Blue Pearl heard approaching voices, ones she definitely recognized from a time that seemed so vivid, and yet so long ago. She recalled the first immediately. It was the Pink Quartz. Rose. The renegade leader of the Crystal Gems.

She used her form's long legs to her advantage, leaping into a tree so as to not be caught. She readied her spear, as well as a makeshift wooden shield, and watched.

"My Pearl..."

"Yes?" Rose's renegade Pearl stepped closer, right into Blue Pearl's line of sight. She looked... different than any of the other Pearl's she'd seen. Her appearance modifiers weren't melted to her, for one thing. And she looked almost... happy.

"You know that... Greg and I... we've been together for quite some time."

The Pearl's face briefly flickered with disappointment. "Y-yes, of course I know that..."

"Well, we've... we've been thinking for a while, and..." Rose exhaled in a loud sigh, smoothing out the skirt of her dress. "Oh, I don't know how to tell you this... we're having a child."

"... oh... oh! That's wonderful!" Pearl sounded happy, looked happy, but Blue Pearl could tell that she wasn't. "It'll be so great to have a new member of the team! We could teach them about the rebellion, and train them together, and-"

"Oh... I... I would love that." Blue Pearl could only sum up Rose's emotion as she looked down at her stomach in one word: melancholy. She'd picked it up from Blue Diamond. "But... this child and I can't both exist."

"W-what?!" Pearl recoiled in shock.

"I'm going to give up my physical form to bring them into the world."

"N-no, Rose, you... y-you can't do this! Not now! Not after all I've... not after all we've fought for!"

"I want to."

"But you don't understand... y-you can't leave this planet behind! I... we... w-we need you! Rose..."

"... I need to go back to the temple. Please, take your time." Rose slowly floated away, leaving Pearl sitting on the cold forest ground.

A bouquet of blue flowers drifted into her lap from the treetops.
