Chapter 18

The moment Hoseok entered the cafe, Biseok hid behind Jungah. Hoseok stared guiltily and stood awkwardly at the entrance. Jungah noticed the tension between those two but didn't know what actions to take to ease the situation.

Fortunately, Seokjin came out at the perfect timing.

"Want some cake instead of blocking the entrance?"

Hoseok gave a sheepish smile while Biseok's eyes sparkled when he heard the word 'cake'.

Jungah and Hoseok shared a table while Seokjin led Biseok stay at the counter and fed him the cake. It was actually a distraction so that the two friends could have a time together.

"Looks like your son had really grown," Jungah was the first to break the silence.

Hoseok looked up at her but Jungah was staring at Biseok.

The way the boy was giggling and the way his smile radiated the entire room warmed her heart.

"He's just like you," she added.

"Jungah.., I didn't mean to hide him away."

"I know," she sighed and gave Hoseok a warm smile, "Times are hard, sunshine. It's okay to keep a secret or two."

Hoseok stared at his cake with a frown. He had never been the good father. He always left him with the housemaid. Hae was busy with her own company and his father had to take care of his own. Even when, he was back at home, he didn't spare a glance at the child. He didn't mean any of those but it just ached his heart whenever he saw the little boy. It reminded him of that dreadful night where his life shattered so easily like a piece of glass.

"Biseok needs a better father," Hoseok swallowed his saliva thickly. It was hard to form words.

"What's a better father than his own?"

"You don't understand, princess. I'm not capable-"

"Then, learn to be one," she cut him off.

She continued, "A certain someone told me that it's important to spend the time together or you will regret it in the future."

Hoseok processed those words and glanced at Biseok who was playing with Seokjin. He wondered if he was really capable of such role.

"Think of how Hae stayed with you," Jungah reminded.

Hoseok's eyes softened upon hearing his fiancée's name.

"I'm not the one for you, sunshine. You know how fate plays and love fades but hers never wavered a slight bit. I want you to reconsider everything. She didn't do anything wrong. Neither did your son."

The ride back to Jung residence was really quiet and awkward. Hoseok tapped on the steering wheel while Biseok looked out of the window.

"How was school?"

"It's was fun!" Biseok beamed excitedly but his smile weakened when he remembered who he was talking to.

"I-I mean it was alright, sir," he corrected while feeling scared that he might get scolded although he had never even once talked with the other before. He had always received the cold treatment and became thrilled when his father actually spoke to him.

"Biseok?"

The boy hummed.

"Call me Appa."

Biseok's eyes grew bigger and he was surprised.

"I-I can?"

Hoseok chuckled lightly and nodded his head.

"You are my son, Biseok. I know I'm not the type of father you would want but I'll try my best for you."

Biseok gasped and suddenly shouted, "You are the best father I could ever ask for!"

Hoseok was shocked by the boy's confidence and ended up breaking into huge laughter. Biseok wondered what was so funny as he didn't tell a joke.

"Thank you, Biseok. Thank you so much for understanding."

It was rather late by the time Hoseok arrived back home. When he went inside, he was greeted by worried faces of his father and fiancée.

The two were slightly astonished by the sight of Hoseok carrying sleeping Biseok.

Hae rushed to take over but Hoseok stopped her.

"It's fine. I'll go and place him on his bed. But I need to say something so please remain here," Hoseok requested before he excused himself to Biseok's room.

••••••••••••••••••<>••••••••••••••••••

Honestly, Hoseok was still contemplating. He was unsure which was the right thing to do. He gently placed Biseok on the bed.

"Appa," Biseok mumbled in his sleep which caused Hoseok to smile.

He took his time to study the room. It was the first time he had actually been to the room. He walked around and stopped at the study table. He noticed a few drawings and picked them up.

They were drawings of him and Biseok holding hands.

Hoseok knew then that he had only one thing to do. With a determined mind, he went back to the living room.

Jungah helped Seokjin out until the cafe closed. The other needed the help since Yoongi was away and the cafe was packed.

Seokjin gifted Jungah a box of macarons for helping him. She refused to accept it but the constant buzzing and the stubbornness made her gave up eventually.

She returned back home safe and sound. Her brother had yet to return but she knew it must've been cause he had to perform at Jimin's bar.

She took a quick bath and changed into a comfortable outfit for the night. Her phone chimed to inform her that she had received a message. She checked it and learned that it was from Hoseok.

She was glad to know that everything was doing fine on his side. She placed her phone on the table and her hands travelled to the drawer.

She pulled it out and a brown envelope was revealed. She heaved a sigh and took it out. With a heavy heart, she opened it once again.

Pictures fell out with a letter. She wished those were never true. She wished he had denied but it was the opposite.

There were too many happy moments that made those memories scar her heart. If there was none, everything would've been easier.

••••••••••••••••••<Flashback>••••••••••••••••••

Jungah sat in the cafe with her laptop switched on. It was those times when she had gained inspiration to write stories.

She hadn't debut yet. She was just a college student, majoring in korean literature who dreamed of being an author one day. She diligently wrote everyday. She didn't have a theme or a specific story but she just wanted to write something.

She had always sent it to the Kim publishing company but never once received a reply. She wondered if her works were that bad.

She took her cup to get a refill and stood up. However, she didn't know that there was someone heading towards her and the two ended up bumping into each other.

She gasped as her leftover coffee had spilled on the white cotton shirt of the other person.

"I-I'm so sorry," she apologised with a bow and earned a chuckle from the other.

She looked up and blushed when she was met with his beautiful eyes. She looked down and fiddled with the hem of her shirt. It was the man who was regularly at the cafe. She had grown a slight crush over him as days passed by and that was one of the reason why she chose that cafe to work on her assignments or just simply grab a cup of coffee.

Basically, she just wanted to see him.

"It's alright. I see you with your laptop everyday. What are you up to?"

"Excuse me?"

The other chuckled again which caused Jungah's heart to skip a beat.

"What are you typing so earnestly in your laptop?"

"I don't think you should be prying on other's person matters," Jungah blurted out.

She gasped and covered her mouth when she realised what she had said. The person stared at her and ended up laughing out this time. She was too embarrassed but she couldn't understand why the other wasn't angry at her.

"Here," he gave a business card to her and she blinked as she took it.

She read it, 'Kim Namjoon, director of Kim Publishing Company.'

Jungah was bewildered by the card and looked at Namjoon who smiled at her fondly with his dimples appearing to add to his charms.

"I really enjoyed your works. Write a proper novel and submit it. I would love to have it published."

••••••••••••••••••<End>••••••••••••••••••

A tear rolled down Jungah's cheeks and she wiped it away with her sleeve. However, it didn't stop. She didn't know why looking at those pictures bring back those memories. She would've preferred those horrible memories instead of beautiful ones.

"It's not fair that you get to appear in my life like that and leave like I was not important when we clearly had something between us."
