Chapter Sixteen

a/n: Sorry this chapter is a little rushed, I have a pretty big idea in mind and I just wanna get this part over with, honestly. Because i wanna write some angst okay ;-;

That's how it all started, anyways. First the poisonous dome that nobody could come within five feet of without getting sick went up. Whenever someone went to touch it or break it down, the veins in their body would go dark and visible, their skin would pale and their eyes would start to dull. If they didn't get away from the wayy after a second, they'd remain sick for a couple hours, likely. If they touched the wall, no matter how long you touched you, you would be sick for a long time. But if you touched the wall for more than thirty seconds? Nobody wanted to figure out what happens. And everything that's been thrown to the thick natural dome hasn't done anything.

The park's been under lock down for a full two hours, and about fifteen minutes past the first hour the entire group had been separated. The only person that you have with you is Alora and you've told her that you'll do her best to keep her safe for the most part. Thing's have been getting weird, too. You only know everything you do know about the Joker from social media, which explains why Poison Ivy is here if Harley Quinn is too. But, what you know about the others also comes from social media. The topic of DeathStroke is almost never on the news, but when it is it's got nothing to do with the Joker.

So why was a mercenary here taking charge of a carnival with a nutty clown?

A lot of people had been hiding, only about half an hour ago Batman showed up. Which begs the question, how'd he get in? There's been no real sighting of Robin that you knew of, but you heard some kid talking to his mom about Nightwing and the Red Hood.

It was dark, under the thick vine made up dome. There was fire that licked at the natural ceiling, but it did no damage. The fire must have been caused by one of the people who're the reason for all of this chaos. It was really getting to Alora, she kept shaking and every time someone would talk too loudly around the group of civilians you were in she'd jump out of fear and grab onto your arm.

A small building had been in lock down, the carnival was pretty damn big this year thanks to Wayne enterprises chipping in some money for the event. Probably assume the guy regrets this now because so much of Gotham's civilians were here. And since Bruce Wayne is always talking about making Gotham a better place again, this must really be a kick to the gut to the guys beliefs.

You knew just as much as anybody that gotham wasn't ever going to be the way it was again, and nobody can clearly remember a time when it was the best place in the first place.

The building had boarded up windows and doors, nobody could get in.

But that's just what the Joker wanted.

[Danica's p.o.v]

Danica had taken Ben somewhere off away, where not many people were. Suited up, and began searching for you. It was no secret that Danica and Ben were not from here, she knew Damian and Tim were slowly putting piece and piece together. Surely enough Ben's physical albinism appearance gave away that he was the White bat, and Danica feels no reason to hide from Damian that she's the Robin that's been all over the tabloids lately, even though at first Damian had assumed this new Robin was you, considering he was aware of your dramatic irony for everything.

No. This new Robin was not you. It was Danica, and she isn't even supposed to be here. So is the really Robin? I mean, the R on her chest says otherwise, and even Ben isn't Batman. Ben's only met Batman twice, really. Didn't really get along with him.

Grandfather, will I ever wear the cowl?

Danica tried to focus on anything but her memories, Bart told her the entire time while she was back here they would try and creep up on her. She clipped in the long hair extensions that helped conceal her identity, not that it mattered now since she truly was running out of time to fix things. She had come too late in the first place, and that took a large chunk of time off of her own watch.

Danica stared at her half brother through the opaque red lenses over her domino mask, waving off to the left as she went to the right. They separated, one off to find You, and the other off to find Tim and Damian.

Danica glided off of a vantage point, spreading her arms so her black and red cape would glide her down. In the opposite direction, Ben did the exact same.

There was gas starting to form, due to the plants. It was hard to see, but the tech behind the lenses of her mask cleared out the impurities in her sight so she could get a better look at where she was going. The tech in her suit was much more advanced than any Robin that's currently, and ever has been. The tech in her suit is only just a little bit more upgraded than Batman's himself. It would be more, but the person in charge of making her suit didn't see it important for a child to have such an advanced suit this early. As much as Danica hated it, when she did get the suit she was no more than thirteen years old. It's just never been upgraded since, so it was meant for a child. The only upgrades to the suit have been thanks to her height, where it was tailored every six months while she was growing to fit her better.

Danica, you can't ever wear the cowl.

Danica cringed, the memories flooding her head faster than Bart even mentioned they would. Maybe she should listen to the speedster next time he talks to her, or he just talks too damn fast.

Her heavy boots collided with the ground, her cape flowing from behind her. She had to find you, if you were to die it could not be like this.

She wasn't trying to stop you from dying. She was trying to control how you died.

"Another Robin? Damn." A rough voice sounded behind her, snapping her out of her train of thought. She turned around, hand on her utility belt ready to pull out a smoke pellet until she realized who had spotted her.

