Chapter 3

I woke up feeling as though I were being carried. I opened my eyes and noticed that I was over someone's shoulder. I looked to the side, surprised to see Zuko.

"Um... Why are you carrying me?" Was the first thing I said. He looked angry. "You're awake." He stated bitterly. I should probably let him know right about now that I'm not his crazed sister.

"Look, about last night... I'm not really Azula." He let out a rueful laugh. "You've told plenty of lies before, Azula, but that one is impossible to believe."

I frowned. "But I'm not! And I can prove it!" I started a small orange flame in my hand. "I don't have blue bending like her." He looked at it, surprised. "I'm not even as good as you! Did you not notice that it was crazy easy to beat me?"

He looked to the side, as if he were remembering. "I suppose."

"Here. Put me down, I can walk. It'll lessen your burden." He hesitantly placed me down. I lifted the Avatar, so that one arm was wrapped around my neck and the other around his. "I believe that's better. You good?"

He stiffly nodded and continued to walk. He took one more step and a cracking sound was heard. We both sprinted as fast as we could, and surprisingly I was able to keep a steady pace with him, until we came across.

He looked ahead and noticed the cave. "Shelter. Let's go."

We pulled Aang the rest of the way to the cave. He got out some rope and tied the boy's arms and legs together.

He sat down on one side, disappointed. I sat across from him with Aang. He breathed fire into his hands to warm himself. "How did you do that? Can you teach me?"

He looked at me, unsure. "...No, It's something Uncle would have to teach you. Not me." I nodded understanding.

"I take it, you don't trust me. I mean I understand, with me looking like your crazed sister and all, but I promise I'm nothing like her." He smirked when I said 'crazed', but beyond that he looked confused.

"If your not Azula, then how do you know me enough to call me 'Zuzu'?" He visibly shuddered. I wasn't sure if it was the cold or the pure distaste for the nickname. Probably both.

"Yeah. Sorry about that. When I do acting, I work on instinct and I tend to play the intended role better. As for knowing to call you 'Zuzu' in order to irritate you, that's a story I doubt you'll believe." His intense glare was on me, a glare that I don't think will go away anytime soon. I'm just glad that I caught him at the end of season 1, and not the beginning, so I don't have to deal with the temper as much.

He rolled his eyes. "Whatever." He glanced outside into the blizzard and back down to the Avatar. "I finally have him, but I can't get him home, because of this blizzard. There's always something.

"Not that he would understand, he's like my sister. Everything always came easy to her. She's a firebending prodigy and everyone adores her. My father said that she was born lucky, he said I was lucky to be born." The mentioning of him angered me. He's ruthless and doesn't care about anyone except him and is prodigious daughter.

"I don't need luck, though. I don't want it. I've always had to struggle and fight, and that's made me strong. It's made me who I am." I smiled and placed a comforting hand on his shoulder.

"Your right. I agree with you. I've had to struggle, as well. Though, not nearly as much as you. It does make you stronger, as long as you let it."

He looked at me suspiciously. "Who are you? What makes you think you know anything about me?! What makes you think I want your pity?" He glared.

"I'll tell you when we get back to your uncle." Actually, I'm going to use him as protection. He's wise and awesome, he'll at least try to understand me. Although, knowing him, he'll know about other worlds, like the monks.

Aang suddenly inhaled deeply in his sleep, and I sighed. "Looks like we're going to be here a while." Zuko sighed as well.

Hours later Aang awoke with a start. "Welcome back!" I greeted cheerfully.

He looked at me, hurt visible in his eyes. "Good to be back." He blasted air at Zuko and ran past, landing on his face in the snow outside, and began to worm away, still tied up. I couldn't stop myself from laughing at the way he looked.

Zuko pulled him up by the collar. "That won't be enough to escape." He growled. Right as he said that Appa flew by. "Appa!" Aang and I exclaimed with glee.

Appa landed and Katara immediately jumped out. "Here for a rematch?" Zuko taunted.

"Trust me, it won't be much of a match." He blasted fire at her, and she easily blocked the attack. I face palmed.

"You idiot! You don't start a fight with a master water bender on a full moon!" Right, as I finished my exclamation, he was raised above the ground with a pillar of ice, and then she let him fall back down. I laughed. "Like I said. Idiot."

He was knocked unconscious from the blow and they turned to me, betrayal and anger in their eyes. "You went with him! You made us trust you, and you went with him! I knew we shouldn't have trusted you! You tricked us!" Sokka ranted in anger.

"Oi! Watch it there, mate! I was knocked out! I was trying to defend Aang! Zuko struck and I was knocked out! I was kidnapped." I decided trying to defend myself was futile. Katara scoffed.

"All you did was make him even more angry than usual. You taunted him."

"Okay, okay. I admit, it wasn't my smartest move, but if I was capable of more than moving my mouth when it came to fighting, I would of! I don't have any formal training in hand-to-hand combat, let alone bending!" They climbed on, now ignoring me.

I walked over to Zuko and swept the snow from on top of them. Anything else said went unnoticed by me.

Suddenly, Aang's hand was on my shoulder. I turned to see him smile at me and nod his head toward Appa. I nodded back and climbed up his tail and got into the saddle.

I saw Aang drag Zuko over to Appa and used Airbending to lift him up into the saddle. I thanked Aang and checked Zuko for any signs of a concussion. "Yeah, this makes sense. Let's bring the guy, who's constantly trying to kill us!" Sokka complained.

