Chapter 4: Bodybag
I sigh, walking to school with my headphones on, listening to the music on my Spotify playlist. As I walk towards the school, I take them off before arriving at the gate, only to hear the loud chatter of dozens of reporters rushing me.
"You! Can you tell us what it's like to work so closely to All Might?" A female reporter asks, I glare at her, already annoyed and I haven't even arrived in class yet.
"I don't care." I say bluntly, once passing the barrier, I don't turn around, choosing to walk away, despite the many, many questions raised by my response. The announcement of All Might being on the faculty drove them to swarm the school. Everyone wanted to get their hands on All Might. Everyone but me. I walk into class and take my seat I stay silent, ignoring everyone in class.
When Aizawa enters the class, I remove one of my earbuds and focus if only somewhat.
"Decent work on yesterday's combat training, you guys. I saw the video feeds and went over each of your team's results." Aizawa praises the class. "Bakugo. You're talented. So don't sulk like a child about your loss, okay?"
Bakugo scowls, looking away. "Yeah, whatever."
"And Midoriya." Aizawa shifts barely to the student behind Bakugo. "I see the only way you won the match was by messing up your arm again. Work harder. And don't give me the excuse that you don't have control over your quirk. That lines already getting old." Midoriya looks down, seemingly ashamed. "You can't keep breaking your body while training here. But you're quirk will be really useful if you can get a handle on it." Midoriya raises his head with a smile. "So show a little urgency, huh?"
Midoriya hardens his gaze. "Right!"
"Lastly, Raijin." Everyone goes silent, Aizawa stares at me while I return a gaze back at him lazily. "You did good, I see you actually put in some effort this time." He says, a small grin forming on his face.
"I won't take it easy on anyone who wants to be a hero."
"As you should, but try not to hurt them too badly." He nods.
"Then how will they learn?"
"Through trial and error, but, of everyone yesterday you probably did the best aside from Todoroki." He answers my question. I hum in response and shrug leaning back, Aizawa continues. "Let's get down to business." He says, earning a small smile from me. "Our first task will decide your future."
Many of them stare, some panicked, others interested.
"You all need to pick a class representative."
Immediately they all recover from their fear.
"Pick me, guys! I wanna be class rep!" Eijiro Kirishima says his arms shooting up.
"I'll take it." Denki Kaminari raises a hand.
"Yeah, you're gonna need me." Kyoka Jiro says extending an arm.
"I'm, like, totally the right pick!" Mina Ashido shouts standing interrupting Yuga Aoyama.
In a normal class, a rep's duties would just be extra work, there's a bit more in the Hero course, not that I care.
"You're not gonna present yourself?" Momo Yaoyorozu asks me as she leans over.
"No."
"You don't want to be Rep?"
"No."
"Do you even want to be here?" Shoto Todoroki asks from my opposite side.
"No." I answer. I grow annoyed with the noise, and I along with Iida stand shouting at the same time. "Silence! Everyone, please!" Both of us turn to the other. I sigh walking to the front of the room. "A class representative's duty is to lead others. That's not something just anyone can do. First, you need the complete trust of everyone in the classroom." I reach the front of the class and stand at Aizawa's podium, he stands to the side watching me. "The most logical way for you illogical beings to this is simple, a democratic election of class representative. It's not a system I'm always fond of, but if left impartial and with specific rules in place it's the easiest way to do this. I don't want a vote, I don't want to be here, so vote for who you think would be best."
"Won't most people vote for themselves?" Kirishima asks me.
"Most will, that means those who gain more than a single vote are clearly the best suited for the task. As they've already gained the trust of others in this short time period." I glance to Aizawa. "Any objections, Eraserhead?"
"Do what you want, just decide before my naps over." He falls to the side asleep.
"Okay then, Yaoyorozu, create a small booth for people to put their votes into, everyone, grab a piece of paper and write your vote down, I as the person watching over the vote abscond from voting privileges." I say, clearly this was the only way to get these people to do so in an orderly fashion.
After the vote, I write on the board the results... and I'm pissed. All but three students got one vote.
Izuku Midoriya managed to get three votes.
Momo Yaoyorozu and I both received two votes.
"Okay, you idiots! Who voted for him?" Bakugo shouts.
"What, did you honestly think anyone would vote for you?" Sero asks annoyed.
"What did you just say?!"
"Enough!" I shout, remaining at the front of the class. "The votes have decided. Izuku Midoriya will be Class Rep. Momo Yaoyorozu will be Vice Rep." I stare forward at the class.
"Correction, Momo Yaoyorozu & Kyoreki Raijin will be Co-Vice Representatives."
"Why?" I turn to Aizawa who stares down at me.