She stared at the red hood over his face, more of a helmet. The brown leather jacket over the black kevlar with the red, differently shaped, bat symbol on it. This, it's something she didn't plan for. All she wanted to do was find you, keep you safe, and maybe save a couple people along the way. That's all she wanted to do, but he's gotta show up and make it harder?

Will you push me on the swings?

Danica groaned loudly, stomping a foot down. Her memories are being triggered by the appearance of certain people. She stared at the Red Hood, who had a gun in both hands. He stood with his shoulders squared, above the two of them was a dark cloud of gas looming over the entire park.

"What, guns? You wouldn't shoot a teenager, right?" Danica asked, scoffing and putting a hand on her hip, it wasn't a smirk that crossed her lips, But it was something a little similar.

Sure, yeah okay. Just don't let go, kid.

"Who ever said I wouldn't? Just wont kill you." Red Hood aimed the gun at her knee, and he cocked it back. Threatening to pull the trigger.

[Red hood/ Jason's pov]

Jason breathes heavily behind the red hood over his face. Is she really Robin? Jason knows he spends almost no time at Wayne Manor. But he's pretty sure he'd know if Bruce picked up another street brat. The girl didn't even seem like a street brat, really. By the way she spoke it reminded him of Damian. Which was pretty damn weird, and that's putting it lightly.

He wasn't going to shoot her. He was bluffing, because he knows that if he did shoot her every bit of trust he's worked to gain back in the family would be gone if she really did happen to be another kid Bruce adopted, this time without many people knowing. But that wasn't the case, and since Jason didn't know that? It was her benefit. Not to mention, if he does have to shoot her for any reason? Rubber bullets, thank Dick for that.

"Halloweens long past, which Robin are you suppose to be anyways?" He asked, glaring at the smaller girl beneath the red hood of his. Every time he saw a new Robin, apart of him burned inside. It was only for a brief moment though, anyways.

"The best." She reached into her utility belt and pulled out a maroon pellet. She threw it onto the ground and a maroon and grey colored thick smoke filled the air. Okay, Jason thought. More than a costume, He finished.

But he had a tactical setting under his red hood, the smoke would do nothing to him. He pressed his hand up to the side of his helmet, turning on the detective mode in the tactical setting. It only worked briefly, the girls skeleton moving around in the gas was all he could see for a split second before his hood started bugging out, glitching before his eyes. The gas was corrupting the mechanics of his hood, and before he knew it? 'Robin' was gone.

[Years ago, with Danica and her grandfather.]

Danica was surrounded by nothing but the light for the first seven years of her life. Unable to read, unable to see. She had never seen her mother's face. Never seen her father's face, or her brothers. She spent a lot of time with her grandfather. Not that her father sent her away often, she just felt more comfortable and free at the old mans house.

He had odd wrinkles under his left eye, whenever Danica visited she would greet her grandfather by running her hands over his face so she could 'see' and make sure she truly was with her grandfather.

Danica was blind, for the first seven years of her life. She never really acted much her age, always years ahead. It's why she enjoyed spending time with her grandfather.

He had a swing set built in a section of the yard in front of the manor for her. He wouldn't push her on the swings, she'd usually have her own father or mother, or an uncle so that for her.

She didn't really act her age, but she loves the wind through her long black hair when she can't see where she's going.

Her eyes where almost completely white. The faint (e/c) showing through the bottom. Like a colorful stone beneath solid, foggy ice.

"When will father come to get me?" Danica asked the old man. She wanted to go on the swings. Knowing her grandfather would be unable to push her.

"Soon." The old man responded, the soft sound of pages being turned allowed the blind child to know he was reading. The crackling of the fire behind her made her skin warm, the dark tints of her skin in various places becoming warmer.

She ran her fingers over solid material, sliding her index finger along what felt like a pointed nose.

"Is the puppy here?"

"Danica he's not a puppy"

"Yes he is. Just a big puppy."

Danica's grandfather stared at the girl, the wrinkles over his old pale face cringed together. Danica was truly his sons daughter if her main concern is seeing the dog before she leaves.

The aging man stared at the young girl as she held the black, bat shaped cowl in her hands. Wide eyes that stared at nothing but aimed towards him.

He watched as she gripped an ear, bending it backwards until the weak and brital metal snapped in her hands.

"Oops."

This was the last day she ever spent without her eyesight, the piece of the cowl remained with her through the traumatic experience that lead to her getting her sight back.

[Danicas p.o.v, currently]

She found you. Everything was officially starting now, this is where the choices you make start to matter.

This is how thousands of people get to live.

Through your death.
