Part 13

(Im sorry for the insanely long wait, here is your lovely chapter💕)

Edgar's pov:

We continued walking past shops until we reached the cinema. We were purposely looking for Fang to stand in his line, just to greet him....and maybe to annoy him a bit too. His line was full of teenage girls, whispering and pointing at him, giggling while doing so.

-Do you know these girls? It looks like they know Fang. -Chester asked me.
-Uhm first of all, I don't know everyone that Fang does okay? But I don't think so, they just look like random girls who spotted an above average looking guy. -I explained.
-Ah i see. To be fair, Fang is kinda handsome. -Chester chuckled.
-What?? I'm so much more handsome than him! -I said in disbelief, tho his words made me a little jealous.
-Who said you aren't~? And you're way cuter too. -He smugly whispered into my ear, making me blush in embarrassment, which i tried to cover with my scarf.
-What? What did he say Ed? What did you tell him?? -Bibi was shaking my shoulders, eager to fill in her curiosity.
-Oh nothing special, don't you worry about it. -Chester shrugged, looking to the side with a big grin.
-WHY AM I THIRD WHEELING?!?!? -She whined loudly but we shushed her, not wanting everyone to stare at us.

Slowly the line moved forward, letting us get closer and closer to our beloved friend. Once the last group in front of us left for their movie, we stepped up to the counter.

-Hey welcome to the cinema, what can I get for you? -Fang turned around, a frown forming on his face as he saw it was us. -Wow the wind blew all the trash together. Anyways what do you want?
-Is this how you treat customers? -I chuckled.
-Only if they deserve it. -he smiled, forming a little heart with his fingers. -Spit out what you want, I don't have all day.
-Could we have 3 medium popcorns and 3 tickets? -Bibi said, stepping closer to counter.
-3 tickets to what? -He frowned.
-MAYBE THE MOVIE WE TALKED ABOUT WHILE GETTING HERE? You seriously have the memory of a goldfish dude. -I said, rubbing my temples.
-Shut up, I've served too many people to even remember that we came here together. I'll get your popcorns ready, here are your tickets. -he handed them over and went to scoop some popcorn into the boxes.
-Did those girls make you crazy? Did any of them succeed in landing your number? -I teased
-Oh my god you don't even know. I haven't even been here that long but today everyone just seems to be obsessed with me. Me and Buster even started counting them, there's been 16 girls and 3 guys who asked for my number today. -He said, looking absolutely exhausted.
-What the fuck dude, you definitely don't look that good. -I raised an eyebrow.
-Can I be the 20th customer who asks for your number~? -Chester wiggled his eyebrows with a cheeky grin, teasing Fang.
-What can I say? Suffering from success. Also you already have my number. -Fang chuckled, handing us our popcorns. -Pay up.
-Do we really not get free popcorns? -I asked with a fake sad expression.
-No.
-Pretty please? -Chester and Bibi chimed in, all of us making puppy eyes.
-Here have this bag of m&ms but pay for the popcorn and tickets! If Maisie hears of this, I might get a slap from her prosthetic arm, and you can guess why I don't want that. So shut up and scram!

We paid for our stuff and headed to the room where our movie was gonna be played in. As we sat down, we still had some time before the ads started, so we began to chat. Soon the lights turned off, making us turn our gazes towards the big screen. After the ads, the movie began playing, telling us a long backstory.

-Dude is this horror? -Chester whispered to me, seemingly surprised.
-Uh, yea?? I'm pretty sure we told you. -I said with my eyebrows raised.
-Fuckkk... -He sighed, slumping down in his seat.
-What, are you scared Chester? -Bibi teased, grinning.
-Even tho I'm a prankster and my main thing is scaring people, I myself also get scared easily. If there's a jumpscare I will scream so loudly. -he explained, squeezing his face with his hands.

Me and Bibi just giggled, awaiting that mentioned scream of his, it was gonna be so funny. After a few minutes, nothing was really happening in the movie, but I suddenly got thirsty so I decided to grab some water out of my bag. As i raised the bottle to my mouth, I could already tell that there would be a jumpscare. I took a few sips, and the jumpscare came as predicted, which wouldn't have scared me if it weren't for Chester's high pitched scream. It took me so off guard that I squeezed the plastic bottle, accidentally splashing water all over myself.

-Oh my god Ed, are you okay? -Bibi asked as I began coughing.
-Yea I am. Fuck, I'm literally drenched. -I looked down, seeing my shirt and lap dripping with water.
-I thought I was the scaredy cat for screaming, but your reaction makes me want to think it over. -Chester chuckled, clearly unaware why I had the reaction in the first place.
-Oh the movie isn't scary at all, your scream was the thing that scared me.
-Oh ..really? I'm sorry..
-It's fine, just.. ugh. I can't stay here like this, I should go home. -I said, getting up from my seat.
-What?! But the movie's just started tho! -Bibi whined.
-Yea! We could just buy you some dry clothes from some store! -Chester suggested.
-But while I go buy those, I'll miss out on so much that it's not even worth coming back. Might aswell just go home, I'm gonna go call my mom. You guys can watch it without me.

I got up as I collected my stuff, quietly leaving the room and I went into the closest bathroom. I locked myself into a stall, calling my mom and explaining the situation to her, to which she replied saying she will be here soon. After putting the phone down, I heard the door of the bathroom open.

