grabbed before you could get to school. Collin had some sweets here and there, with some school lunch. And Damian, and his vegetarian self, ate what you would like to call sadness. Jokes aside, everyone had gotten their food out so nobody really wanted to move.
"He's just here 'cause he's got the hots for you, (y/n)" Colin said with a mouthful of school cafeteria pizza, somedays it was soaked in grease and somedays it was a gift from the heavens. And by how fast he was eating it you assumed you probably should have gotten school lunch today, damn.
Damian jerked his head in the direction of Colin, the glare was more sharp this time than it was last and Colin actually couldn't respond with anything witty this time.
Before Damian could intervene, start yelling, You spoke up. Leaning Backwards on your hands and raising an eyebrow at the boy.
"Sorry, I'm a spoken for girl. Basically." You replied, closing your eyes for a moment and smirking. Damian scoffed, copying your body language and opening his mouth to speak.
"So who is it this week, hmm?" He replies, knowing you have a new boyfriend or girlfriend pretty often. This comment made even Maria choke on her food. She knew you had issues with the people you dated, or just the people whose time you wasted. But she couldn't hold back the laugh from that burn.
"Still Alora, believe it or not. Damian, I have no clue how you messed that one up but I'm very glad you did." You replied, sitting up and crossing your arms. Just thinking about the long blonde hair that curled all the way down to her waist, the doll like blue eyes and naturally dark and long lashes. Her soft and quiet voice, really how did Damian manage to screw up? A small "Tt" sound coming from his lips again.
"Hey, you know the spring carnival that's going on tonight? Are you guys going?" Maria asked the three, you, Damian and Colin. She was friends with colin, even had a thing for him and you knew it. It was pretty cute, but she's such a shy person and stutters whenever they're alone. For your best friend, she's a hell of a lot different from you.
"Of course, I love carnivals. What's better than cotton candy and worrying about amusement park rides that are gonna break down at any given moment?" You asked, at this Damian had a response.
"Dental health, and your life?" He responded, raising an eyebrow but he didn't bother to ask why you chose that response.
"Well, I'm going." Maria added.
"You're gonna go on every ride with me this year or chicken out like last?" You asked her, nudging her in the side. She groaned, sighed and looked in the other direction when moving your arm out of the area of her ribs. Her short brown natural curls and bright green eyes. She had skin just a bit darker than Damian's.
As much as Damian looked like his father, you honestly wondered what his mother looked like. Because Bruce Wayne is pretty damn white, Damian isn't as white as his father, but there's somewhat of a light brown tint to his skin. Oh well, not important to you really. Just thoughts to pass the time.
"I'm thinking of going, but I'm not so sure dad'll let me go." Maria said, the attention of Colin and Damian and yourself on her. You really wanted her to go, the last six years the two of you had been going to it together.
"What, why not? Don't you go every year?" Colin asked, trying not to sound disappointed with the fact that Maria might not be going this year. Looking at the ground to avoid actually looking at anybody and eating the rest of his pizza.
"Didn't you hear? The Joker's back," she paused while talking, whispering as if it were a secret. "Those are the type of places he usually strikes, right?" Maria finished, biting her lower lip.
When it came to the topic of the Joker, you often listened in depth and carefully. An interesting person but utterly insane and terrible. Bad people can be just as interesting as the good ones. Not that you'd ever like to meet the green haired freak. You think he should be dead, tortured even. So your interest can't be confused for admiration.
"If people are scared the Joker is gonna show up, don't you think the police got it under control? (Y/n) isn't your brother on the force, so you know if they are or aren't taking precautions?" Colin asked, picking up his water bottle and drinking about half its contents.
"Yea-"
"Woah, so if Joker shows up so you think Batman and Robin would too?!" Maria said loudly, a surprised look on her face while she pounded a hand on the grass to get everyone's attention.
[Damian's p.o.v]
Damon couldn't help but notice the embarrassed flustering pink shade that crossed your cheeks when Robin was mentioned. He saw you bite the inside of your bottom lip a little bit while you looked at the ground, placing your hands between your crossed legs as the shade of pink got a little bit darker.
So his visit with you last night as Robin did leave quite the impact on how you saw the boy wonder. Not how he would expect, but it's better than being loathed by you.
He was torn apart from his thoughts when a comment Maria made was mentioned. The comment actually made Damian's eyes widen in shock and he dropped his fork that carried his food to the ground.
"Did you know there's another Robin running around Gotham? But this one's a girl and she's a lot more...violent." The words Maria said must have also snapped you out of your own thoughts. Damian figured you were thinking about Robin.
"What? H-"
"I'm pretty sure there's another Batman too. But it's really different and there's only like, two pictures of them and both of the pictures have the new Robin in them. I got them on my phone hold on." Maria said, cutting off Damian. He would be sure to tell his father about this, it surprised Damian that he didn't know about this.
Maria pulled out her phone and scrolled past some pictures of Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, The first Robin, Red Hood and a extremely blurry picture of Red Robin to find the two pictures of the new vigilantes in Gotham City.
Maria was kinda known for her admiration on heroes, mostly when it came to Wonder Woman because she's actually met her once.
The picture showed a tall girl with fairly long black hair with curls here and there. She wore a Robin suit very similar to the current Robin, but there was no green on the suit at all. She owned deep burgundy and red gauntlets that went right below her elbows. Black Kevlar skin tight armor over her body, the same deep purplish red Kevlar armor material over her chest as it was exactly like the current Robins red tunic that actually came from the second Robins suit. She wore a bright red utility belt that held all sorts of gadgets on it. With boots in the constant deep red and slight purple color that stopped right below her knees, heavy duty combat boots with black laces. She had a black domino mask on over her eyes with bright red opaque lenses over them. Whereas the current Robin had white lenses over. She wore a cape with a bright red exterior and a bleak interior, the hood was up over her head. Last but not least, the bright red and black R that let everyone know she was Robin.
You know how people always say Batman needs Robin so he can even out the darkness, with batman being the one in black and Robin being the one in color? Same thing goes for this Dynamic Duo in the picture. Just different roles.
Whereas Robin was the one clad in almost all black, Batman was clad in almost all white. The only color on the man's suit was the bright red Bat symbol over his chest and the same red opaqueness to the lenses over his white cowl. Red utility belt and for the most part,he was holding a red batarang. So it's assumed all his gadgets are painted red.
What stood out the most was how oddly weak he looked. There was muscle mass here and there, but for the most part...he looked malnourished?
The second picture was really blurry, they were grappling up the side of a building. It was so blurry that this version of Batman just looked like a white streak. In this light that the picture was taken, Damian's own detective skills picked up. He noticed the ends of the hair on the other Robin looked too shiny. Much like a wig. It still looked real enough to pass as her own hair, but it just felt weird.
"Where were these taken." Damian asks, but it comes out more of a demand. He noticed you had looked away from the picture and focused on eating, as you were trying to pretend you're not apart of the conversation taking place right now. Damian had a hunch.
"Crime alley, last night. They were stopping a car theft and the guy was nearly put into a coma thanks to all the head trauma he got from being thrown into a moving truck. Not dead though so I'm pretty sure they have a no kill rule. People aren't even calling this guy Batman, some guy on Reddit refers to him as the White Bat. It sounded cool so it stuck. The news is trying to cover it up, some social media sites take down any pictures of them. Obviously someone doesn't want them to be found out." Maria says.
Damian was about to say something, but the sound of the bell cut him off.
You didn't even throw your bag away before speeding off to your next class.
Bruce told Damian to stay with you as much as possible, that's how he can keep watch and protect you when he's not Robin.
But he was certain you were asleep when he left.
