Part 1

Doc shifted as he woke up and looked beside him. the younger man was snoring away on his stomach. Doc gently ran his finger down one of the scratches on his shoulder with a small smirk. Lightning shifted slightly, groaning softly in his sleep, digging his face into the drool spot he'd left on the mattress. Doc hoped the scratches didn't hurt too bad. he was sure the man beside him would've backed out of their relationship years ago but he never did, not after three years of dating. Lightning assured him he wouldn't leave about 1 year ago when they decided to just up and have a Vegas wedding, suggested by the younger in a spur of the moment type thing. nothing big or special just a set of rings and a kiss and boom married. no friends, no family, just him and the other man. Doc hated it. he wanted something to show the younger he was special, that Doc was going to spend the rest of his life with him, because he'd already spent 70 plus years without him, but when he brought it up the younger was confused. he didn't understand, stating they'd already gotten married, he didn't seem to understand Doc wanted a wedding to show him off. he was pulled from his thoughts when Lightning shifted some.

"Hud." he groaned.

"hmm?" Doc mumbled, looking over at him.

"why did you wake me up?" Lightning ask.

"I didn't, or at least I didn't mean to. sorry." Doc murmured, leaning over to kiss his shoulder. Lightning grumbled a little burying his face in the mattress. Doc watched him with a small smile on his face.

"Hud." Lightning murmured.

"yes baby?" Doc ask, amused.

"we should get a puppy." Lightning said. the caught Doc's attention and he stared at him.

"what?" he ask.

"a puppy. I love dogs. you love dogs." Lightning mumbled. Doc rolled onto his side and wrapped his arms around Lightning.

"yeah sure. why don't we adopt a baby too while we're at it." Doc snorted sarcastically. Lightning pouted slightly.

"nah. I hate kids." Lightning murmured, shifting to bury his face in the older mans chest. "and you're too old to be a daddy." he added, yawning. Doc chuckled and pulled him closer.

"you're cute Monty, but you're stupid." Doc chuckled quietly.

"mmm, you're the one who married me." Lightning murmured. Doc kissed his head and the two laid with each other silently a moment. "so, puppy?" Lightning ask, lifting his head. his blue eyes were hazy from sleep. Doc kissed him gently, rolling on to his back, leaving the younger to lay half across his chest.

"can you convince me we need a puppy?" Doc ask.

"yes! puppies are cute and cuddly and loving and they're so much better than children and you can never be too old for a puppy. children suck. they're great when they belong to someone else, but I'd rather have a puppy." Lightning pouted, dropping his head on Doc chest. Doc rolled his eyes.

"kid we dated for three years and we've been married for one, why bring it up now?" Doc ask. "why not before? why not just buy yourself a dog? I wouldn't stop you from that." Doc ask.

"well, because we're married and I love you and... and I kinda figure if you haven't left by now, then you're not gonna leave me... or... or at least I'm hoping you won't...." Lightning trailed, hugging him tightly.

"me? leave you?" Doc snorted. "kid I'm 74 years old, I've got no where to go, no one to go to. you however, you just turned 30, you're in your prime kid. 44 years of difference love. you can get anyone you want. I'm just hoping I don't lose you." Doc murmured, holding him closer.

"where the fuck would I go? Doc you're the only person I've ever loved thats stuck around longer than six months. hell Sally and I only last three weeks." Lightning said softly, lifting his head to stare at Doc. "Macks the only person in my life to stick for longer than 5 years, well, besides you guys. face it Hud, you're the only person in my life that would ever marry me. would ever share a home with me or anything. I'm an asshole." Lightning mumbled. Doc smiled and pulled him closer, kissing him deeply.

"yeah well, I'm an asshole too." Doc murmured, pulling the younger closer. Lightning smiled a little and nuzzled his chest. "I love you Monty, I'm not going anywhere, okay? we can discuss a puppy, but with all the traveling we do it would be fair to the pup. leaving them for days at home or hours in a hotel room alone. wouldn't be fair would it." Doc said. Lightning pouted.

