Chapter 13: Landmine

Here we are. Hosu City.

"Are you okay?" Yui asks glancing at me.

"As okay as I'll ever be." I mutter taking a step forward still inside the train station. We walk in silence making our way out of the train station, once we reach the exit, I glance over to a small thread tapping me on the shoulder. "Hello, sir. I'm Kyoreki Raijin. Student at UA High." I say not bowing instead looking to the pro hero who is trying to avoid the attention of the civilians in the area.

"Who are you..." Yui slows as she turns and sees the man we'll be interning with leaning against the wall staring at us. I glance over as she immediately bows her head, and roll my eyes.

"So how are we getting to your agency?" I ask, bluntly.

"No handshake, bow, or hug for an old mentor, Mr. Raijin?"

"I'm not Mr. Raijin. That ass is somewhere with the Camino Ward detectives."

"As vulgar as I last saw you, Kyoreki." He shrugs pushing himself off the wall. "You still need to work on that."

"Shall we go?" I shrug in response.

"Yes." He starts walking away, Yui & I follow him to a car he enters the passenger seat and we enter the back seat. I sigh and stare out the window not paying attention to anything within the car, especially with this headache that's pounding my head.

Chapter 13: Landmine

Bokasu sighs as he and Tokoyami stand in front of the doors to the agency where they will be interning.

"Nervous?" Tokoyami asks, glancing over.

"Just a bit. Shouldn't slow me down at all though." Bokasu remains staring forward as he's the first to step forward towards the building. On a sign, the name of the hero is very clear. Hawks

Yui & I stand side by side I continue to chew my gum as we stand in Edgeshot's office. We await for Edgeshot to return, glancing over, Yui seems nervous and fidgety. I look away, she signed up for this. I perk up as Edgeshot enters, I watch his eyes, as menacing as ever. He nods slightly, surveying us, surely.

"Right. Show me what you can do." He guides us to an elevator we descend two floors to an entire room dedicated to quirk training. The room is expansive, filled with various training equipment and dummies. "Little Raijin, you go first."

I roll my eyes. "Please don't call me that sir." I crouch down flipping the switch on my watch, activating a battery that shoots electricity into me, extending my hand forward I take a second to focus and use Lightning Cords, I use them to their fullest extent. The beams of electricity wrap around several of the dummies, making sure not to shock them anywhere lethal.

"Hold!" I pause as he orders me to. "Maintain your precise position right now. Slowly I want you to increase strength. Miss Kodai, while he's doing that I want you to increase the size of the dummies without touching his attack." We both nod, I watch her as she does her best to weave around the Lightning Cords, I bite my lip slightly as she comes close to the attack upon reaching the first dummy.

Tenya Iida remains silent as he follows the Pro Hero Manuel around Hosu City. The hero smiles and waves to the civilians passing by before he turns to Iida, in his full suit. "On a normal day, I'd just be waiting for client calls to come in. Not really exciting. But things have been fairly hectic here lately."

"So you're using street patrols to suppress crime." Iida comments.

"Yeah, exactly." Manual smiles as he waves to another civilian. "Man, I kinda can't believe Ingenium's little brother is interning at my agency. I'm sure you had offers from pros with much bigger followings than mine."

Iida doesn't respond. His mind is barely on the internship. No. Tenya Iida's mind lingers on The Hero Killer.

Kyoreki sighs as he sits in a common room. He and Yui will be sleeping at the Agency while interning. It's his first night not spent at a relative's home since the week after her death. He glances at a clock and sighs, 10:30 PM, he should be asleep but he can't. Not knowing what else to do he as quietly as possible sneaks out of the room to the roof, on his way he stops by the suitcase he brought with him, or rather, his guitar case. Once on the roof he opens the case and pulls out an acoustic guitar, normally he'd have his electric but, not today. He slowly walks to the edge of the building and sits down, his legs are dangling off the edge. He peacefully plays the guitar by himself, the first song he plays is Good Riddance (Time of Your Life) by Green Day, he messes up a few notes which causes him to freeze for a moment before he corrects himself, unknown to him Yui was watching from the doorway to the roof. He hadn't paid much attention to lessons taught that day, but he knew they were more for Yui than for him. How the system works. When a crime is committed, the emergency services are contacted, if it's considered a serious enough crime or dangerous enough environment, then heroes will become involved. Whether it be arresting criminals or rescuing people. Then the hero agency as a whole looks at the hero's work and decides their pay. There was one part Raijin was attentive to...

