chapter eight teen
They were too late. Damian and Danica got there he moment you crashed the large stone onto Aloras head, they got there right in time to listen to the loud cracking of her skull, the squishing of her brain. The sound of the blood running down her skull, her face hidden by the small boulder. The look on your face, though. that sadistic grin, those wide eyes, the way your left eye twitched. And you only barely got a wiff of Joker Gas.
Damian felt his stomach churn at the sight, normally it wouldn't have bothered him. But ti was you, and it was Alora. She was his friend, and he was unsure of his feelings towards you. He felt his heart pounding forcefully against his ribs, eyes widening as he watched your head slowly turn in his and Danica's direction, both of your eyes scanning over the matching R's on yours and his chest.
Danica's face remained still, patient, calm. She kept a stern look, her eyes narrowed, no wrinkles that showed she was angry. Nothing of that sort. Her lips weren't turned into a scowl, her nose wasn't crinkled in disgust. She started to slowly make her way over to you, watching as the contaminated air in your lungs slowly lost it's effect, Damian followed behind.
The fire in the distance made it only a little hard to breathe, smoke in the air, the crackling in the distance was loud for the three of you to hear. Your arms went limp to your side, and Danica heard what sounded like a bone or two readjusting as you moved.
Your pupils dialated back to their normal size, instead of the tiny narrow bits of black that looked like the pin point of a needle, they resized to the size of a small coin. Your eyebrows raised in shock, your bottom lip quivered.
Damian made his way over to you quickly, taking off his cape and letting the latch over his shoulders buckle back into place as he held the material in his hands, watching your movements.
You reached out for Alora's body, eyes widening in fear as your fingers just barely grasped at her before Damian grabbed your hand and held it tightly in his own, staring at you through the white lenses of his green domino. He quickly wrapped his slightly long cape around you before all of your tears broke loose and you started to cry. Danica watched in silence.
[Your p.o.v]
You cried, much like before. Like the last time you and Robin were like this. But instead of you throwing yourself over onto him, he grabbed you and held you close to him, wrapping the cape tighter around your body as he held your head to his chest and let your tears soak into his kevlar vest. Your cries and groans sending those same vibrations through his body, you were remembering every feeling. How it felt to have the rain pelt your head, the warmness that the cape brought onto your body. Feeling the body warmth that came from the boy who wore it before, this time not from the ten year old, but the teenager that held you in his arms right now. The unknown boy you knew you'd never know the identidy of.
It was different this time, he rested his chin on top of your head and his grip on you was tighter, he actually had motion to you this time other than just remaining still while you gripped his body. You shook in his grasp, unable to see over his shoulder as you cried into his chest. But you knew the second girl, the other Robin, was looking at you in silence. Was judging, was mentally noting against this.
"I-I I killed her." You said, you felt his chin moving on the top of your head, he was shaking his own. As if to tell you that you were wrong.
"No, you didn't kill her. You weren't in control of your actions. This is not your fault." Robin reassured you, you felt him moving above you, taking your head and moving it in front of his, holding your chin with his index finger and middle to direct his gaze directly to his own. Locking eye to eye. Though you didn't see his eyes behind the white lenses, but it made you feel...different? Like a bond that reassured you, and he was using it to his advantage.
You yanked your head away and stared at her corpse, the only feeling you felt was guilt. Using her to get to Damian, and you didn't even understand why you did such a thing. such a terrible thing, the thought scratched at your skull, made it feel as though you were bleeding. The burning pain in your head.
"Am I a terrible person?" You mumbled, still looking at her. Unable to see her face, and you weren't sure if you wanted to or not. How deformed it would be, how grotesque. Thoughts of what you'd say to her, thoughts of what you'd do to her, how many times you've stood her up, how many times you've said something truly awful to her. It should have been you, it should be you on the ground right now with a boulder smashed into your head.
"No." Robin responded, his voice was stern, and no matter how much he tried to cover up that tone of arrogance to his voice, it never seemed to cease. Even if he wasn't trying to do it on purpose.
The other Robin, the girl, coughed behind the two, gathering Robin's attention and yours as well. She jutted out a hip and placed her hands on them, seeming to glare beneath her black domino mask beneath dark red lenses.
"Reunion over. So what? You killed her. End of story, it's not your fault, it's Jokers. Your hand may have done it but it was truly the joker who killed her. Not that you were very kind to her to begin with, so you shouldn't be too torn up about it." She said, gesturing her hands and crossing her arms while slightly looking up at the burning sky, or roof to the thick vine dome.
