The sky was still sunny and bright as the three men waited for Sully's contact on the tiled ground outside the Palace of Montjuic. Dante had his camera around his neck and was leaning against the stone railings as he took a few shots of the city spanning out below and around them. He had changed his flight clothes in the visitor toilets and was now wearing a pair of black cargo trousers with a white tshirt. A denim jacket hanging from his shoulders as the breeze tugged at his curls. Sully was scanning the paths through his sunglasses while Nate took in the view. "Say cheese", Dante alerted. Nate grinned and threw up a peace sign as Sully turned away. The camera clicked and the two men were immortalised in the sun with the city of Barcelona spreading out around them.
"Anything you need in Barcelona and Chloe Frazer can get it", Sully continued, ignoring as Dante snapped a few more photos. Nate grinning in one before returning his attention to the older man's words.
"Your contact is Frazer?" Dante scowled.
"Got a problem North?" Sully asked, raising an eyebrow.
"Nope", Dante muttered as he fiddled with his camera. "We may have parted on bad terms last time. She may not be happy to see me".
"Damn right", a female voice greeted as a tanned woman in a red dress served around some tourists and stopped a few feet away. Chloe's eyes were lined with eyeliner, making them even darker than even Dante's black gaze. Her hair was shorter than it had been since he had last seen it. She eyed the curly haired male up and down, before flicking her gaze towards Nate and Sully. "You owe me two hundred dollars you motherfucker", she snapped, punching Dante solidly in the arm. "That hotel room was expensive and I can't believe you smashed that lamp".
Dante grinned. "It was a good nigh though, right? We had a good time, didn't we?"
Chloe's lips twitched as she snorted. "Nice try North. Hey Sully, who's this?"
Nate was frowning at the two of them but he stuck his hand out in greeting. "I'm Nate. I'm a friend of Sully's, and North's". There was a second of hesitation before he said Dante's name, as if he was wondering how to refer to him. Dante nodded at the use of his surname and Nate relaxed.
Chloe scoffed. "Sully doesn't have any friends. I should know, I'm one of them". North sniggered as she then gestured at him. "And this reckless bastard only has fuck buddies and people can annoy".
"Is that what you are? Fuck buddies?" Nate asked, eyes flickering between the girl and boy.
"Once", Chloe lifted her gaze to meet Dante's. The curly haired male grinned, the scar through his eyebrow twisting at the movement. "But not anymore. This one can't show any vulnerability without dying. Makes for a shitty relationship".
"You wound me Clo", Dante tilted his head and snapped ha picture of her unamused face on his camera.
"Ouch", Sully commented. "So enough of your shitty breakup. Why the spy games? Why couldn't we meet at the house?"
"I was making sure you weren't followed".
"Oh come on", Sully looked offended. "You don't think I can't spot a tail? Not even with North in the car?"
"I've been on you since the airport", Chloe stated. Sully turned betrayed eyes to Dante, who shrugged.
"Who do you think I was shouting abuse at through the car window earlier? Not another driver? Road rage is a waste of my time. Also, if you had told me that she was your contact, then I might have told you. I though no secrets".
"Look, it doesn't matter, why is he here?" Chloe waved a hand at Nate. The man had his hands in his pockets and was watching the exchange with a confused but amused expression.
"Why am I here?" Nate repeated.
"Clearly you didn't tell him", Dante huffed.
"Chloe has the other cross", Sully admitted. "What? Did I not mention that?"
"No you didn't".
"Are you sure? It's mine, basically, alright?" Chloe and Dante exchanged rolled eyes as they waited for Sully and Nate to finish.
"So who is he?" She asked.
"Nate Drake. Sam's brother", Dante replied. "Sam's gone missing". Her face furrowed into a frown before smoothing out as Nate turned back to them.
"We're all partners on this. That's the way it's happening so get used to it", Sully declared.
"I'm included on this partnership too", Dante spoke up.
"No, we're not", Chloe snapped. "Look, word to the unwise, everything out of this one's mouth", she jerked her head at Sully, "is an exaggeration, a half-truth or an outright lie".
"That is not true", Sully sounded dramatically offended.
"And this one", Chloe continued, nodding her head at Dante. "He will take every single piece of warmth you'll give him and never return any of it. He can't commit to anything, a partner, a place. He'll just use you to warm his bed and be gone before the sun rises, most likely with your money too".
