Spencer pulled her white Porsche up in front of Toby’s house. “It’s nice being back in my own car,” she observed comfortably. Toby smiled; he hadn’t seen Spencer this relaxed in a while, and it was nice. Very nice. “I’m glad we’re home.”
“Me too,” he agreed, squeezing her hand. “I guess this is my stop.”
Spencer nodded as she opened the car door. She walked around and opened the door for Toby. Spencer walked back to the trunk and grabbed Toby his luggage. “Text me once you get home?”
“Okay,” she promised, glancing around quickly before giving him a quick peck on the lips. “I’ll see you tomorrow.”
“’Kay,” he responded dreamily, grinning up at her. “Be careful getting home. It’s dark and the snow’s starting to stick.”
“Always am. Goodnight, Toby.”
“Night, Spencer.” They grinned at each other once more before he started walking to the house, glancing back at her every few feet. Spencer waited until he was safely inside before driving off.
She smiled at herself and turned the radio up. Who would have ever thought things would turn out so right with her and Toby, all because they got kicked off of that reality show? She thought about this as she gently tapped her fingers against the steering wheel, singing along to the song on the radio.
“Something happens and I’m head over heels. I never find out ‘til I’m head over heels; something happens and I’m head over heels,” she sung until she caught herself. She instantly pursed her lips, shaking her head, amused at the love-struck fool she was turning into.
Spencer scoffed at her own good mood as she sped through the streets on the outskirts of Rosewood. She winced a bit, turning on the windshield wipers, for the snow was making it nearly impossible for her to see more than three feet ahead.
When she went around the sharp corner, she realized the entire road was frozen over. Spencer jumped when she began to feel the car lose control and spin to the middle of the road.
Her eyes widened in panic when she saw another car’s speeding headlights quickly approach the front of her little, 1970s Porsche. Clearly, the driver didn’t see her until it was too late. Spencer gasped in terror as the SUV violently collided with the front of her car.
She felt a painful jolt, and then everything went black.