"Cause I said so."
Midoriya and Yaoyorozu both join me at the front, as Midoriya stands behind the podium, I lean against it, with Yaoyorozu next to me.
"How'd this happen?" She sighs at the chattering Midoriya.
"You ask me, I didn't want responsibility." I scoff, as she backs down. The rest of the class all seem to agree with the elections.
Later during lunch, I sit alone on some steps eating the lunch I brought from home. It's a simple sandwich, but I won't complain, I like sandwiches. As I'm readying to eat Yaoyorozu walks in front of me. "Hey, Kyo, do you want to come sit with me and Jiro?"
"No."
"Why not?"
"I want to be alone." I retort, standing I climb higher on the stairs. Once I reach the top, I sit on the step and take a bite out of my sandwich, a moment later a person walks up behind me.
"You were in a hurry." I glance up and swallow my food finding the same girl as yesterday standing above me.
"Hello, hero girl."
"I have a name."
"Never learned it."
She hums and takes a seat next to me also unpacking her own food. "Yui."
"Kyoreki."
We remain silent after that enjoying our food. I finish my sandwich just as an alarm rings, I sigh hearing it.
"What's that?" Yui asks standing.
"Someone managed to get past the barrier, come on, we'll need to get those bozos in check." I leap down the stairs and after a blast of my quirk, I leap over the students and attach myself to the ceiling with my electricity. "Everyone focus!" I shout, Iida slams against the wall at the same time, the pair of us float above the others.
"Everything is okay!" We shout. The crowd freezes. "It's just the media outside. There's absolutely nothing to worry about! Everything's fine!" I lower myself from the ceiling, my arms crossed over my chest. "You're U.A students, act like it. Remain calm and prove you're the best!" I shout, Iida gives clear instructions to the others and I turn to him, I give him a thumb, initially, he smiles, until I flip my thumb downwards, you said your message, get down. I lower myself down and quickly escape amongst the crowd back to my spot, Yui sits there watching.
"You still don't wanna be a hero?"
Yui didn't ask that, I turn and find Sana standing there, she smiles looking down at me.
"What do you want Sana?" I glare at her, her dark blue hair flutters behind her as she steps closer.
"To see how my little brother is handling himself during an event."
"Whatever." I scoff, walking away I exit the cafeteria and return to class. Somethings wrong, how could the media sneak past the gate? After the incident all student returned to their classroom, Yaoyorozu, myself, and Midoriya all stand before the classroom.
"It's time class rep. Let's begin." Yaoyorozu says looking to Midoriya hopefully.
"Um... Okay, so we need to figure out who the other class officers will be." Midoriya says shivering in his red shoes. "But first, there's something I wanna say." Everyone's gaze turns to Midoriya, well everyone except myself. "I've thought a lot about this. And I think that Tenya Iida should be our class rep!" The announcement comes as a surprise, an unwelcome one from me at that. "He and Raijin were able to capture everyone's attention and get us in line. And while Raijin doesn't want the position, I believe he and Iida would be the best ones leading our class from now on!" Midoriya gives his appraisement much to my annoyance and frustration.
"Yeah, ya know what?" Kirishima is the first to speak up. "If Midoriya vouches for him, I'm good. Plus they were a big help. They totally manned up and took charge, right?"
"Yup." Kaminari agrees. "Oh! Did you notice how Iida looked like the dude on the emergency exit signs when he was on the wall earlier?" Kaminari asks.
"This is a waste of time." Aizawa says from his sleeping bag. "I don't care who the rep is, just hurry up." He lays back down.
"If Midoriya is nominating me for this job... then I humbly accept." He raises his arm while he gives his speech. "I pledge to carry out the duties of class rep to the best of my abilities!"
"Sounds good, Emergency Exit!" Kirishima cheers him on.
Yaoyorozu slouches down a bit next to me with a look of worry and a small frown. "Hello, I got two more votes than him."
"Nepotism is beautiful, ain't it?" I sarcastically remark from next to her.
"You say that..."
"Sarcastically, Idol." I scold her for not picking up on it.
Meanwhile, at the front gate, principal Nezu stands at the front gate with pro heroes and teachers Thirteen, Midnight, and the school nurse observing the destroyed section of the barrier. On the outside of it, a pro hero with blue hair observes the damage done to the wall kneeling as he inspects the rubble.
"How we're ordinary members of the press able to bypass our security systems?" Nezu asks. "Someone else must be behind this."
"I'll say, this doesn't align with any known criminal quirks listed. This is either Akashi's doing or someone new looking to make a name. Nezu, I request permission to be allowed to guard the students over the next week." The adult male says his left eye covered in an eye patch as his red right eye seems to take on a slight glow to them.