"Heroes are allowed to have side jobs, whether it be working commercials to promote their image or like Present Mic a radio host." Edgeshot explained as he watched the two students continue their training.

"I'm aware." Raijin shifts a few of his Cords to allow Yui passage through to her next target. "If I'm stuck being a hero, I might as well use it as a platform for what I actually want."

"And that is?"

"A musical career. I want to be a musician," Raijin doesn't take his eyes off Yui as she expands the size of the dummy, forcing him to increase his attacks potency to keep it from overwhelming him. After a moment the dummy begins to shrink again.

"Moving on, you need to practice and train constantly. Even during your off time."

Yui nodded to the lesson, meanwhile, Raijin had yet again started to tune out Edgeshot and his lecture.

Raijin takes a deep breath as he looks out to Hosu. He continues strumming at the guitar, beginning another song he even sings a few of the lyrics.

"Adrenaline in my soul. Every fight out of control. Do it all to get them off their feet. Crowd is here, about to blow. Waitin' for me to start the show. Out the curtain lights go up I'm home."

The following morning Yui & Raijin sit in silence as they eat their lunches. Both of them sit near the edge of a building as Edgeshot stands over them looking out into the city.

"Kyoreki." Edgeshot speaks, his gaze unmoving from Hosu.

"Yeah?"

"What is your reasoning for rejecting Heroism?"

"I don't wanna die." Kyoreki looks out into the city, his gaze lingers for a moment before he returns to his food.

"You think being a hero will get you killed?"

"It's what happened to mom."

"Mom?" Yui finally speaks, she stares at Kyoreki confused. "Raijin, who's your mom?"

"Former Number One Hero, Livewire." Edgeshot answers before Kyo can change the subject. "She was my mentor, along with many of the top heroes of today."

Kyo hums, gulping down some water. "She's often called the mother of modern heroism. Some people even believe she trained All Might. The dumbasses."

"Kyoreki." Edgeshot speaks his name, scolding the boy.

"You and I both know she didn't train him, Mr. Kamihara." Kyo retorts, his voice laced with venom, not yet heard by Yui, or even Edgeshot, the bitterness and almost hatred coming from him seems to take them both off guard. "I don't care what he says. I don't think he should be the Number One hero. He's flashy, mother trained practical over charisma. She was the best so she was number one. He's number one cause he can sweet talk a crowd." Kyo sighs, grabbing his food he throws the remains away and walks back inside Edgeshot's agency leaving Yui and Edgeshot alone on the roof.

Edgshot takes a breath before he looks down at Yui. "Apologies for his outburst. He doesn't like talking about his mom. And... it seems his feelings for All Might have gotten worse." Yui doesn't respond, instead, she very lightly watches the door to the building, which Kyo wouldn't exit for a few hours.

"Now I get it." Stain says as he stands across from Tomura Shigaraki and Kurogiri at the bar. "You must be the ones who attacked UA. And you wanna recruit me to build up your little group again."

"Yeah." Shigaraki answers. "It'll be great, you've got so much experience."

"And what's your mission?" Stain asks.

"For now? I really just wanna kill All Might. I like to destroy anything that pisses me off. Like these brats here." Shigaraki raises the photos of Midoriya and Raijin from the Sports Festival. "Game over."

Stain glares at Shigaraki. "I was a fool to think you could offer me anything. It turns out, you're the type of person I hate most in this world." This gathers both of the villains' attention. "The goals of your 'league' are those of a child. What meaning is there to killing if you don't have real convictions?"

"Master. Should I step in?" Kurogiri looks at a monitor behind him and Shigaraki. On it, the monitor is black with two words in purple that read 'SOUND ONLY'.

"Let it happen. It's possible this is the only way he'll learn anything. He needs to think about the ways he must grow. How he can mature. Only then will he reach his potential. So you want me to be a part of your crumbling little league? But you won't accomplish anything if you don't have conviction and desire. Without those, you'll always be an aimless weakling. Achieving nothing." Stain in a flash stands over Shigaraki, leaving him bleeding on the floor and Kurogiri unable to move. "The word 'hero' has lost all meaning in this society. Ever since the death of Livewire the world has become overrun by fakes and criminals like you who chase petty dreams. They must all be purged." His blade aims for Shigaraki's face, however, before he could strike, Shigaraki catches the blade with his hand.