"yeah, you're right. it really wouldn't be fair." Lightning sighed softly. he finally sat up, straddling his husbands waist. "well, I'm gonna go shower. love you." Lightning murmured. Doc snorted and smacked one of his thighs.

"good, you smell like body odor." Doc said. Lightning huffed in mock offense.

"fine me and my body odor will go have a shower and you're not invited." Lightning said, sticking his tongue out and moving to get up.

"I don't have to be invited. it's my house too." Doc murmured. he held tightly to the younger.

"lemme go Doc. apparently I'm smelly." Lightning huffed. Doc laughed softly and let him go.

"go. I'll make coffee." Doc said. Lightning nodded and headed for the bathroom. Doc got up and grabbed himself a pair of boxers and some lounge pants, before heading into the kitchen. he loved the younger man, he had to pick on him. he made the coffee, he had to. if he let Lightning make it, he'd make it wrong. he always got coffee grounds in the coffee, like a lot of them not just a fleck of ground here or there, but the entire bottom of the pot would be covered with it. he loved the younger, so he'd drink it always, but Lightning had never started drinking real coffee, just those awful energy drinks that were full of chemicals, until after they started dating. he'd have one or two of those drinks and Doc had quickly put a stop to those when they got married, tired of tasting the chemicals on his lovers tongue. he snorted softly and sat down at the table, sipping his coffee and looking over his crossword puzzle. he looked over at Lightning when he walked in drying his hair. "have a nice shower?" Doc murmured, turning back to his crossword.

"sort of. water pressures down again." Lightning said walking over to the coffee pot.

"I need to fix that." Doc grumbled.

"it's fine. don't worry about it Hud. it doesn't hurt anything just makes a shower suck." Lightning chuckled, sitting at the table with a cup of coffee. Doc nodded and smiled at him slightly.

"do you really hate kids?" Doc ask. Lightning looked over.

"I don't like them. both of us are two old for kids. maybe back 10 years ago when I was twenty or something, but I'm not anymore." he shrugged. "you know, back ten years ago when I was attempting to be straight." he added. Doc nodded. "you ever think about kids?" Lightning ask curiously. Doc shrugged slightly.

"not really no. I'mma homosexual. in my day they wouldn't let us adopt or nothing," Doc said.

"don't say it like that Hud." Lightning murmured.

"right sorry, gay." Doc corrected.

"homosexual makes it sound gross and wrong. like its disgusting or something." Lightning mumbled, arms crossed over his chest. "and we're not. we're not disgusting or gross. we deserve to be happy." Lightning mumbled, staring at his coffee. Doc looked over at him and sighed, pushing his chair back away from the table. he always forgot and it made him feel guilty. the word Homosexual always got Lightning riled up and upset. a common word back from Docs day, always caused a stir with him.

"okay, come here baby." Doc murmured, waving him over.

"no. I'm not-" Lightning started.

"come here Monty." Doc said slightly more firm. Lightning stood and walked over silently. Doc sighed and grabbed him, pulling him down into his lap and holding him tightly. "okay just relax. I'm sorry, I know you hate that word Monty. I'm sorry." Doc murmured softly. Lightning huffed and curled up slightly. he laid his head on Docs chest, huffing again.

"stupid word." he mumbled. in any other case, Doc would've thought it was incredibly childish or funny, but this one singular word could take Lightning from having the best week of his life, to the worst mood you've ever seen. angry and upset. pissed him off more than when Chick Hicks makes him wreck. the only thing he'd really seen the man throw a temper tantrum over. he'd absolutely lost his mind on Mater the one time the man let the word slip, Lightning had actually punched Mater hard enough to break his nose.

"I know and I'm sorry." Doc soothes, holding him gently. he kissed the youngers head and held him. "you hate that word and I'm sorry Monty." Doc murmured. Lightning sat silently, holding him. "I'm sorry Monty." Doc said. they both jumped at a loud knock.