"Permission granted, Yuki."
Link stands in his hero "costume" which is just his usual clothes. "Thank you, principle Nezu." He says looking to the school one of the classrooms holds his daughter and another, someone he sees like a son...
"Today's training will be a little different. You'll have four instructors. Me, All Might, another faculty member, and a special guest hero on campus today after the incident earlier." All the students gasps tinned at the need for four pros being in charge of us.
"Sir! What kind of training is this?" Hanta Sero, a rather plain-looking boy asks.
"Rescue." Aizawa answers swiftly. "You'll be dealing with natural disasters, shipwrecks, stuff like that."
Okay, that's not my forte but not unmanageable. But, who's that fourth hero they've brought on campus? What's their role in all of this?
"Guys, I'm not finished yet. What you wear in this exercise is up to you. I know you're excited about costumes but keep in mind that you haven't gotten used to them yet, and they might limit your abilities. This special training is at an off-campus facility, so we'll be taking a bus to get there. That's all. Start getting ready."
Everyone rushes to their costumes, I patiently wait until everyone has left, I stare down at the suit, fine, probably better that I wear it. After quickly changing I head outside, my mask currently hanging from the back of the suit, unfortunately, I notice a few wandering eyes from the building behind us, some boys logging the girls, a few eyes on myself, Kirishima, Bokasu, and Bakugo mostly. I frown and cover my ears as the annoying sound of a whistle blows.
"Gather around, class 1A!" Iida shouts. "Using your student numbers form two neat lines so we can load the bus efficiently!" His orders go over like a wet paper towel, instead of listening to him, I just board the bus, finding it to be an open front, and choose to stay standing. By the end, the open layout of the bus ruins his plans. Iida sits on one side of the lower front end with Mina Ashido, Yuga Aoyama, and Denki Kaminari, opposite of them is Aka Bokasu, Izuku Midoriya, Tsuyu Asui, and Eijiro Kirishima, and I standing holding onto a bar.
"The bus's open layout ruined my boarding strategy." He pouts, head downwards.
"Iida, you really need to chill." Mina says confidently from next to him.
"No, he's been like this since we were kids. Honestly, it's part of his personality at this point." I say offhandedly.
"If we're pointing out the obvious, then there's something I have to say..." Tsuyu 'Tsu' Asui points at Midoriya. "...about you, actually."
"About me?! What is it, Asui?!"
"I told you to call me "Tsu."" She corrects him.
"Oh, yeah, right." Midoriya apologizes for panicking. Hmm, must've been bullied as a kid.
"That power of yours. Isn't it a lot like All Might's?" And like that, I don't care.
"You seem out of the conversation my fellow red, what's got your shorts in a twist."
"I'm not interested." I respond to Bokasu, himself seated directly in front of me.
"You never really do seem interested in anything. Honestly, if I hadn't been paying attention I'd assume you were a villain spy."
"Please, I don't have the effort, or the willingness to care about this."
"Or maybe, it's just a grudge."
"Maybe, I'm sure my therapist would agree with that."
"You go to therapy?" Asui joins into the conversation.
"Yeah, we'll leave it at that."
"You brought it up, explain it bed-head." Bakugo says annoyed.
"No." I scoff him off. "I don't need to tell anyone what it's like, already gonna have to repeat this whole week to them." I cross my arms while leaning back and close my eyes.
"Well, if any of our classmates have pro quirks it's Todoroki, Bakugo, you, and Raijin." Kirishima says offhandedly, whether he's referencing mother or not, I don't know, best not to comment.
"Sure, but Bakugo's always angry, and Raijin doesn't even want to be here, so they'll never be that popular." Asui adds on.
"What did you say?! I'll kick your ass!" Bakugo explodes in anger, proving her point.
"Kinda proving her point, Dynamite." I wave my hand as if wafting him away. "We basically just met ya, kid, kinda telling when we all think your personality is basically flaming-shit."
"Raijin, your profanity!" Iida scolds.
"Oh, grow a set, Iida."
"You're gonna regret the day you applied to this school, you loser!"
"I already regret the day I was recommended." I glare. "Besides, I bet you above all else you'll have to have someone else manage your PR when you go pro."
"Hey, hey, we're here. Stop messing around." Aizawa says to us getting the argument to stop.
"Yes, sir." Most of the other students say. Bakugi responds "Whatever." And my response is literally nothing. The bus stops and we disembark, all of us now starting to reform our normal groups. Bokasu, Momo, and myself all make up one group.
"Hello, everyone we've been waiting for you." Pro hero Thirteen stands before us, behind her he stands there, in his usual outfit, must've been doing stealth work today before coming for this.