I chuckled and kept my eye on Zuko. "There's a bit more to Zuko than you realize. He's a... complicated character." They gave me confused stares, so I continued.

"In my world when I saw you guys, his story was there, too. It's a... depressing story with a happy ending. I used to dream about being there when he was banished, or when he first tried to capture Aang.

"But, there were other times when I would be there when he... redeemed himself. He's a cool guy, by that part. It's sad, really, but in the show, we had more of a detailed backstory for this villain than the four of you combined.... Sorry, I'm ranting."

Aang just chuckled. "Nah, it's fine. You need to vent, being put into a different place must have really thrown you off. Why don't you get some rest? We'll arrive at the North Pole shortly." I smiled.

"You know, for only being twelve years old, you're pretty wise."

He shrugged. "For being Fire Nation, you're not half bad." He winked, and I rolled my eyes.

I lied down in a comfortable position, and went to sleep.

I awoke to the sound of someone ranting. "-Zhao, the Invincible!" Ugh. It's Mr. Big-ego. I opened my eyes and noticed that everything had a red hue to it, now. Zhao had a bag that I knew carried the moon spirit. I kept my head down in the saddle.

I kept my eye on Zuko, and waited for him to wake up, as the talking went on outside.

"Wait, don't!" Aang rushed.

"It is my destiny." He defied. I wonder if I can use my looks to trick him into giving the fish up. "To destory the moon and the Water Tribe."

At this point, I secretly crawled down the tail of the bison and walked around from behind, stopping just before I was in sight.

"Destoying the moon won't hurt just the water tribe, it'll hurt everyone- including you." Aang tried to reason. "If you destroy the moon, the everything would be thrown out of balance. You have no idea what kind of chaos that will unleash on the world!"

"He is right, Zhao!" I completely forgot that Iroh gets involved in this. I should probably get back on Appa, save my little surprise for another time. I climbed back onto Appa, right as Zuko started to show signs of waking up.

"General Iroh. Why am I not surprise to see your treachery?" I could hear the smirk in Zhao's voice.

"I am no traitor, Zhao. We all depend on the balance." I heard no movement. "Whatever you do to that fish, I will unleash on you ten-fold. Let it go, NOW!" The pure anger audible in his voice scared me.

Suddenly, the moon when back to normal. Zuko was now sitting up. He began to climb out.

Sadly, the moon's return didn't last very long.

With a loud grunt of frustration from Zhao, the moon went completely dark. Blasts of fire came from the area where there was once talking.

I helped Zuko climb down and went with him. "What are you doing?" He whispered.

"Following you, that's what." I retorted. He rolled his eyes, annoyed. "Whatever, but you have to be able to keep up, I'm not going to wait for you." With that, he took off, and I followed closely behind.

We had made it about half-way through the city when the entire area was illuminated in blue, but Zuko paid no mind, so I couldn't stop to pay anymore attention to it. Once we turned the next corner, we saw Zhao trying to make a run for it.

I hid in the shadows, while Zuko attacked him. I watched as Zhao turned to face his attacker. "You're alive?" He sounded dumb-founded.

"You tried to have me killed!" He lashed out in anger and began to fire at him rapidly.

Zhao blocked him with ease. "Yes, I did. You're the blue spirit, an enemy of the Fire Nation. You freed the Avatar." He glared at the Banished Prince.

"I had no choice." Zuko continuously shot at him with flames, Zhao blocked every attack.

"You should have chosen to accept your failure- your disgrace. Then... at least you could have lived!" It was Zhao's turn to attack him. I stayed in the shadows, making sure the light of the fire didn't expose me.

The two of them fought, until Zhao ended up being knocked off ballance and forced down onto a lower level bridge. Zuko followed close behind. I followed, but at a much further distance as to not give away my presence.

The moon appeared soon after and no one seemed to notice until Zhao fell to the ground, and looked directly at. "It can't be!" He exclaimed in anger.

Suddenly, glowing blue water rose from the channel below and wrapped itself around Zhao. He struggled continuously. Zuko held out his hand. "Grab my hand!" Even now, at this point in time, he has the heart that his mom had.

Zhao began to grab it, but jerked it back when his pride took over. From there, I walked out of the shadows and let him see me before he died. He looked at me, and I shook my head in shame. I couldn't stand him. I wanted the last thing he saw to be me, thinking he had failed the Fire Nation. He was pulled under and drowned silently.

We walked silently to the outer wall and saw that Iroh was preparing a makeshift raft for himself and his nephew. He beaconed Zuko over and I followed behind.

When we made it over, Iroh finally caught sight of me. "Azula, what are you doing here?" He inquired in shock.

I bowed respectfully. "As much as I would love to be that psychopath, I'm not." I let the first part of my statement drip with as much sarcasm as possible. "I'm no princess of the Fire Nation. I just happen to look like her."

Iroh seemed shocked for a moment, and he looked like he wanted to say something, but decided against it with a shake of his head.

The three of us climbed onto the raft and let the tide take us elsewhere.

"I'm surprised Prince Zuko." Iroh stated suddenly. "Surprised you are not, at this moment, trying to capture the Avatar."

"I'm tired." He answered sullenly. I put a comforting hand on his shoulder, as did Iroh.

"Then, you should get some rest." I told him with a gentle smile.

Iroh nodded in agreement. "A man needs his rest. That goes for you, too." He pointed to me with a kind smile.

I nodded and lied down on one side of the raft, while Zuko took the opposite side. I closed my eyes and drifted into sleep.