"Woah", Dante frowned. "Harsh. I never stop from you. I don't steal from the people I sleep with".
"You took my favourite knife. Where even is it?"
Apology filled Dante's face. "I may have lost it when shipwreck diving in the Caribbean. Sorry". He dodged as Chloe made to punch his arm again, stepping round so that Sully was between them.
"Chloe", Sully raised his hands as if to pacify her. But Chloe just smiled and walked away.
"See ya Sully", She called behind her.
"Not going to say bye to me?" Dante called. He got a raised middle finger in reply and chuckled.
"She'll come back, she has too", Sully spoke. A few seconds went by and Chloe kept walking. "She's not coming back. Where's the cross?"
"In my bag", Nate replied.
"Check it now". The younger man pulled his backpack from his shoulders and hurriedly unzipped it. Other than the journal and some clothes, it was empty.
"Oh shit", Dante whistled. "You should catch up to her". Nate shoved the backpack into his hands, Dante almost dropping his camera to grab it, and took off running. The curly haired man stood with Sully as they watched Chloe notice the pursuer. She broke into a run and the chase began.
"You'd better get that cross back!" Sully called as the two of them leapt over the railings and not the roof below. Then he paused and turned to Dante, who was watching the chase through the lens of his camera. "Shall we meet them in the carpark?"
"Lead the way", Dante grinned as they headed towards the stairs leading to a much quicker journey to the car park below. They reached the bustling concrete just as Chloe almost ran Nate over. The man now soaking wet due to an unfortunate trip in the fountain.
"Listen! You don't know where you're going with them keys! Look, you're looking for a tree right?" Nate was standing in front go her car, hands on the bonnet as she reeved the engine.
"Piss off!" Chloe shouted through the window. She jerked the car forwards and Nate stumbled as he was pushed back.
"Listen to me! The eighteen were willing to wait years to go back for the gold. They wouldn't have picked a tree as the marker. They would have picked something more permanent".
"Give us an example", Dante voiced as he jogged over to stand next to the man. He grinned at Nate. "Hiya Nate. Did you go for a swim?"
"You're full of shit!" Chloe glared at them.
"Hey", Sully strolled over. "She knows where to use the keys, so she doesn't need us, right?" He held out his hands as Nate and Dante stepped back from the car.
"Okay, be my guest, get out of here", Nate waved her away. She scowled at them from behind the wheel.
"Dante", Sully voiced as the car began to pull away. "Where are the crosses?"
"Huh?" Nate glanced at Dante's innocent expression. The car jerked to a stop.
"You bastard", Chloe snarled as she jumped out of the driver's seat, one hand grabbing at her bag. It opened to reveal nothing.
"Dante?" Nate asked, mouth twitching with the desire to laugh. He chuckled, giving in as Dante grinned and gave the man a wink. Camera hanging from his neck, he reached into the inside of his denim jacket and pulled out the golden cross tipped in red jewels. Chloe fumed visibly as with a even wider grin, he reached into the other side of his jacket and pulled out a copy of the first cross, except this one was tipped in blue jewels. Nate ran a hand over his face as he shook his head in amusement. "So you let me chase her down and get soaked when you had the crosses the whole time?"
"I didn't exactly get the chance to stop you", Dante shrugged. "Also wet white tshrit looks good on you".
Sully sighed as Chloe crossed her arms. "If it's not a tree, then what is it?" She gritted her teeth.
Nate crossed his arms, a cocky smirk on his lips. Dante thought it looked very attractive on him. "At the auction house, Moncada called it an 'Alter crucifix'. I didn't think about nit then but it means that the cross was originally made to stand on an alter". He held out his hands and Dante tossed the red tipped cross over. Nate caught it and the gold glinted in the sun. He beamed at them. "A church".
Chloe turned her glare to Sully and Dante. Nate's grinned faded into a frown. "Wow, you guys never stop do you? Look, if we want to get the gold then we are going to have to learn to trust each other".
"I can work with that", Dante smiled as he twisted the blue cross in his hands.
"Give that back". Chloe stormed over and snatched it from his hands. The curly haired boy just stepped back and held his hands up in surrender.
"So", he glanced around at their group of now four. "Which church then Nate?"
