Chapter 25

A/N: Please check out my new story [365 Days]. Pretty please? All my energy is focussed there and I'd love for you all to read it. Also, this chapter was kinda hard to write which is why I have been procrastinating so yes it's pretty crap but after this it should be smooth sailing. Enjoy, or at least try to x

***

I had woken up and Rylie wasn't there. I was drunk last night but I wasn't that drunk. I knew she was here and that I kissed her and that she fell asleep right next to me. So where the fuck was she now?

I hurried downstairs and ran into Hayley who told me she had gone home. She didn't tell me why and Hazel didn't know, so I was stuck. I tried calling her but she wasn't answering. She was ignoring me.

I didn't know what to do, so I had a shower and gave myself some time to calm down and to think. My brain was in overdrive with so many questions I couldn't keep up. I did manage to figure out one thing; I would go to Nate and Isaac's to seek help.

I chucked on jeans and a t-shirt before getting in my car. I could have walked but I needed help, fast. When I pulled into Nate's driveway it was 12:30pm and Nate's car was in the driveway. I knocked on the door and was greeted by the man himself.

"Shit man, what happened?" He asked, clearly suffering from a hangover. I matched him there but I was too busy worrying to pay much attention to my pounding headache.

"Okay. Well. Last night everyone was drunk but I was the least drunk and was acting drunk and I got Rylie to stay at my house and then I kissed her and then we fell asleep and then I woke up this morning and she's not there and she's not answering my calls. I don't know what to do."

"Woah man, calm down," he said, leading me to the lounge room. The blinds were closed and the TV was the only light in the room. "Have you texted her?"

I shook my head.

"Okay. Well you should do that. Just be calm and ask what happened to her this morning."

"But I don't want her to know that I like her," I said, frowning.

"And how would she know that?"

"Because I kissed her. And she probably thought I was too drunk to remember so she's probably thinking that I don't remember kissing her. Wait a second, I could pretend I don't remember anything!"

Before Nate could say anything my fingers flew across the keyboard to my phone and I sent a few texts.

What happened last night?

Where did you go this morning?

Are you okay?

Did I do something wrong?

"I don't think that's a good idea, Max," he said, even though he saw me text her.

"Why not?" I asked. "This way she won't know that I knew what I was doing and everything will be solved."

"Do you think that's why she left early?"

I shrugged. I didn't know why she left early, that was the whole problem.

"Here," Nate said, handing me an x-box controller. "You need to kill stuff."

So we did. We killed and killed and killed until there was a knock on the lounge room door.

"Nate?" A girl's voice asked, before the door pushed open revealing a very hungover Leah.

"Hey," Nate said, his voice a bit softer. I would have called him on being a pussy but based on my actions for the last hour and his lack of words I decided not to. I was grateful he didn't pay me out so I wasn't about to do the same to him.

"You," Leah said, pointing at me. "What the hell were you thinking? You kissed Rylie? What the Hell, man?"

"I dunno," I say, putting the controller on the coffee table. "Wait, how do you know?"

"I just spent the last hour or so with her helping her figure out what the hell is going on in your brain without telling her what's going on in your brain."

"What...?"

"Ugh never mind," she sighs, sitting on the couch. "Just talk to her."

"She's not talking to me," I said, frowning.

"You can thank me later," was all Leah said, before rolling her eyes at my hopefuly expression.

"Okay, well. Hmm. I'm going to head off," I said, before realising something completely obvious; Nate was about to ask Leah out. "Oh, and good luck Nate."

"I hate you, Max!" He called back as I walked out of the house.

By the time I got home I was emotionally beat and all I wanted to was see if Rylie still hated me. I had a text from her but I didn't get to read it because there was an incoming call. Rylie.

"Rylie? Are you okay? Where were you?" I gushed into the phone, lying back on my bed.

She laughed but was completely forced. I frowned. "I'm fine, Max. I just spent the afternoon with Leah."

Well, I knew that was true.

"Oh that's good," I said, sighing before nervously asking, "W-what exactly happened last night?"

She sighed and I could picture her shaking her head. "What do you remember?" Was it wrong to think she sounded hopeful?

"Well," I said, making a point of clearing my throat. I didn't want to lie to her but it was much better than the alternative. "I remember dancing with you, then I asked you to stay at my house last night. That's about it."

"That's pretty much all that happened. We danced, I drove everyone home, you wouldn't get off the gutter to go home and said you'd only leave if I stayed at your house, so I did."

"Hmm," I said. I couldn't figure out why she wasn't saying that I kissed her. I frowned in confusion. "Okay."

"You sound worried," she noted. Shit.

Uh. "A little," I allowed, but made up a bullshit excuse. "It's very worrying not knowing what you did when you were in a room at night, completely drunk with a beautiful girl."

I continued. "Anyway. You know how I said we need to have the real day? Without masks and stuff?" I asked, changing the topic. I didn't like lying to Rylie.

"Yeah," she said, sounding sleepy.

"Could we move it up to Wednesday? It turns out Hayley can't go see our cousins so I can go instead," I explained.

"Hmm? Yeah, no problem," she mumbled. She was definitely sleepy. In fact, she sounded already like she was drifting off.

"You sound tired," I told her softly. "Get some sleep."

She didn't respond but she didn't hang up either. I could hear her steady breathing on the other side of the phone, smiling at the fact that she was finally getting some sleep. She needed it, especially after this weekend.

I decided to have a nap, so I hopped under my duvet and fell asleep, not even getting to closing my blinds.