"Doc! hey! we got a medical emergency!" Sally calls. Doc groans, looking down at Lightning.

"okay baby, you have to get up now. I have to go." Doc murmured. Lightning held tighter. "whats up Sally? I'm a little busy at the moment!" Doc called back.

"Red got his hand smashed by Ramone on accident. he's got at least two broken fingers Doc, he takes a little more priority over your crossword puzzle!" Sally called. Doc shoved Lightning from his lap, though the younger was already getting up, and ran for the door.

"look Monty, I'm sorry I'll discuss this again with you when I get back." Doc said.

"get back? Hud I'm coming with you." Lightning snapped following after him. "there is no way someone hurt Red and I'm not going after them." Lightning growled.

"you're not coming in my clinic and you leave Ramone alone." Doc warned, running into the clinic. Lightning frowned and looked over at Sally.

"what the hell happened?" he ask.

"Ramone wasn't paying attention slammed a hood on Reds hand." Sally said. Lightning frowned and shook his head. "anyway, you two doing anything special for your anniversary?" Sally ask. smiling.

"oh shit, is it our anniversary already?" Lightning mumbled. Sally snorted.

"yeah. I think it is." she said, pulling out her cell phone. she showed it to him.

"oh shit. it really is... oh god I bet he remembered too." Lightning groaned.

"you forgot your anniversary? you two have been dating for 6 years Stickers." Sally said. Lightning stalled for a moment. oh shit. thats right. they never told anyone they were married. it suddenly dawned on him why Doc wanted a wedding, a real wedding, so their friends could know and wouldn't be upset that they missed it.

"son of a bitch." Lightning mumbled, heading into the clinic. "Doc." Lightning said, leaning against the door way of the room Doc and Red were in. he put his back to it, staring outside, broken bones made him puke.

"kid, I'm busy." Doc said.

"yeah I know. but we need to talk about Vegas." Lightning said, trying to be vague. Docs eye brows furrowed.

"okay. what about Vegas?" Doc ask, working on Reds hands. "just hold still Red, I know I'm sorry." Doc murmured softly.

"well do you know what day it is?" Lightning ask. they'd gotten married on their 5 anniversary, when Doc teased that he was going to marry the younger.

"no I haven't looked at the date I never got a chance to start my word puzzle." Doc muttered. Red cleared his throat with a small frown.

"its your anniversary Doc." Red whispered quietly, leaning forwards so he couldn't be heard by Lightning. Docs eye's widened and he looked over at Lightnings back, paling.

"shit." he mumbled under his breath. "uh yeah whats our anniversary got to do with this Monty?" Doc ask, too busy working on Reds fingers to put the pieces together.

"well its our anniversary I figured we could do something special. like Vegas. remember?" Lightning ask. "you've talked about it before. I just realized that no one knew anything about Vegas so we should do something they can enjoy too." Lightning said. Doc turned to look at him again quickly then back to Red.

"what tonight? seriously? Monty we don't have anything for it. I mean how can we get Vegas together in a few hours?" Doc ask.

"do you trust me? it you want to I can get it together. I'll have to call in a few favors." Lightning said.

"do it Monty. what time?" Doc ask.

"I'll let you know when I get this all set up. a 9 right?" Lightning ask.

"yeah." Doc said. "now go. let me focus on Red." Doc said.

"love you Hud!!" Lightning called running out of the clinic as quick as he could. Doc shook his head and smiled at Red.

"don't worry Red. I'm focusing on your hand too." Doc assures.

"you forgot your anniversary?" Red said softly.

"I haven't had a chance to look at the calendar in a few days. I knew it was coming up." Doc sighed softly. "hope he's not angry at me." he mumbled.

"I'd be a little angry if the person I married forgot our anniversary." Red said quietly. Doc froze and looked up.

