Chapter ten
a/n: This is kinda a crappy chapter since i didn't have a draft for it down, so yeah sorry about that but her there's lots of cute fluff in here. Damian is gonna start having more interactions with the (reader) REALLY soon, so just wait okay ^-^
"Danica this isn't really the safest idea. We'd be better off taking the 34 to central city. Busses stop running at three in the morning, we still have time!" You yelled to the taller girl, who stood farther away from you. Decently far.
By yelling, you weren't signalling anger. You weren't doing this out of anger, raising your voice. No, you were yelling to be able to communicate with her. If anything, you'd gotten past the part of getting mad and just accepted the strange things she said, and did. As an example, this is one of the strange things Danica did that seemed so normal to the older girl.
"Just jump! It's not that far. If you cannot make it I'll grab your hand and pull you up." She responded, visibly leaning forward and cupping her hands around her mouth to make her voice boom out louder and reach your ears as it carried through the air. Making sure you heard exactly what it was she was saying.
You were still recovering from the memory of what had just happened a couple minutes ago. The moment the two of you had climbed up the side of the fire-escape ladder she made a run for it and jumped off the ledge of the building. At first it scared you, you even yelled out for her out of fear. But when she landed on her feet so perfectly and gracefully on the other side where another building had been there, the yell that came from your mouth turned into a sigh of relief that she was able to stick the landing. She made it look so effortless, like it was something that came natural to her. Her facial expression never changed a bit from what you saw, but you could have sworn she wore a small smile while in the air.
"Just back up pretty far. Run and then jump when your feet meet the ledge. Don't aim for my hand," She paused, leaning forward against the ledge and sitting down, extending her right hand.
"But if you misjudge your jump I'll make sure you're fine. Don't look at me, look at what's behind me." Danica finally said, scooting herself down and out of your point of view. Making sure that you could see clearly behind her instead.
"What if I look down?"
"Don't."
"But what if I-"
"It's dark out anyways, you wouldn't really see how high up we are."
"And that's suppose to make me feel better?!"
"Just jump!"
You yelled with your mouth shut, balling up your fists and shoving them to your sides, stomping a foot down and puffing out your cheeks like a child and wincing your eyes shut tightly. you've never done this before, and you had a good reason to be as scared as you were. You were even shaking, unable to take a step back and pace yourself so you could focus on where you were running. Or where you would be running.
You walked backwards a couple paces, inhaling slowly and exhaling just as simply. You closed your eyes and raised both arms above your head, allowing more airflow for you to really be able to feel in your body in a way to calm yourself down.
"Good. Keep doing that until you're ready." Danica mumbled to herself, knowing that she had just yelled at you to jump already but deep down, part of her wanted to see you fall. She shoved the feeling as back far down as possible, the feeling completely gone and unrecognizable as the urge went away. Maybe your constant complaining was starting to take a toll on her.
You exhaled slowly, for the last time. Stretching your right arm by pointing it upwards then reaching towards your back and pressing the tips of your fingers between your shoulder blades, repeating the same action to your left arm. This wasn't really anything useful, since you'd be running and not pushing yourself off of something with your arms. It's just something you did to de-stress yourself, that's all. And it worked.
Danica sat on the ground, if she could cross her arms she would, but out of your safety she kept her right hand extended off the side of the building ready to grab your hand at any moment. Her left hand near by to help pull you up the building if it came to that,.
Danica remembered the first time she had done this, she ended up screwing up pretty badly and falling in a dumpster in the alley between the two buildings. Then again she didn't have anyone to help her learn how to do this her first time.
She was caught out of her thought when she saw you running up to the ledge. Her hands ready to grab at your own if you failed.
You ran, gaining closer and closer to the edge with every step. you blocked Danica out of your vision and focused several feet behind her. Running faster as you approached the end of the building, when your feet met the ledge you jumped off and then some, pushing yourself off with more force than you thought you would have originally used. Your body leaned forwards in the air, straight below you was an alley. Not a busy street thankfully. But if you fell, the only thing to break your fall was hard, concrete. And that won't break your fall, it'll break you.