"If you touch this palm, I'll kill you." Shigaraki glares at Stain, his decay starting to affect the sword in his hand. "You sure talk a lot 'Hero Killer.' Conviction? Maybe I don't have anything as loaded as that. If I had to pick a desire, though..." He shatters the now rust-covered blade. "Yeah, it'd be killing All Might. If this world wants to worship trash like him, I'll destroy their beloved Symbol of Peace, and then crush them while they're in shock." Shigaraki reaches up for Stain, who leaps back out of reach, narrowly avoiding the attack. "The last of my injuries was finally about to finish healing, and now this. You should learn not to play with knives. We don't have a healer in our party, you know."

"I see your nature." Stain speaks up. "It seems our goals fundamentally oppose each other. However, this wasn't in vain. We agree that we need to destroy the present."

"I'm over this." Shigaraki scoffs. "Leave, drop dead. I'm the kind of person you hate most, right?"

"I was testing your motives." Stain puts his remaining knife away. "People always show their true colors when on the verge of death. It's abnormal, but there is desire, a warped sprout of conviction, inside of you. How will it bloom in the end, I wonder. Maybe I'll let you grow. If you don't turn out well. I'll take care of you later."

"You think you could get rid of me?"

"I'm free." Kurogiri says as he finally is able to move, regaining motion as he covers the cut on his arm.

"Kurogiri. Someone as crazy as this would be nothing but a problem for the League of Villains."

"Please reconsider. This man will be a great asset if he joins us. I'd say this was a success."

"My business here is done. Now, you will return me to Hosu. There are still several false heroes I must attend to there."

Kyoreki sighs as he stands on the roof. It's late at night, and Hosu's rather quiet. Kyo looks down at the road thinking to himself.

(Hero Killer Stain. You always have a minimum of 4 targets. No doubt, if Iida's looked into the records, he'd have noticed the pattern too. So far, Ingenium is the only hero in Hosu to be targeted. Meaning there are likely three others targeted, and many more that will be extra damages for interfering. You're still in Hosu, and I need to deal with you before Iida can find you. I will be his keeper. He doesn't need to follow the route I did.)

It's the end of the third day, nothing has happened other than training. Kyoreki & Yui have barely done actual hero work. Kyoreki takes a deep breath, during the exhale it suddenly turns to a gasp as his eyes widen watching a building explode before him.

"Oh no." Kyo says softly as Yui & Edgeshot join him on the roof.

"Kids, you stay back."

"Fuck that!" Kyo shouts as he jumps off the roof and starts running around the city, he runs looking through any and every alley he can find, it takes him several minutes, but he finally finds it, just the right alley, but it's too late, he's already found him.

"You listen to me, criminal. I am the brother of an incredible hero who you attacked. He's the best older brother that anyone could hope for. I have come to stop you because he can't anymore. You're going to remember my name for as long as you live. I am ingenium, and I will defeat you! That, I promise!"

"Damn it, four eyes, what the fuck did I tell you," Kyoreki shouts as he launches his lightning cords, forcing Stain to leap back to avoid the attack, as he grabs Iida and the Pro Hero, Native. He drags them away from Stain placing himself in front of the others. "Hero Killer Stain. You don't know me, but I've been watching you for a long time."

"Who are you?"

"My name is Kyoreki Raijin. But that doesn't matter. Did you or did you not kill LiveWire?"

"Livewire? What does she have to do with this?"

Kyoreki's eyes harden. "Did you kill my mother?"

"No. I had nothing to do with the death of Livewire."

"Then I hold no grudge against you or your goal. However, I can't condone your methods."

"What?" Stain stares at Kyoreki, both he and Iida have their eyes firmly on the redhead.

"Changing this society, truly it's an admirable wish. But quite frankly I fundamentally disagree with how you go about it. You're a band-aid on a missing limb. Not much can change unless it's from the top." Kyoreki keeps his attack in a defensive posture. "I promise this, Ingenium won't be the one to defeat you. I will."

"Then so be it. Die."

Chapter End.