"what?" Doc snapped. Red gave a hesitant chuckle.

"I thought he told you I knew... uh, he... he lost his ring helping me with my flowers...." Red said softly. "h-he was a mess. in tears, but didn't wanna ruin my flowers... took me forever to get what was wrong out of him..." Red said quietly.

"when did this happen?" Doc frowned.

"u-uh probably about a month after your Vegas." Red said softly. "I-I... I'm sorry Doc.. d-don't tell him I told you." Red murmured. Doc sighed slightly.

"I won't geez. I doubt the rest of the town doesn't already know." Doc huffed. Red shut his mouth, watching Doc silently patch up his hand. he smiled a little once Doc let him up and he looked over at the door, then back to Doc silently. "don't worry kid. I won't say anything to him. I promise." Doc soothed. Red nodded and walked out of the clinic, happily sporting his new cast. Doc sighed and took off after Lightning. he headed to the house, but Lightning wasn't there. his cell phone and keys were gone. Doc groaned and grabbed his phone, he paused when he went to leave the house. he looked down at his and Lightnings simple rings on the nightstand, before frowning. he went over to the dresser quickly. he had a set of beautiful rings made for them, just in case they ever decided to have a real wedding. opening his dresser drawer, they were gone. apparently they weren't as secret as Doc thought they were. he called Lightning.

"hi Hud, I'm a little busy. I love you but its 8AM and I have a wedding to get planned by 7 PM. thats 11 hours. Hud. 11 hours." Lightning said.

"Monty, you took my rings. my special personalized beautiful rings, that I personally had made." Doc frowned.

"mine was the wrong size. I'm getting it fixed, its half a size too small. I'm getting them professionally cleaned love. I promise nothing will happen to them. I've got a team of people on a nice small event in the town." Lightning said.

"now you listen to me Montgomery." Doc snapped. Lightning got quiet. "if we're doing this thing we're gonna do it right and I better not have a whole bunch of strange people setting up this." Doc said in a much more gentle tone.

"whatever you want I can have done." Lightning assured. "oh, and if you want your friends from Thompson to join us, you better call them now. it'll take them approximately 6 hours to get here and they're old like you love so I figure they'll need a little extra time to get here and settle." Lightning said.

"you want my friends there?" Doc ask shocked.

"Hud, those are your friends, your family. you said we do this right, call them and tell them to be in Radiator Springs by 7PM." Lightning said.

"why 7 kid?" Doc ask.

"because, the sky is gorgeous at the time, plus we'll have the beautiful town lights once the sun sets." Lightning said. "uh... I mean I can move it. I'm sorry, I'm kinda controlling all this and you're the one who wanted it..." Lightning sighed.

"kid, I don't care what it looks like, I just want people to know you're mine." Doc murmured. "set it up. do what you want Monty, as long as I get you I don't care." Doc added.

"thanks Hud. if you have anything you want done please let me know." Lightning murmured.

"I will, love you." Doc murmured, hanging up. he shook his head. Sally walked up to him chuckling.

"you forget its your anniversary too Doc? Stickers left in a big hurry." Sally chuckled.

"yeah, I did, kid told me he was sorry he forgot and took off. I wasn't going to tell him I forgot too." Doc murmured. "where'd he go anyway?" Doc ask confused.

"said he was heading to a nearby town for something. pretty sure he had your engagement rings. when the hell are you two getting married?" Sally huffed.

"no date yet. we're waiting for him to retire so he doesn't lose his career." Doc said. "if we're getting married at all. gay marriage is still a pretty new thing if you don't live in Vegas." Doc said. "look I gotta go I'll be back. if the kid comes back I'm not doing anything suspicious and I love him, bye." Doc said walking off quickly. Sally looked utterly confused, staring after him.

"uh... okay." she mumbled.

about two hours later Lightning rolled back up into town, phone to his ear and chatting with someone. he hung up almost immediately as he got out of the car.

