It's not that she hated him, no Katarina San thought Leo Valdez was quite brilliant. He managed to make light out of the darkest situations — sometimes literally — and he was that intolerable, he miraculously made holding up the sky look like plain sailing. Ask Kat, she had first hand experience at that sort of thing.

Maybe, if he hadn't charmed her with his stupid smile, hate would be the exact word to describe how Katarina felt when Leo invaded her personal space, smelling of oil and completely ignorant to the effect he had on her heart.

Simply put, Katarina San is very much in love but with the Prophecy looming over her head, tempting her with an opportunity to prove herself to her father, Leo Valdez and his stupid smile are the least of Kat's concerns... At least, that's what she tells him.

🗡️ are we surprised? absolutely not. i'm currently about half way through mark of athena and i've been planning this since i started the lost hero. i love jason and piper but if the book didn't have leo i would have possibly dnfed the book before it got good.
🗡️ also i feel like i need to explain without spoiling... katarina and nick are ares' brain children (like annabeth) and they are twins.
🗡️ finally, kat and leo are a slow burner. no where near as long as percabeth but they aren't going to kiss at the end of the lost hero.
