Chapter 11: Kingdom
A villain sits on a water tower, he stares down at his crime scene, unnoticed by Ember & Danielle below who focus on helping Ingenium. He cleans his blade of blood. "You haven't even noticed yet. This warped society mired by hypocrisy and vanity. That's fine, I'll open your eyes, "heroes."" He says to himself glaring at Ember. "You'll see the world you created." He swiftly turns his blade meeting a warpgate, one made by Kurogiri.
"Please remain calm. We are of the same mind." Kurogiri speaks without revealing his body to the villain, nor to the heroes. "I have been searching for you, Hero Killer Stain." Kurogiri's mist body forms looking down on Stain. "I heard of your exploits and wanted to meet you in person. I think you'll be interested in what I have to offer." As this is happening, Shigaraki watches the Sports Festival, as does Akashi who watches the festival, having already printed a screenshot of Raijin, the word kill written underneath it.
Chapter 11: Kingdom
Raijin sits between Yaoyorozu & Bokasu as they watch the final match begins. The match starts with Todoroki attempting his massive wave of ice on Bakugo which seems to have won the fight easily.
"Well, this is new." Raijin comments.
"It is?" Yaoyorozu asks.
"This isn't what he did to Sero or Bokasu." Raijin stares at the ice. "This is far more controlled. He was angry when fighting Sero, and unconfident when fighting Bokasu. This is a focused Todoroki. He's being cautious." Raijin points out. Everyone hears the muffled explosions that grow louder with each passing second.
"What's that terrifying sound?" Mineta asks.
"That's one angry Pomeranian." Raijin jokes. The ice cracks, then more, then once more, and finally it shatters. Bakugo stands at a hole made in the ice. "He tunneled through the ice." Raijin says in awe.
"Those two are insane." Kaminari says scared. As the fighting continues. Everyone hears Endeavor encourage Todoroki to use his left side, causing Todoroki to hesitate and throw Bakugo. The two land in front of each other.
"Stop screwing around!" Bakugo shouts. "What, do you think I'm not worthy of your fire?" Bakugo does a few explosions to keep his hands warm. "You bastard! I'll tell you what'll happen if you make a fool outta me. I'll kill ya!" Bakugo stares at Todoroki. "I don't want there to be any doubt that I'm the best student at the festival. That's only possible if you come at me as hard as you can! There's no point if you don't fight me with the same power you used against Deku! If you don't wanna win this, why are you even here?!" Everyone watches silently, mostly with open mouths, some finally seeing Bakugo's true desires, Raijin, with a respectful nod. "Show everyone you're trying to destroy me!"
Todoroki hesitates for a moment, as Bakugo approaches. "Come on Todoroki! Don't give up! Do your best!" Midoriya shouts. His words seem to finally reach Todoroki. "Damn it, Pushpop! Don't throw in the towel now! You still wanna be a hero right?!" Raijin joins in, shouting for Todoroki as well. Both of them showing their support for their classmate. It's then that Todoroki's left side starts to activate, and flames appear on his left side. Bakugo begins to start setting up his ultimate move, the same move he beat Raijin with. However, in the final moment before the Howitzer Impact, Todoroki's flame retreats, instead, he tries to use one of his Ice attacks for defense.
When the smoke clears, Bakugo lies in the ring confused. "Huh?" He murmurs. Before it hits him. "You decided not to use your fire?" Bakugo stares at Todoroki's unconscious body laying on a pile of ice rubble against the arena wall. "No..." He says almost aghast. Everyone watches, almost the entire arena has gone silent. "Hey..." Bakugo calls out quietly, "Hey..." He says louder before he grabs the unconscious Todoroki by the jacket and pulls him up. "You stop messing around!" His voice is breaking, Bakugo's broken something inside. "This isn't a real win for me unless you try harder! It can't end this way. Now get up!" The arena floor fills with Midnight's quirk that knocks out Bakugo.
Midnight raises her arm. "Todoroki is out of bounds." She stares at the unconscious Bakugo. "That means... Bakugo is the winner!" The crowd explodes into cheers. Raijin stands against the railing his head lowered as he sees the graphic showing Bakugo's victory.
