Chapter Seventeen
Raichand Mansion, Delhi
Yash and Sonia's Room
Yash is sitting in his armchair and reading the business magazine when his phone rings. He places the magazine aside and grabs his phone to answer the call.
Hearing the news, Yash gets to his feet and demands in shock, "What? Armaan left for LA in the morning? Are you sure?"
He disconnects the call after getting the confirmation and sits back in his chair. He sighs and rubs his temples to ease the stress lines.
Though a familiar voice doesn't allow him to relax, "So, Armaan left Kavya alone within two days."
He turns to find Sonia, standing near the door of their room with disappointing clear in her eyes. She walks closer and Yash lowers his gaze while playing with his phone edges.
Sonia asks in a fake polite tone, "Mr. Raichand, your son left his newly wedded wife alone at his Mansion within two days of their marriage. Where did your expert planning fail?"
Yash keeps his gaze lowered and explains, "Sonia, I didn't expect him to-"
Sonia cuts him off by accusing, "Expect? How can you expect when you know your son's nature? How do you expect after knowing he has lost faith in relationships long back?"
Yash stands to face his wife and retorts, "I was trying to change my son, damn it. I was trying to convert the loneliness in Armaan's life into happiness."
Sonia demands in response, "So, it got converted? You succeeded in changing your son."
Yash lowers his gaze, unable to respond, and Sonia accuses, "You ruined an innocent life, Yash. I told you, Armaan is unable to give time to Kavya, so postpone the marriage, a few weeks will not harm."
He faces her, and she continues, "I told you, if you want this marriage to work, then it is compulsory to develop concern for Kavya in Armaan's heart. He should understand the meaning of marriage and a life partner. But you were stubborn at your place and allowed this marriage to happen."
He argues, "I was not stubborn, Sonia. I believe, one day everything will be fine. Kavya isn't a random choice, I have spent three months in thinking before taking this decision."
Sonia stares at him in disbelief, "You believe, one day everything will be fine? Yash, you have practically punished Kavya for our mistakes made in the past. We made Armaan arrogant, not Kavya."
She moves away and states, "I will never forgive myself for agreeing with you at the first place. No one deserves to be used in this way, Kavya will suffer for our wrong deeds."
Yash moves closer and places his hands over her shoulders before explaining, "Sonia, I know you are angry because I didn't listen to you and I understand your concern for Kavya. But believe me, everything will be fine one day. Kavya and Armaan will live a happy married life. It's just the matter of time."
Sonia stares at her husband in disbelief and shrugs away his hands from her shoulder. She turns to walk away, ignoring her husband's pleas to believe in him.
Armaan's Mansion, Mumbai
At 8:30 pm, Kavya enters the dining room, wearing a designer black sari. Her hairs are open, and she is wearing diamond jewellery along with her Mangalsutra.
Kavya finds Mary, arranging the food bowl and plates systematically over the table. She walks closer, grabbing her attention and Mary gazes her attire.
Mary compliments with a smile, "You look gorgeous, Mrs. Raichand."
Kavya states, "Please call me Kavya."
Mary nods with a smile and asks, eyeing the table, "Is everything up to the mark?"
Kavya replies, "Yes, thanks for the help."
Mary nods in response and informs, "I have asked the servants to stay in their quarters, so you and Armaan can get the privacy."
Kavya nods and Mary turns to walk towards the servant's quarters.
Kavya takes a deep breath and prepares herself for the dinner. She didn't know how she will initiate the conversation. What will she say or ask? What she should expect from Armaan? Will he think of them as a couple now?
A part of her fears, remembering her outburst last night and thinks, what if Armaan is disappointed with her. In her anger, she had addressed him with inappropriate, yet insulting titles, which would have hurt him.
Though her another part debates, it was her right to be furious. Only because his father blackmailed him, he has no right to ruin someone's life. He should have attempted to find a solution for once, instead of surrendering to his father's order.
Yet no amount of argument stops her heart from overpowering her senses. She feels guilty for throwing those harsh words on the man, she loves and has accepted as her husband from the beginning itself.
Kavya remains engrossed with her unsettled thoughts and plans, how to initiate the conversation to find a remedy.
9:30 pm
Even after one hour, Kavya is waiting for Armaan to return. She often checks the time at the antique watch, hanging on the wall at her right and wonders, what is taking him so long.
She even debates with herself to call Armaan, but decides to wait for some more time.
11 pm
Mary makes her way towards the dining room when she learns from the security guard, Armaan hasn't returned home. This worries her for Kavya and she decides to check on her.
She finds Kavya, sleeping on the chair with her head resting on her arms, crossed over the table.
Mary rushes to Kavya and wakes her up, "Kavya, dear, get up."
Kavya opens her eyes and whispers, "Armaan."
But she realises Mary has woken her and searches for Armaan by glancing around, only to find the room empty.
She faces Mary and asks, "Did he arrive?"
Mary observes the hope in her eyes and answers, "No Kavya, he has not yet returned."
Kavya shifts her gaze to the watch to check the time and murmurs, "Its 11 pm."