You opened your eyes, when you had jumped off the ledge you shut your eyes out of fear even though you knew that was a dumb idea. It was something you couldn't control, though. But when you opened your eyes, everything seemed to slow down. It was different, you could admit. A good kind of different.
It felt so much better than carrying an aluminum bat down the streets of gotham, it gave you more of a rush than that. And you got a pretty big rush out of ramming the bat into someone's back. Granted, you've only done that twice but they kinda deserved it. Not like you killed them or broke any bones, so you're basically innocent.
But this... It took your breath away.
The landing wasn't so great, though. She didn't tell you how to land. Danica should have told you this. Part of you wondered if she didn't tell you on purpose.
You let out a shrill scream as you came closer to the ground, Danica moved herself out of your way and slid to your left, standing up and crossing her arms as she watched you tumble to the ground, landing with your hands to the top of the building while you rolled over on your back. Laying in that position. you weren't really in pain, it's just the landing you needed to work on.
"Wow." Was the only thing you said, panting on the ground with your knees bent upwards, on your back and your arms sprawled out. You were panting pretty hard, chest rising and falling a pretty big amount.
If only you could have seen the large grin plastered over your face, Danica knew that you werent looking at her, instead you were looking at the stars. The night sky was dark enough for them to show evidently and out in the open, easy to see and point out which was what.
Danica sat down behind you, copied how you laid on the ground. The top of her head touched the top of your own head. And that's how the two of you were for a little while. Saying nothing to each other, the only sounds were your breathing that eventually slowed to a normal pace. Danica figured she would let you catch your breath before doing this again.
"So? How was it?" She asked, a smirk tugging at her lips as she nudged your arm with her hand.
"Still trying to breathe, hold on. This is really new to me." You said, the grin still sketched onto your features. Danica could basically feel the excitement and enthusiasm radiating off of you. It gave her a small smile.
"My mom liked the stars. She used to tell me about them a lot when I was little. See those three ones right there? The one star on all four sides of it?" Danica asked, pointing up above her face, visible in your own view.
"Oh, I see it. What is it?" You asked, pointing up to where you saw it, allowing her to know you were looking at the same thing.
"Orion The Hunter. Here there's two different stories behind the constellation," She started. And she went on and on, explaining more and more. It was great, you loved it. You loved learning new things. you kept spacing out every now and then, she even continued on and talked about more constellations. You learned that Danica really loved stars, due to her mother. The two of you probably laid there for about an hour, just talking about stars and different constellations and what they meant. your curious questions always getting her correct answers.
"Hey, what's your mom like?" You asked, prodding at her arm with your index finger. You could practically feel the smile that graced her face. When she let out a sigh, you could tell that she was happy. It was nice, seeing as she has two moods from what you know. Angry, and angry that needs to be taken seriously.
"She was really beautiful. I'm glad I got her eyes, honestly. She's really kind from what I remember, her and Father sometimes yelled at each other a lot because of how they both used to be. But i know they loved each other and even if they fought sometimes it didn't change that. From what my Uncle says, they fought a lot when they were younger too. So I guess when they fought it wasn't too big of a deal. but she was just so nice, and kind. she cared about everything even if it was a foolish thing to do." She finished, prodding at your arm with her index finger.
"Tell me about your uncle?"
"Ha, which one? I've got three." She laughed out in response, you grinned and laughed with her.
"This is nice. I don't get to open up like this very often. I don't get to talk about my mother very much either. Thanks." She mumbled, sitting up. you followed suit, wiping (h/c) hair out of your face.
"We should keep going if we don't wanna get caught." Danica adds, all of her happy and cheerful persona is suddenly gone. Her face went back to it's usual state.
You gave the girl a light smile, well at least you got the memory. A good one at that.

Nightwing watched as the two girls sat up from where they laid down. He had called over Batman and Red Robin the moment he found them, but what he was seeing when he first saw the two girls confused him in a way. From what he hears about you from Damian, knowing you run away a lot. He didn't really expect to see you jumping from one building to another.
"Wait for them to go to where they think they're alone, we'll take them back when they're asleep." nightwing said, powering down his escrima sticks and placing them in two pouches by his side.
Glad Damian's not here, he would have rushed in the moment he spotted her. Dick thought, as the three followed the two girls who made their way across the building, and so on.
