“Toby!” What are you doing?” Spencer hardly got out through her relentless giggling. “Stop! Stop! That tickles!” She gasped and laughed at the same time, attempting to press his head against her shoulder to keep him from attacking her neck with fluttering kisses that both warmed her up and made her body tickle.
He chuckled against her, and she could feel the vibration of his lips against her skin as she did so, causing her to close her eyes softly. She huffed in protest, until she realized that he decided to move to her lips.
“Excuse me,” Bethany said as politely as he she could, reminding Toby and Spencer that they were in a small crowd and in public. “I’d like to introduce the next challenge. It’s called the Nearly Wed Game.”
Toby exhaled sadly against Spencer’s lips. He just wanted her without all this extra attention…he didn’t care if they were around anyone at the moment; he didn’t want to pull away. Their lips hardly parting an inch, Toby kept his eyes closed and whispered, “What have you done to me…?”
Spencer laughed gently. They were so close she could still feel his breath on her lips, every intake and outtake…”What have you done to me?” she commented right back.
Toby smiled, leaning in to give her one more gentle kiss. “I’d never thought I would be this kind of boyfriend,” he sighed playfully with the shake of his head.
She arched a brow and pretended to be insulted, but really, how could she, when he was kissing her like that. “What kind of boyfriend?”
Grinning softly and brightly, he opened his eyes. “You know…midnight swims, night-long kisses, PDAs…”
Spencer’s emerald eyes lit up with excitement. “I’ve turned you into a total sap,” she exclaimed, extremely pleased with herself.
Toby hung his head in shame. “You totally have.” Despite his depressed body language, he couldn’t help but glance through his half-closed eyelids.
She instantly raised his chin, going up on her tip toes so they were eye level, fiery green to shining green. His skin was smooth beneath her hands, and the action of pulling him close, through it was really foreign to the best friends, felt familiar in the best ways. “I love it though.” She pulled him close for another kiss.
They completely missed Bethany’s instructions. Oh well.
It turned out the game was fairly simple. The guys all left the room and were escorted into the building while the girls all sat at the same booth. Bethany asked them multiple questions, from their boyfriend’s favorite color, to more uncomfortable and heartbreaking questions….but Spencer answered as honestly as she could. Then, the guys were brought back outside where they had to answer the same questions. If both of their answers matched up, they got a point.
The game quickly progressed, and Spencer and Toby were easily getting points with simple questions, like how many boyfriends Spencer had had, what Toby’s biggest fears were. They had a strong lead.
Bethany raised the card. “Okay, guys, next question…which girl in the house would you most likely end up cheating on with?” She chuckled as she curiously waited for the answers.
Toby uncomfortably shifted in his seat, and Spencer sighed, gripping the card where she’d already written the answer. She knew what she had written, and was seriously prepared to hear that as Toby’s reply to the question.
With a deep sigh, she watched as he bit his lip and shook his head, as if he was outraged by it. “No one! I wouldn’t do anything in the world to hurt Spencer like that,” he said sternly.
Then, everyone shifted their eager gazes to Spencer’s face, where she gripped the card tightly, wondering why she even had to show it now. But, those were the rules, so shakily, she raised the paper. In big letters, clearly angrily written in her usual handwriting, was the name “Jenna.”
She was rewarded with a silence. Fearing Toby’s anguished face, Spencer kept her head down, but in the corner of her eye, she could clearly make out Jenna’s smug grin.
Toby let go of her hand.