Kavya grabs her phone and didn't think now before dialling Armaan's number.
But she learns his phone is switched off. She tries again in hope and receives the same response.
She informs in a depressed voice, "His phone is switched off."
Mary frowns and informs, "It's strange, he never switches off his phone. Maybe he is busy in a meeting or some important work."
Kavya enquires, "Do you have his office number?"
Mary nods and provides her with RGC's number. Kavya dials it and Mary calls Rihan to ask regarding Armaan's arrival. But even Rihan's number says switched off and no one answers the call in the office.
Kavya lowers her gaze in sadness as she was expecting him to return early, so they can talk regarding their marriage.
But he chose to keep his distance, killing the one chance, she convinced herself to give Armaan and this relationship.
Mary scrutinises Kavya's state of mind and searches for Armaan's other employees' numbers in her phone to ask for his whereabouts. She doesn't want the one chance to slip from their hands.
After dialling a few numbers, Mary calls Armaan's driver, who answers after two rings.
Mary asks, "This is Mary, can I know where Armaan is?"
The driver informs, "I had dropped Armaan Sir at the airport in the morning."
Mary asks with a frown, "Airport?"
This grabs Kavya's attention and she turns to face Mary, who is listening to the driver.
Mary murmurs, "Oh God" and disconnects the call.
Kavya moves closer and enquires, "What happened?"
Mary hesitates before informing, "Armaan has left for Los Angeles this morning for a project."
Kavya freezes at her spot in shock and stares in a daze as the harsh realisation hits her senses.
She whispers, "He abandoned me."
Mary watches Kavya taking a step back as her eyes remains focused on the floor and well up with tears.
Kavya stammers in a croaky voice, "Armaan...Armaan Raichand used and abandoned me."
Mary moves closer, as the painful tears starts escaping from Kavya's eyes. But Kavya takes another step back, while gazing the floor and didn't allow Mary to touch her.
Kavya moves her hand to pluck her left earring and blabbers with a heavy heart, "He married me only....only to receive his desired benefits."
Kavya continues to gaze the floor as she removes other earring, while crying and continues, "He used me to achieve what he wanted....and now..."
Mary's eyes moistens, witnessing the pain and hurt in Kavya's teary eyes, but she was helpless.
Kavya takes another step back as Mary approaches her and she faces Mary to inform, "Now....now I am useless for him..."
Mary tries to hold a vulnerable Kavya in her arm, but she steps back and cries louder.
Kavya shutters, while walking backwards, "I am useless for him....so, he dump....dumped me...he threw me out of his...his life."
Mary gets a hold on Kavya's hand and pulls her closer to console, "No, dear. He didn't-"
Kavya glares at Mary and interrupts, while releasing her hand, "Yes, he did."
She throws her earrings aimlessly on the floor and yells in pain, "He used and threw me."
A lone tear escapes from Mary's eye and she tries to pull Kavya closer to give a comforting hug. But Kavya escapes from Mary's grip and moves towards the dining table.
Kavya pushes a chair aside in anger and starts throwing plates, bowls and everything which was laid on the table. Tears blur Kavya's vision, though she didn't stop and continues to throw whatever she gets in her hand.
Her eyes held tears of her pain with anger, but not towards Armaan.
She is furious towards herself for loving a selfish person, who didn't even show humanity towards her. Instead he showed his ruthless side, which killed every ounce of affection residing in her heart for him and their relationship.
Her hearts now holds hatred and disgust for Armaan with sorrow for her broken dreams.
Kavya screams in pain with teary eyes, while throwing a glass, "I was USED."
Mary advances towards Kavya and takes a hold of her hand, preventing her from throwing another glass on the floor.
Mary pulls Kavya in a motherly embrace and explains, "Kavya stop, you will hurt yourself."
Kavya struggles to escape from her hold, while crying, only to make Mary tighten her grip around her. She pats Kavya's head softly to calm her.
Kavya struggles and yells, "He used me and threw away."
Mary consoles her while patting her head, "Kavya, dear, please calm down."
Kavya cries, while struggling for some time. But slowly falls on her knees with Mary's arms wrapped around her shoulders.
Kavya drops the glass on the floor and wraps her arms around Mary. She weeps in her arms and Mary pats her head in a soothing manner.
Kavya blabbers in a low, depressed voice, "He used me....he used me."
Mary fails to console her as she knew Armaan has committed a huge mistake by vanishing without any intimation.
Though he was blackmailed, he shouldn't treat Kavya in this way. He should respect his wife at the least.
Suddenly Kavya pushes Mary away to escape from her embrace and stands on her feet. She rushes towards the staircase while wiping the tears with the back of her hand. Mary stares at Kavya in shock and rushes after her.
Kavya climbs the stairs and runs towards her room. Mary follows behind, but due to her low physique, she couldn't meet Kavya's speed and fails to stop her.
She watches from a distance, Kavya enters her room with tears flowing continuously from her eyes and shuts the door behind.
Mary reaches the door and bangs while pleading for Kavya to open the door, but in response she could only hear her painful sobs.