-Hey Ed? Are you in here? -I heard the familiar voice of Chester.
-Yea, but why are you here? -I asked, coming out of the stall to face him.
-I just feel bad, cause this is all my fault. -he said sadly, looking down at his shoes.
-Gosh Chester, don't even start, it's fine, I don't really care if I get a little wet.
-But now you can't watch the movie..
-Honestly, it seemed kinda boring. But seriously, it's fine dude, you can go back.
-Uh actually, I don't think I want to.. it's pretty scary. -he scratched the back of his neck awkwardly, which made me chuckle.
-What about Bibi? -I questioned.
-Oh she said she's gonna watch it anyway.
-Can't blame her. Also, do you want us to drop you off?
-I'd love that actually, thank you.
-Anytime. -I said with a faint smile.

After some time, my mom called and we made our way outside the building, hopping into the car.

-Hey honey, and hi Chester! Is he coming over or..? -my mom asked, surprised by my friend.
-I was thinking we could drop him off on the way. But I mean, you can come over if you want to. -I averted my gaze to Chester.
-Oh uhm, I don't want to be a bother..
-Aw Chester sweetie you're not a bother! Why don't you come over for dinner? Eddie could use some company, he's always in his room. -my mom said cheerfully.
-Mom! -I yelled, embarrassed.
-Well, I would be more than happy to. -Chester smiled shyly, fidgeting with his hands in his lap, as my mom began driving.

Chester's pov:

-Thank you for the dinner, it was delicious! -I said, finishing up my plate.
-Well I'm glad to hear that! And once you're finished, you can go up to Eddie's room to play something. -Edgar's mom smiled.

We put our plates away, and went up to his room as usual. We played games on our phone until we ended up raging so bad, that we had to take a break. Edgar was scrolling on tiktok when he perked up suddenly.

-Wait, what day is it? -he asked.
-Friday, why? -i asked back, curious.
-Oh my god, there's this meteor shower thing happening tonight! I almost forgot! -he said, ecstatic.

He got up from his bed, and went to grab his chair, pulling it into the other corner of the room. I watched in confusion as he stood on the chair and opened up a hatch on the ceiling, carefully lowering it to reveal a ladder to the attic. He put the chair back, then gestured to me to follow him. We climbed up the ladder, and Edgar opened a window that lead to the roof. We climbed out, carefully crawling higher on the roof. It was dark out and hard to see anything as we sat down.

-This is where I usually go if I want to calm down. -Edgar said, looking up at the sky. It was a bit cloudy but we could still see some stars.
-Yea seems like a pretty chill place. -I said, getting lost in the nighttime view.

The houses and streets were dark, the streetlights and glowing windows illuminating them. I could even see the hill next to the town, there's a park on top of it, right in front of the forest. I looked up at the sky, the clouds slowly swimming to the left as the stars slowly appeared from behind them. We waited a few minutes, and soon we saw the first shooting star of the meteor shower. Edgar's eyes sparkled as he stared at the sky mesmerized, watching as the meteors fell, drawing a line after them.

-I love the stars. -He said out of the blue.
-I mean, I can get why. They're really pretty. -I smiled, scooting a little closer to Edgar
-My dad used to take me stargazing all the time. I even had one of those shitty play telescopes as a kid, that you could barely see anything in. -he chuckled.
-I haven't met your dad actually, but he sounds fun.
-He died. -he blurted out, shifting his gaze down to his feet.
-Oh.. I'm so sorry. -It was awkward, but I also felt terrible for Edgar.
-It's alright, it's been a few years now. Sorry for dropping it like that haha. -he laughed but it was bittersweet.
-...
-Remember when you asked about my scarf?
-Yea, what about it?
-I got it from my dad before he got sick. That's why it means a lot to me. -he just stared at the stars with a sad expression on his face, yet he was still smiling.
-I'm so sorry Ed.. -I whispered, pulling him into a hug.

As I hugged him, he wrapped his arms around me too, squeezing me as he let out a quiet sob over my shoulder. I patted his back as he cried silently, his sniffing making me tear up aswell.
-I miss him so much. -He said with a weak voice between sobs.
I pulled him closer, rubbing his back to comfort him as he cried.

After some time he calmed down and pulled away from me, rubbing his eyes that were red and puffy now.
-I'm sorry you had to see me like that. -he sniffed, clearly embarrassed to show his vulnerable side.
-Don't apologize for this. I'm glad I was here for you. -I smiled at him.
-Thank you Chester. -he smiled back.

We sat there in silence for a while, sitting side by side, looking at the sky.
-I think we should go back, it's getting cold. -Edgar said quietly, and we shortly climbed back into the attic through the same window. As we got down to his room, he closed up the hatch and we both sat on his bed. I was still in a bit of a shock, I didn't expect Edgar to open up like that. I'm not the person that people get emotional with, I don't even know how to calm someone down properly. The only person that cried in front of me is Mandy, but it's different with her because she's my sister. I love Edgar so much and it hurts me to see him like this.

Suddenly I turned towards him and wrapped my hands around him. He was surprised, but hugged me back.
-I'm here for you if you ever need to talk to someone. -I squeezed him a bit.
-Thank you Chester, it means a lot.

We hugged for a few moments, then started chatting about random stuff again.
-If that cheers you up, I actually have a surprise for you tomorrow. -I chuckled.
-Oh yea you told me about it. Will you finally tell me what it is?
-Not yet! But I wanted to tell you that we should meet at the bus stop next to school at around 4pm tomorrow.
-Oh~? Sure then, do I need to bring anything? -he smiled smugly.
-Only yourself. -I chuckled.
-Very well then, I'll be excitedly awaiting your surprise.

We chatted for a while until it was time for me to go home. Edgar's mom offered me a ride but I kindly refused and ended up going home by bus. Mandy was already preparing for bed, so I showered and went to sleep too. My head was full of thoughts, half of them thinking of Edgar's cries earlier, half of them looking forward to tomorrow. I was sad and happy at the same time. Love can be so weird. With that thought I slowly drifted off to sleep.
