7.Fighting for the fire.
"Fighting for the fire, wait for the light. Gotta be brave cause I need you here."
What was once a blackish Brown...
Was now a bright blue.
They even glowed a little.
"Nat... Your eyes..."
"Yeah, they sting. That's why I didn't wanna open them. They sting less now though." He commented nonchalantly.
"No... Nat you eye's are-"
"Look, I ship you guys and all, but I'm trying to sleep before I have to run away from angels tomorrow... so could you please keep it down and go to sleep." Kenz piped up from the other side of the miniature cave.
"Sorry kenz." I apologised.
"Tell me in the morning, 'kay Lex?" With that Nat rolled over and fell back to sleep.
I lay awake all night. Sleep would not visit me. Not with the picture of Nat's blue eyes still vivid in my mind.
Even though it didn't get lighter outside, Kenz's fire went out a while ago. That's how I knew that a lot of time had passed.
'...I'm hungry...'
If I was hungry now, then Nat and Kenz might be when they wake up. So, I thought it my best interest to go out see if there was anything in the forest. I wouldn't kill an animal... just look for fruits.
I wrote them a note in the dirt at theentrance of the cave then left.
It still looked like night when I crawled outside, but I guess that it's always night here. If the angels were harmed by fire... then they would be purely night creatures. Sun wouldn't be in this world. Which brings the question... how did Kenz get the fire stick? I'd have to ask her when I went back.
((A/N: She got the fire stick from Amazon XD... I'll just leave now...))
As I continued to walk, I could hear something in the distance. When I got closer I could tell that it was Jewel and Amber talking to each other. I quickly hid behind a tree.
I did not need to run at this moment in time.
"So that's where the angels want to keep him?" Jewel asked.
'Were they talking about Jae?'
"Yes. They are keeping him entrapped on the bottom island. That's where Jaely was going to put his mate too whilst she was adjusting to his soul magic." Amber responded, bored with the topic.
"Well... I guess we're lucky. Only angel magic can get through that barrier, and those kids have not got any." Jewel placed her thumb and forefinger to her chin.
"I guess... I can tell that all of them have magic... but that girl... Jaely's girl..."
I tried to hold in my gag reflex at being referred to as 'Jaely's girl'.
"What about her?" Jewel asked, pushing a strand of her brown hair behind her pointed Angel ear.
'I didn't notice those before...'
"Her magic power is so contaminated... I can't tell what it is." Amber admitted.
'Is it because I'm a mimic?... I guess I would have different powers mixing, or rather, masking my true power.' I thought to myself.
Amber and Jewel continued walking through the forest. I decided to follow them, they might lead me to Jae...
As they walked through the forest they continued to talk about mundane things like the gossip of the other angels.
Then it happened.
I, my foolish self, stept on a twig and broke it.
Amber and Jewel turned to face my direction. Still hidden by the trees I stood absolutely still.
'Please just think it was a Fox and move on...'
I wished that I could of used my mind control to send them elsewhere... but I was still sleep deprived.
'Gee, I wish I could use my powers when I really needed them.' I rolled my eyes in annoyance with myself.
After a while I heard them begin to walk in my direction.
"Get out here now. We know you're there. Jaely's girl." Amber called out.
'If she knew who I was then why didn't she find me before?'
"I could tell that something was following us, but now that we're closer to you I can sense you." She cackled.
'Oh.'
As they got closer to me I began to get more desperate. Soon enough, when the footsteps were only inches away, I ran for it.
"Jewel!" Amber called.
I turned around to see Amber hold out her arm.
It may have been dangerous to run without looking, but I wanted to see what was going to happen. What was going to come.
It was like a flash of dark gold. Jewel transformed...
Into a bow and arrow.
That bow and arrow also ended up in Amber's, outstretched, hand.
'Shit.'
.
.
.
I forced my legs to run faster, using as much energy as I could, and then some more.
'This is bad! I have to make it back to Nat and Kenz, but I can't lead these two to our hide out!' I panicked, running out of ideas. I couldn't keep running forever. My heart felt like it was gonna burst any second now, and lactic acid was already burning my legs from the inside out.
'If I'd had taken the time to remember how dad's power worked, I wouldn't be in this predicament right now...'
The first arrow was shot and Jewel slit my upper arm as as he passed.
I would have thought that that would be the only pain, but it quickly began to spread. I fell to my knees on the ground in agony. It was as if there was poisonous acid replacing my blood and pumping through my veins.
It burned. My blood burned me from the inside out. The acid like feeling spread so quickly and soon I began to cough up blood. I would have mad a comment on the metallic taste in my mouth, but it was numb.
My whole body was numb.
I only knew what I was touching if I could see it right in front of me.
And would you guess the stroke of luck I had?
I blacked out.
Perfect.
