Chapter 6: Fake It
"As much as I'd like us to pick up where we left off last week before classes started. I have to ask you about how you're handling the attack?"
"I'm fine."
"Sir, you were attacked by villains. From what I've read you were front and center during the attack."
"I took command of the situation when heroes were inebriated." Kyoreki sighs as he sits back. "Mr. Yuki and Mr. Aizawa were rendered injured and one of my classmates would've died if I hadn't stepped it up and taken control."
"And you weren't scared?"
"Sure. I was scared. Not for my life though." Kyoreki says sinking slowly into the couch he's seated on. "What's the prompt for this week's journal entry?" He asks nonchalantly as if trying to skip to the end.
"Who's life we're you scared for? If not your own then had to be someone's." His therapist was a young woman with dark brown hair and beautiful brown eyes. She stares into Kyoreki's eyes, though he never returns eye contact.
"Mr. Yuki's." He answers, while somewhat true, it's clear to both that this is only a half-truth. "I don't know what I'm supposed to say. They were barely villains." He scoffs. "Many of them had no clue how to use their quirks in combat."
"Well, most people don't know how to use their quirks for combat. When did you learn that yours could be?"
"When I saw my mother on the news."
"What was Ms. Hikari doing?"
"She was a hero." Kyoreki murmurs. "That's when I learned how my quirk works." He slowly shifts on the couch trying to pull himself out of the comfort the couch provides.
"Did you remember your mother during the incident?"
"No."
"What drove you to fight for others?"
"Instinct I guess?" Kyoreki responds, his voice quieter than usual. "Just, seeing what they did to uncle." Kyoreki sighs trailing off.
"You helped people. You saved lives, Kyoreki." The therapist says her voice soft and soothing as she places a hand on his shoulder. "It's a part of being a hero. You did good." She gives a reassuring smile and Kyoreki looks up, a tiny hint of comfort visible in his eyes.
"It didn't feel like I was doing anything good though." Kyoreki says as he slowly brushes her hand off. He grabs from his pocket a small spiral notebook, that he places on the table between him and his therapist. "All the notes I have on yesterday I have written in there. I'm sorry if I'm speeding today, I want to get back to the hospital with Mr. Yuki." He pushes the notebook towards her, and she slides it fully to herself. She sighs her face a mix of pity and concern.
"It's alright, Kyoreki. I understand that you want to get back to him as soon as possible." She flips through the notebook and then hands it back to him standing up. "I guess we'll end today's session early. Your writing prompt for this week is to explain how you would help a friend who's being bullied without violence."
"Yes, ma'am." Raijin says accepting the notebook back he quickly exits the room and runs as fast as he can out of her office.
He hurries to the hospital, and after several minutes and a few stops, he finally makes his way to the receptionist.
"Hi. I'm Kyoreki Raijin, I'm here to see my uncle Link Yuki room 205?" He says slightly out of breath carrying with him a backpack with books and a bag filled with food and drinks. The receptionist nods as she points to the elevator and hands him a guest tag. He walks to the elevator and makes his way up to the second floor. After exiting he quickly enters Link's room.
"I'm back, sir." Kyoreki enters the room to find Ember and Gray in the room, a dim green glow emits from the room. Kyoreki lowers the backpack onto a chair and places the food on the table, the green light fades and Link takes a deep breath.
"How much longer?"
"You'll be bedridden for at least three more months. This is the most we can do for ya, Foxy." Gray says grabbing a chair and taking his meal from Kyoreki.
"So what'll happen to the school now that it's been attacked?" Kyoreki asks. Handing Ember her food, Link moves his bed into a sitting position to eat.
"Likely the school will expand security measures." Link comments finding his burger perfectly made. "Yes, sweet succulent burger. Don't you worry your little redhead about it for now. Likely they'll still do the Sports Festival. Just work on training for that for now. Kay' kid?" Raijin nods slightly, not saying a word as he eats his salad.
Wind whirls around, there's a large explosion in the night. Four people jump from tree to tree, what they're running from is harder to tell. Several lights shoot from the air into the ground. Two people escape the attacks easily. The other two are forced to fight, the first is a young woman, no older than 16 she holds a sword and barely defends herself with it. The second is a blonde male, he turns his head suddenly and shoots into the distance. Only for nothing to happen.
"Akashi!" The blonde male shouts as he keeps his guard raised. That is until a glyph forms behind him. He turns suddenly as an explosion rocks the ground around him, he jumps back just in time to be kicked in the head and sent flying into a tree.
"Hello, Alex." Akashi says, his hair this time is red, he grins grabbing Alex's sword, and stabs him in the chest with it. "Hopefully you'll stay dead this time, Flint." Akashi grabs a notepad from his pocket and scribbles down a few words that are illegible to anyone but him. He places the note on Alex's body and teleports away just as another glyph opens near him.
Link sighs as he sits in his hospital bed. He along with Gray sit together, the pair being two of the only ones left.
"The Abadon name crumbled after Zhor-En attacked." Gray sighs. "As of right now, I'm banned from hell until I can deal with Zhor-En's son."
"Yeah, we don't know when or if he'll attack." Link mutters.
"Just rest and recover for now. Ember and I can handle the hero work for the agency."
"What about Danielle?" Link asks.
"She'll be watching your kid for a while. We've already sent word to Fenton. He's gonna take a break from being Amity's hero to visit in a few months. Stars & Stripes can cover the US while he's gone."
"That woman's too OP."
"I'll say." Gray chuckles.
"So, what are we gonna do about these villains?"
"Nothing for now. They specifically wanted All Might. Likely they won't make a move for a while." Gray hums. "First you and I need to deal with the runaway."
Link looks down, in his watch he sees a picture of himself and his adopted son. Akashi Cole.
"Up next, an update on the incident at the UA rescue Training center where hero course students were attacked by a gang of villains. According to the police and sources, the criminal forces called themselves the League of Villains." A reporter says on the news. Kyoreki sighs as he sits in his chair watching the news while his uncle cooks dinner in the kitchen.
"Well of course they're unknown." Kyoreki sighs sitting back. "If they weren't then they'd have caught Shigaraki by now." Kyoreki mutters as he's handed a bowl of ramen. "Ramen again pa?"
"Yeah, it's been a few days since I went shopping, was hoping to go with you, since you make good lists."
"I don't make that good lists." Kyoreki chuckles.
"I disagree." He looks to the TV as the report continues. "So, how was it?"
"How was what?" Kyo asks, eating his ramen.
"How was the attack?"
"Not bad. Only time I got nervous was when Uncle Link got hurt."
"Yeah, I heard about him. Any update on his condition?"
"Mister Abadon said he'll be in bed for the next two months." Kyo says putting his bowl on the table. "It's my fault. I should've been faster."
"Kyo, it's not your fault. You couldn't have known what was gonna happen."
"I know..." Kyoreki's head falls back onto the chair.
Chapter End.
So... a shorter chapter I know, however, I wanted this to be more of a world-building chapter to explain how this book ties into an earlier book of mine called Out of Time which follows Link Cole (Yuki) during his time in Danny Phantom, and explain where things have changed since then.