"oh hey Sally." Lightning smiled.

"hey Stickers... uh Doc said if I saw you before him, you haven't seen him right?" Sally ask.

"no I haven't seen him." Lightning said, almost amused.

"oh good, uh, he's not doing anything suspicious and he loves you." Sally said. Lightning snorted.

"he's up to something." he mumbled, walking back to the house. he nearly ran straight into Doc as he walked into the house.

"where are they?" Doc frowned, holding his hand out. Lightning immediately put the rings in his hand.

"told you I wasa just getting them cleaned and fixed. see?" he ask taking the ring ment for him and slipping it on his finger. "fits now." he murmured. he gently pulled it back off and gave it to him, closing the older mans hand around them. "you had them made for us to get married with. I figured we'd finally put them to good use, you know I wouldn't destroy them Hud." Lightning murmured softly. Doc looked at the smaller hand holding onto his own, then to his husband.

"I know you wouldn't Monty." Doc murmured, pulling him closer and kissing him deeply. "but I spent a lot of time on these things and I'm not risking them getting lost." Doc said. he'd spent days talking to designers until he managed the perfect designs for the rings. one as red as Lightnings car with a gold trim and the number 95 on it with Docs initials on the inside of the band, beside his initials 'Fabulous Hudson Hornet'. the other was the same blue as Docs car with the same gold trim around the band and the number 51 on it with Lightnings initials and 'Lightning McQueen' as well. the rings were beautiful together. gold trim on both, top and bottom, with the red and blue in between it. Doc had spent forever on them.

"you don't mind if we do this out at the Butte right?" Lightning ask. "I mean I figured we should get officially married in a place that means a lot to the both of us." Lightning murmured. Doc raised an eye brow.

"Butte means something to you?" Doc ask curiously. Lightning smiled slightly.

"can't help it. I have memories there." Lightning murmured. "like the fact that, the Butte is where you jokingly ask me to marry you... we dropped what we were doing immediately and left for Vegas that night. we were married a few hours later and boom woke up the next morning with you driving us home. best memory thats ever happened there." Lightning murmurs softly, leaning his head against Doc with a small smile on his face. Doc wrapped his arms around him gently.

"wedding at the Butte sounds nice baby." Doc murmured, kissing his head. "do you need help setting anything up?" he ask, lifting his chin.

"no, everything is all put together, well, except I couldn't get a cake. didn't figure we needed one though. not like we're going to do anything cute with it anyway." Lightning shrugged.

"we don't need a cake. all we're really doing is renewing our vows kid." Doc shrugged.

"yeah but our friends don't know that." Lightning murmured, smiling slightly. he leaned forward for a kiss, Doc snorted softly and kissed him before stepping away.

"I'm keeping hold of these." he murmured, putting the rings in his pocket.

"afraid I'll lose them?" Lightning pouted.

"kinda. I mean, you lost the one I gave you in Vegas in Reds flowers." Doc frowned. Lightning immediately froze before pulling away. okay maybe that hadn't been the right thing to say at this very moment.

"he told you?" Lightning muttered.

"yeah right after he got done chewing me out for forgetting what today was." Doc frowned. "when were you going to tell me Red knew?" Doc ask.

"I found it. I wasn't gonna tell you I ever lost it." he mumbled, stepping back slightly. "I was afraid you'd get angry at me and regret it, because we'd only been married like a month when it happened, so I told Red everything and that I lost and he helped me find it." Lightning mumbled, looking at the ring on the nightstand. he'd stopped wearing it after he lost it in Reds flowers. Doc hadn't warn his since they hadn't told any one. Doc grabbed him gently.

"I would never be angry at you for an accident Monty, but that doesn't mean I'm going to let you hold on to these rings." Doc said. he kissed the younger man happily, rubbing his cheek gently. "is there anything you need my help with for this?" Doc ask. Lightning shook his head.

"no there's a team of people." he said. "hows Red's hand?" he ask. Doc sighed out his nose and stepped away.