"Hiya, kids." He grins.
"Uncle." I say looking at him and walking up to him. "What are you doing here?" I ask looking up.
"I'm an additional instructor, my sweet nephew."
"Sure you are." I say annoyed. All eyes fall on our interaction. Link Yuki, basically grew up watching his back. When fathers off on a trip to I-Island, I spend my time at his house with Sana, which is most of the time. Most of my classmates begin fanboying or fangirling over Yuki and Thirteen, much to my annoyance.
Thirteen, Aizawa, and Yuki all lead us inside the building, currently, we stand at an entrance, below us is a plaza that separates into several different areas that represent several different types of disasters.
"Woah, it's like some kind of amusement park!" Kirishima says excitedly about the place.
"A shipwreck, a landslide, a fire, a windstorm, et cetera. I helped create this training facility to prepare you to deal with different types of disasters. I call it the Unforeseen Simulation Joint. But you can call it, USJ." Thirteen explains.
"Well, I never did plan to visit Universal Studios Japan."
"Hey, shouldn't All Might be here already?" Aizawa asks Yuki to the side as Thirteen continues her explanation. "Lemme guess, he booked an interview instead."
"Actually, it's something else." Aizawa hums to Yuki's response, my gaze stays affixed to the two of them. "Apparently he did too much work this morning, used up his three hours. Currently, he's resting in the teacher's lounge."
"I'm surprised you know about his limit."
"Please, anyone with a keen eye and sensible mindset should've been able to figure it out. That old man's slowing down."
"That man is the height of irresponsibility." Aizawa turns and looks at us students. "Well, we should be okay with just the three of us. Clocks ticking. We should get started."
"Excellent!" Thirteen says excited. "Before we begin, let me just say one thing. Well, maybe two things. Possibly, three... four... or five..." She only stops as the students become downcast, I chuckle at how quickly that crumbled. "Listen carefully. I'm sure you are aware that I have a powerful quirk. It's called Black Hole. I can use it to suck up anything and turn it into dust."
"Yeah, you've used Black Hole to save people from all kinds of disasters haven't you?" Midoriya says awestruck.
"That's true, but my quirk could also very easily be used to kill." Their excitement dies along with the word 'kill'. "Some of you also have powers that can be dangerous." Her gaze falls upon Todoroki and I especially. "In our superhuman society, all quirks are certified and stringently regulated, so we often overlook how unsafe they can actually be. Please don't forget that if you lose focus or make the wrong move, your powers can be deadly. Even if you're trying to do something virtuous like rescue someone. Thanks to Aizawa's fitness tests, you have a solid idea of what your quirk's potential, and because of All Might's combat training, you likely experienced how dangerous your powers can be when used against other people. Carry those lessons over to this class. Today, you're going to learn how to use your quirks to save people's lives. You won't be using your powers to attack enemies or each other, only to help..." For me, her voice began to fade out a while ago, but that's where it started to sound just like background noise, somethings bothering you uncle, what is it? What's so bad that you needed to be here clearly not as an instructor, more like a bodyguard.
There's a small sparkle of electricity that runs over the lights which all begin to shut off, a moment later a purple mist forms over the water fountain in the center of the area, Yuki and I both step forward immediately, staring down at it, that's what you were worried about, isn't it?
"Stay together, and don't move!" Aizawa shouts immediately. "Thirteen. Protect the students!"
"What is that thing?" I murmur, though it's repeated louder by Kirishima which gathers everyone's attention. All eyes fall upon the mist, and dozens of people exit from it, this isn't a part of our training, not if this is how Aizawa and Yuki are reacting.
"Stay back!" Aizawa orders. He lifts his goggles as Yuki steps forward once again, I'm made to watch his back from afar, his civilian clothes switch to his combat uniform in a flash of light.
"This is real." Yuki says drawing from his back a tanto, a short sword that he's filled out to use in non-lethal manners. "Those are villains." Many of my classmates gasp in shock, I crouch down and extend my hands forward, this isn't good, isn't good, uncle's decent at fighting multiple combatants at once, but he's a spy class, Aizawa's an assassination class unit, neither are good at big engagements meets like this. Shit, shit, shit, we'll just get in the way. "Kyo." I hear Yuki speak to me, I glance up as he's turned back with a grin. "You've grown so much in the last few years, I'm putting you in charge of evacuating the students under Thirteen."
"Link..." I mutter before he, with a running start jumps down from our elevated position and lands on the glyph that forms beneath him, he basically flies over the villains for a brief moment allowing for Aizawa to rush into the fray.
"Don't die."
Chapter End.