Kavya's Room
Kavya is sitting on the floor, embracing her knees with her back resting on the bed. She weeps, recollecting how her perfect and happy life has instantly turned upside down.
She hears Mary's pleas from outside but didn't respond to any and keeps shedding the painful tears.
Kavya wipes her cheek, when the ring on her right thumb grabs her attention. She stares at the ring and remembers the day of her graduation when Ranveer gifted her that ring.
FLASHBACK
Kapoor Mansion, Delhi
Kavya and Myra's Room
Nimrit and Myra try to calm a weeping Kavya, who has ruined her make-up with her tears.
Today is the day, when she was graduated and a family gathering was held to celebrate it, but something spoiled their beautiful moment.
Myra requests, "Didu, please stop crying, you know how she is."
Nimrit strokes Kavya's hair and explains, "Kavu, you shouldn't bother for her words."
But Kavya keeps crying and hugs her knees close to her chest.
Nimrit and Myra share a helpless look and wait for Ranveer to return from office. They know, only he can handle Kavya.
Their wait comes to an end when the door of their room opens. They shift their gaze to find a happy Ranveer, dancing without a worry of his surroundings.
Ranveer yells in excitement, "Time to party all ni..."
He trails off, observing the serious atmosphere and makes his way towards the bed, where the ladies are seated.
Worry and fear washes over his face, when he finds tears in Kavya's eyes and cups her face in his hands.
Ranveer asks, "What happened Princess?"
Nimrit gestures Myra to move aside, so Ranveer can handle Kavya and stop her sobs.
Ranveer takes his place next to Kavya and asks with concern, "What happened Princess?"
Kavya hugs her father and asks, while facing him with teary eyes, "Are you ashamed of me? Am I not a good daughter?"
Ranveer stares back in surprise and asks, "What nonsense? Which idiot said you are not a good daughter?"
Kavya lowers her gaze and didn't answer his question.
But an angry Nimrit does answer, "Your lovely sister, Raveena said these words for my daughter."
Myra fails to control the giggles from escaping her mouth, seeing Ranveer's surprised face.
Ranveer shifts his gaze back to Kavya and demands in confusion, "But why did she say these words?"
Kavya wipes her tears and answers in a low voice, "Because I decided to join an NGO instead of Kapoor office. She said, I am not a good daughter and everyone is ashamed of me."
Ranveer rolls his eyes at his sister's low mentality and faces his daughter, who is still shedding tears.
Ranveer caresses her arm with his hand in a soothing manner and takes her both hands in another.
Ranveer explains, "Kavu, you shouldn't bother for what people comment. Everyone has separate views and according to that, they judge people."
Kavya meets Ranveer's gaze and listens to him attentively, "Now I have a thinking, people should work hard to earn a living. But you wish to help needy people so they could earn a living. See in one house, we own two different opinions, then in the world there are millions of people and their millions of thinking."
Ranveer smiles warmly and continues, "And what you are doing is a better job. Working for your family is easy and mandatory, but working for others by keeping your benefits aside is the most difficult task. Not everyone can manage that."
Kavya stares at her father, who nods with an impressive smile to confirm his own words and continues, "Not everyone can leave the opportunity to work in a well-established company and choose a profession to struggle for others."
Ranveer grins and informs, "You know, I feel so proud when I tell my relatives and friends, my daughter is going to work for needy people and make them happy."
Kavya demands with teary eyes, "Really?"
Ranveer nods to confirm and states in a serious tone, "Kavu, you could have asked for a luxurious office, which I can give to you easily. But you chose to work in an NGO where I doubt if the ceiling fans will work properly."
Kavya shifts her gaze to her mother to confirm and finds the same amount of pride in her eyes as her father owns.
She shifts her gaze back to her father who states, "You are my strong daughter who has always handled everything with confidence and maturity. You have always made me and your mother proud. So how can you think we are ashamed of you?"
Ranveer asks Nimrit, "Nimrit, did we ever thought Kavu or even Myra is wrong or they have disappointed us?"
Nimrit shakes her head and smiles at Kavya as she faces her mother.
Ranveer asks Myra, "Have I ever stopped you or your Didu from doing anything?"
Myra shakes her head and smiles at Kavya, when she shifts her gaze to her sister.
Ranveer then faces Kavya to inform, "Do you know how much I adore you and Myra? How much I trust the both of you and never worry about any circumstances because I know you two can handle everything."
Ranveer tightens his grip around her shoulder and states with confidence, "Kavu, you both are my two strong pillars who can never even budge if placed in difficult situations. You both are strong and qualified enough to manage anything without being weak or helpless."
Ranveer states with confidence overpowering his tone, "And I am 100% sure, you will never fail in any challenge, life will throw at you in future."
Ranveer plants a kiss on Kavya forehead and states encouragingly, "So now stop crying. I didn't raise cry-babies, I have raised two strong pillars? Myra Kapoor and?"
Ranveer asks again with more encouragement, "And?"
PRESENT TIME

Kavya wipes her tears and speaks with confidence, "KAVYA RANVEER KAPOOR."