"three broken fingers, a broken knuckle, and some bruising. he'll be alright." Doc assured, looking slightly annoyed. "Ramone needs to be careful." Doc added. Lightning nodded.

"could've been a lot worse, at least you got him fixed up." Lightning said. Doc nodded in agreement.

"yeah." Doc said. he pulled the younger man closer. "are we doing casual or what?" Doc ask.

"casual. I dress up enough for those crap after parties. I'm not doing that for something I want to have fun at." Lightning said. Doc snorted and stepped back.

"you're cute kid." Doc snickered, ruffling his hair.

"hey I shouldn't have to be professional at my own wedding and neither should you, Hud." Lightning said. "unless thats what you want... I didn't really set up anything fancy or anything, but I can't change that if you want to." Lightning said. Doc smiled at him and kissed his head.

"I want whatever you want. whatever makes you happy." Doc assured. Lightning frowned.

"no we did what made me happy to begin with and you weren't happy. I know you weren't." Lightning said. Doc frowned slightly.

"of course I was happy kid, I'm still happy. why wouldn't I be?" Doc ask.

"because you wanted a real wedding and convinced you to do a Vegas wedding." Lightning frowned. "because instead of planning or friends and family, I wanted to get it done with and call you mine, and I'm sorry." he murmured. Doc gave a half smiled and held him tightly.

"wedding, no wedding, you're mine. I'm yours. okay? I agreed to marry you either way." Doc murmured.

"but you'd be happier with a real wedding, not some stereotypical homosexual gay Vegas wedding." Lightning muttered. spitting the word homosexual like it burnt his tongue. Doc pulled him closer, kissing him before smiling.

"kid, I didn't think I'd ever get married at all." Doc chuckled softly. "but I have and there is absolutely no one on this planet I'd rather have married. I got you and I'm happy." Doc murmured. Lightning watched him a moment before huffing a sigh out of his nose.

"if you love me, be honest. what do you want here? fancy or casual?" he ask.

"I'm happy either way Monty." Doc assured. Lightning huffed out his nose once more.

"thats not what I ask." Lightning said.

"come on kid, don't make this an argument." Doc murmured.

"then give me an answer." Lightning said.

"it doesn't matter to me. it really doesn't. because I got you. I've got all I need right here, all I want right here. I don't need anything fancy here. I've got you." Doc replied.

"so you're fine with casual?" Lightning asks. "and you're not just saying that because thats what I want?" he added. Doc nodded.

"I'm fine with casual. the only fancy clothes I have are my court clothes anyway. don't make such a big deal out of this kid, we've already been married a year. exactly a year okay? don't panic Monty. I'm already yours." Doc soothed.

"I know but-" Lightning tried. Doc grabbed his face gently in one hand.

"look at me baby." Doc said. Lightning looked up at him silently. "shhh. breathe Monty. its okay. just relax please." Doc murmured, gently giving him a kiss. he gently let the younger go.

"this is the first our friends have even heard of this. they don't know we're already married." Lightning said. Doc smiled slightly. "Hud I'm just nervous." Lightning murmured. Doc sighed and held him gently.

"Monty, kid you weren't nervous when we actually got married." Doc murmurs.

"because no one we knew was there. things didn't have to be perfect, I wasn't nervous about what they-" Lightning started. Doc smiled slightly.

"they don't care kid. trust me. there is absolutely no reason to be nervous. we're already married Monty." Doc soothes.

"its not about them, it's about us, Doc! listen to me. this isn't about them or a wedding. this is about us about what we want. this is about the fact that you had things you wanted and I ignored them, so this is your wedding. we had mine. we had my wedding in Vegas, okay? its your turn Doc." Lightning murmured. "what do you want?" he murmurs.

"it does-" Doc tried.

"Hud, please." Lightning said. "don't tell me that, I know you're lying." he murmured. Doc sighed slightly.
