Toby walked through the hallway of the house, a careless, happy look plastered on his face. He couldn’t wipe away his smile and he didn’t want to. He was running on pretty much no sleep, but that was okay. He probably couldn’t have slept if he wanted to. “Someone looks happy,” a voice said from behind. Startled, Toby turned and jumped, only to be met with Jenna’s gaze. “Hi.”
Instantly, he rolled his eyes. Mood shattered. “What do you want Jenna?”
“You,” she smirked. “But that’s beside the point.” Her eyes raked over his body and she took a step closer. Instantly, he was overwhelmed with the alluring scent of chocolate and salt, but didn’t move closer like she’d been hoping.
“I’m not really in the mood for your games, Jenna,” he snapped.
She laughed. “Why not?” They’re so easy, Toby…”
He glared coldly. “Go away, Jenna. I don’t need you messing anything else up.”
“Is there a problem?” Joe’s deep voice interrupted Jenna and Toby’s intense stare-down. His light, sandy brown hair fell into his eyes, and Jamie, who was always at his side, sensually brushed it away as they approached him.
“No.”
With that, everyone exchanged smiles and parted ways. Toby stood there for a moment. He turned the knob into his and Spencer’s room.
As soon as he entered, his gaze fell on Spencer, lying on her stomach on the bed, absorbed in the television. He slowly made his way into the bedroom, never once letting his gaze move away from her.
He rushed soundlessly to the bed, lying on his stomach too to stare at the television. But first, he leaned close to her, placed a gentle kiss on her cheeks, and whispered softly, “Hi.”
Spencer giggled, her attention instantly pulled off of the television as she leaned into his touch. Playfully pouting, she looked into his green eyes. “Don’t interrupt me while I’m watching Once Upon A Time.” It was clear from the tone of her voice that she could care less about the program when he was beside her.
“Sorry,” he whispered when he pulled his lips away from her cheeks.
Spencer laughed, glancing back at the TV. “We should have a relationship like Emma and Hook.”
He chuckled at her words, shaking his hands. “Okay, he agreed playfully.
Scooting a little closer to him, Spencer shook her head. “We’re such dorks,” she concluded, leaning to rest her head on his broad shoulder. “I think you’re rubbing off on me.”
“We’re like a real life Captain Swan!” Toby smiled, glancing at her head on his shoulder, loving the way it felt. He decided nothing felt better than being close to Spencer like this. It wasn’t awkward like he feared, it was just Spencer and Toby, Spencer and Toby in their truest element. They didn’t even care about the cameras anymore….they didn’t matter as much anymore. After all, they didn’t have much to hide now. “Did you get any sleep?”
“Indeed we are!” Spencer said. “Yeah. I took a nap. Have you?”
“No,” Toby replied.
“Then sleep!”
He simply shook his head in response, “Later, I promise. Right now, I just want to hold this moment.” Gently, he rested his cheek on the top of her head, inhaling her sweet scent that sang of cotton, strawberry, and winter.
Spencer giggled. “That was cheesy.” Instantly, Toby apologized with a laugh, but she shook her head. “No. I like it.” With that, she turned her head to face him, her heart oddly picking up in her chest. Still grinning just a bit, she glanced down at his lips, feeling nervous, until she reminded herself that she could. After all, she was his and he was hers. He promised her that.
She wasted for too much time thinking, so he kissed her instead.
That move had her heart doing cartwheels. She knew, without a doubt, that Toby felt the exact same way about her as she did with him. Sitting up so he could wrap his arms around her, she followed his direction, their lips moving with every gentle kiss exchanged.
Toby lost the train of thought the second their lips met; she just had that effect on him. Slowly, he raised his hand and cupped her cheek, lightly stroking her face with his thumb. So much for keeping their attention on Once Upon A Time. Her kisses were like rain in the fall time: gentle but overwhelming, sweet, uplifting, and beautiful.
He brought up both hands to hold her face, trailing his lips down her cheeks. They broke apart after about ten minutes. Instantly, Toby sat up and stared at her.
Spencer, on the other hand, needed a moment to regroup. With a hand over her pounding heart, she stared up at the ceiling for a brief moment before smiling to herself. “Are you okay?” she asked playfully when she finally sat up.
He smiled and turned back around. “That was getting a bit…”
Spencer squeezed her nose cutely, interrupting him. “Yeah…”
“Yeah.” They both laughed, and Toby let out a sigh. Spencer sat there and watched him, wondering how on Earth she’d been so lucky.
