Rise
"Look, you all have the right to hate me, but I saved Jack's life and want deviants like me to be free!" I exclaimed frantically, biting my lip and holding my breath as the deviants whispered amongst each other.
"How do we know you're not lying?" The deviant holding the gun spoke up warily, prodding me in the head with the weapon.
"If I wasn't deviant, I would've let the police kill everyone instead of trying to save your lives." I pointed out, the deviants conferring once more.
"But you brought the police to us."
"Fine, but we're watching you." The armed deviant growled threateningly, sticking the gun they had stolen from me into the waistband of their pants before roughly pulling me up to my feet.
"You got us into this mess, now you're going to get us out of it." The deviant directed, shoving me to the front of the group.
"There's an exit that leads to the LA plaza, that would be our best bet to get out of here." I thought aloud, walking forward with the other deviants reluctantly trailing behind.
"Wait!" I called out as I abruptly froze in my tracks, listening to the noises emanating from above us on the surface.
Screams and gunshots echoed around us, encouraging me to pick up the pace so I could join the fight.
Once we got to the exit, I motions for everyone to wait as I poked my head out to see what was happening.
Everything had fallen deathly quiet, Jack and Tyler watching the deviant I had failed to capture earlier hold Amy hostage.
"Anti, let her go, please." Jack pleaded with the brown haired deviant that looked identical to him, taking a step towards them.
"I'm tired of watching everyone I care about die, I'm tired of being treated like I'm shit, I'm tired of going in fucking circles!" Anti snapped, tightening his hold on Amy.
Tears silently rolled down her cheeks, her brown eyes closed and her body shaking slightly.
"Things like this will make the humans think that we don't deserve freedom, just let the human go Anti." Jack persuaded.
"If I let her go, will you give us our freedom?" Anti asked Lieutenant Schied warily, the hand holding the knife wavering slightly.
"Yes." Lieutenant Schied answered with a nod, but in his steely eyes I could tell that he was lying.
Anti hesitated before letting Amy go, watching her run to Lieutenant Schied's side while sobbing before an officer stepped in and took her away to console her.
Lieutenant Schied aimed his gun at Anti and pulled the trigger before anyone could react, the bullet embedding itself into Anti's chest.
The deviant staggered back in surprise, falling to his knees as Jack and the other deviants identical to him ran to Anti's side.
"I will only ask once more. Surrender, or we will kill every last one of you and end this deviant revolution for good." Lieutenant Schied commanded softly.
"Hello Lieutenant!"
Lieutenant Schied's attention shifted to me as I emerged from the tunnels with the other deviants, Jack looking up at me with a surprised expression.
"Mark, what the hell are you doing?!" Lieutenant shouted, lowering his gun as he turned to look at me.
"I can't let you kill them Lieutenant, they just want freedom!" I called back, walking towards the male.
"You've changed Mark, what happened?" Tyler replied, standing his ground as I stopped a few feet away from him.
"I opened my eyes Lieutenant." I stated simply, clasping my hands behind my back.
"I knew you changed ever since you reset." Lieutenant Schied murmured, his voice barely audible.
"Reset?" I repeated in confusion.
"You were my partner before you turned deviant, you saved Ethan and I's lives in a terrorist mission. Then Matt took you back and reset you, and I never saw you again until you walked into that gym." Lieutenant Schied admitted.
My mind whirled with thoughts as I stepped back to try and process the new information, my gaze catching the gleam of something up on the rooftop.
Time seemed to slow down to a crawl as I watched a red laser sight appear on Jack's head, giving me little time to choose what to do.
I analyzed the situation and left out a relieved sigh when I saw that Jack's survival rate was a solid ninety-nine percent, but I still had a choice to make.
Stay with Jack?
Go after sniper?