Your grind your teeth in anger, and Robins grip on you loosened as if he was going to allow you to do what your next movements called for. You quickly threw yourself out of his grasp, he wasn't exactly expecting you to go through with it, but when you did it he regretted letting you go so quickly.
You pushed yourself off of the ground to gain speed as you reeled a fist back, aiming it for the left side of her face. Once you were close enough you threw your punch, but she caught your fist and crushed your hand slightly as she caught the punch.
"Weak." She mumbled, grabbing your elbow and pinning an arm behind you, letting go of your hand and pushing you against the building with your back pressed tightly and closely to her chest. This wouldn't be the first time you're held so close to a Robin, this time it's more painful due to the broken bone that you have at the moment.
"And you've been trained by a police officer, taken gymnastics, and a very important person from the league of shadows has taken a liking to you? Pathetic." She crushed your arm tighter against your back, feeling your shoulder burn in pain. you let out a sharp hiss and a muffled yell as she pressed further, The other Robin, the one you're more fond of at the moment, stood up from his spot and yanked her off of you.
"Leave her the hell alone," Robin yelled, he pulled you behind him and held your wrist with too much force than he really needed to, causing you to cringe from the forming bruise. You're pretty sure that he didn't even mean to do this right now.
"Danica." He finished, you could tell he was smirking as the words left his mouth, but you couldn't see it.
The girl scoffed, crossing her left arm and yanking off her Domino and hair extention with her right hand and throwing them to the ground. She placed her right arm next to her left, and gave the boy before her a hard, cold glare. you couldn't believe this. Danica Gray was the second Robin? Your lips parted in shock as a gasp escaped your lips. Eyes widening as you locked eyes with her.
"Saying names, now? I know who you are. Would you truly wish to test me?" She spat, stomping towards him and making a grab at his green domino mask.
You saw this and shoved Robin to the left, using all your weight to do so. You dropped his cape and fell to the right, and crawled a bit more so you could find a place to stand. Shoving your hands in the dirt and getting wood stuck under your nails, you pushed yourself up and watched as Danica had Robin pinned down as she kept constantly trying to grab ats his Domino mask.
She was weaker than him, though. And it was proven pointless to her actions. She she resorted to words.
"I'll show her who you are, Dam-"
She was cut off by a fist flying across her face, she stumbled backwards, Robin sent a kick to her stomach which knocked her backwards. Hitting her head against the boulder that had killed Alora, you watched as her eyes slowly shut.
Robin was breathing heavily, his shoulders moved as he took in oxygen and exhaled it. He turned his head towards you, the blood running down from under the bottom part of his domino mask to the left. She had scratched him pretty damn good.
You made your way over to him with his cape in your hand, putting your hands on his chest and latching it back into it's place. You had worried eyes scanned over his body, the countless scratches and openings and rips in the suit indicated he'd been fighting god knows who for a long time before he even encountered Danica.
"You're hurt." You mumbled, raising your hand to his face and wiping the blood off from under his eye, or the eye mask. But the long scratch that oozed blood started at the first visible spot under his eye, and went all the way to the end of his cheek. It was about two inches long, and there was some dirt in the scratch.
"I a aware. It's nothing." He stated, moving his head away to look at anything but you, but you grabbed him by the left side of his face softly and gently turned his gaze back to you. There was a visible lump in his throat, and he tried not to look you in the eyes, and thankfully he knew you couldn't tell if he was or was not. But you could feel that he was, only slightly. Though it wasn't apparent.
"Shut up, please?" You mumbled quietly to him, anybody else would have been unable to hear it if they weren't standing so close. Your voice loomed deeply to him, quiet but it gave off something different as you dusted dirt off of his face and wiped the rest of his blood away from him. Letting your free hand rest on his chest.
"I didn't wanna keep your cape again, I still owe you your last one." You tried to lighten the mood, and failed horribly as you glanced back at Alora and Danica, Alora was dead. Danica however was just knocked out, possibly had a concussion. Sleeping with a concussion is a bad idea. A very bad one.
"Forget it, that's pointless (y/n)." Robin ripped himself away from you, out of your grasp. Your hand extended to reach his but by the time your index finger barely grasped his hand, he was already towards Danica and was picking her limp body up to bring up over his shoulder.
"Alora's body will be gathered by paramedics." Robins voice was stern by force, and you could tell. He readjusted Danicas body over his shoulder to get a better hold on the sleeping girl.
"I want you to stay with me until this is over."
When you heard her say Dam, you assumed she was going to say Damn. Robin took this to his advantage, while you were left in the dark about it.