After the arena is cleared, all the students stand in the middle of the field. Midnight stands before them. "The first-year students have completed all of the events for the UA Sports Festival. Now it's time to relax and enjoy the awards ceremony." She announces. The crowd cheers for the ceremony's start. Three pillars rise, first, the third place pillar carrying Raijin & Bokasu, the princes in red, the next podium is second place, Todoroki stands alone, and lastly the winner. Bakugo who is chained up and furiously thrashing about. Bakugo stares at Todoroki enraged. "Now let's break out the hardware! Of course, there's only one person worthy of distributing the awards."
"Please be Aizawa, please be Aizawa." Raijin says quietly, groaning as he hears All Might's laughter.
"Citizens! I am here with the medals!"
"All Might, the number one hero!"
All Might & Midnight speak simultaneously, kinda throwing off the pomp and circumstance. All Might approaches the 3rd place podium.
"Young Raijin, Young Bokasu, congratulations. You both showed great strength and speed out there." All Might easily places the medal on Bokasu, Raijin however resists, instead he holds it in his hand, not wrapping around any part of himself. Only taking it because Bokasu forced his hand. Several in the crowd note Raijin's glare, almost hatred directed at All Might. "You both have more training to do to fight against different kinds of villains. You're not going to be able to rely on your quirk in every battle you face."
"Yes sir." Bokasu says softly.
Raijin instead crosses his arms and looks away. "Sure." He says bluntly, his gaze lingers for a second on Yui who's one of the few who seems to be cheering for him specifically.
All Might then moves on to Todoroki, then Bakugo.
After the festival, and the third year's tournament, Class 1A meets back in their classroom with Aizawa.
"Nice work. You have the next two days of school off to recuperate. I'm sure the pros who watched the festival will wanna recruit some of you. We'll look over the draft forms and update you when you return. Get some rest." Aizawa orders his students. "You still have a lot of training."
"Yes, sir." Many of the students reply. Raijin stands immediately and marches out of the room. Several watch him, none closer than Aizawa.
"So, third place." Raijin sighs as he tosses the medal onto a coffee table as well as his notebook, he sits down across from his therapist who smiles at him. She grabs the medal and fixes it, showing it respect which Raijin didn't when he tossed it on her table. "You should be honored. You did great. Second in the first event, first place in the second event, and tied for third in the singles tournament."
"What does it matter when I don't want this?" Raijin leans back annoyed. "Now I have the eyes of Japan on me eagerly awaiting my debut as a hero. As another All Might fanboy. Another liar. Another fake." Raijin speaks, and more and more his words become venomous, angry.
"When you debut, what kind of hero would you like to be seen as?"
"No one. I don't want to be a hero. I haven't since I was a naive child."
She nods solemnly. "What made you not want to be a hero?"
"My mother's death, no, actually, that's only a part of it. It's this fake system. One that lets Endeavor reach number 2, which is fitting cause that's what he is." Raijin continues to speak truthfully, fully from his anger, fully from his emotions.
"I watched you yesterday. You looked like you were having fun. That is until All Might appeared."
"And?"
"Why do you hate All Might?" She asks.
"Hate All Might? No, I don't hate him. I don't hate the human being All Might." Raijin says taking a deep breath. "I hate The Symbol of Peace." Raijin looks up staring directly at her. "I hate this system where there are too many heroes here for the glory, for the fame, for the money. This system All Might propped on his back, over hundreds and thousands of corpses. A system that regularly fails the impoverished. That regularly fails those with bad luck. He made this system. An Era where no one cares about those lost in it." Raijin stands and grabs his journal. "What's the prompt for this week?" He asks.
"What to do when a friend loses someone dear to them. How do you help them grieve?" She gives him his writing prompt for the next week. And so Raijin leaves, the following day he and his uncle are at a pier by Camino Beach.
"So what are you going to do with it?" His uncle asks.
"I don't want it."
"Not on the trophy case then?"
"No." Raijin says holding the medal, he sighs ripping off the UA ribbon and drops it into the ocean (the scumbag), and tosses the medal to his uncle. "Make something out of it. I'm sure you can figure something out with this much junk metal." Raijin walks away from the sight of the sunset on the beach.
