Chapter 8
"I'm home." I called as I entered the house. "Welcome home, baby sister." Mikuni greeted. "Hi." I greeted back. "Where have you been?" Uncle Doubt Doubt asked. "Getting some blood." I answered. "I could've given you blood, Eiko." He said.
"I know, but you need your strength from Mikuni. But now that I think about it, he rarely gives you blood." I said, glancing at my brother with a blunt look. "That reminds me. Here you go, little sis," Mikuni went over to a high shelf and grabbed a doll.
"For you. A brand new doll." He said. "Thank you, Mikuni." I said as I accepted the doll. "Eiko." Uncle Doubt Doubt said. "Yes?"
"From now on, you're drinking blood from me. I can't have you risking your exposure like that." He said. "Okay." I replied. I went up to my room and went to close the door until I heard Mikuni and Uncle Doubt Doubt talking amongst themselves.
"Don't you think you were a bit hard on her, Jeje?"
"I don't think I was that harsh on her."
"From the tone of your voice, you sounded like you were angry at her."
"I wasn't."
"Does she know that?"
"......."
"Yeah, I thought so. Listen, Jeje. Eiko's a big girl. She can take care of herself."
"She's a vampire, Mikuni. You shouldn't have let her go to that human school. She could have attacked her fellow classmates."
"Now I know you care for her, Jeje-"
"She's my niece. I'm supposed to care for her."
"I'm not saying that you don't care for her. I'm just saying you could be a little gentle with her."
"You're the one to talk for someone who doesn't keep their promises."
I closed the door and sat on my bed, gazing up at my ceiling. "Man, they sure do sound like a married couple. That's a problem." I said. I looked out my window, seeing how dark it was. "I wonder if Uncle Doubt Doubt and Mikuni will let me go to the festival." I wondered.
It's supposed to take place the day after school lets out. I yawned before curling up on my bed and falling asleep.
The next morning, I groaned in annoyance as I heard knocking at my door. "Eiko, shouldn't you be getting ready for school? It's the last day of school, you know?" Mikuni mentioned as he opened the door.
"I don't wanna go to school today." I said, sleepily. "Are you sure? What if your friends start to wonder where you are?" He asked. "They don't care about me." I mumbled. "Oh, don't say that. What about your friend? Mahiru, was it?" He said.
I didn't reply as I kept my eyes closed. Mikuni sighed. "Well, I guess there's no point in trying to convince you, seeing how you won't change your mind. Well, I'm off. Look after the house for me. You want me to leave Jeje here with you?" He asked.
"You know you can't. I'll be fine, Mikuni. Besides, I have my dolls to keep me company." I said. "Okay. See you tonight." I heard him leave, closing the door behind him. I gazed out the window and closed one of my eyes as the sunlight got in my room.
"The sun's coming in. That's gonna be a problem." I mumbled. I got out of bed and went over to my window, closing the curtains. I went back to my bed and got under my covers. "If today's the last day of school, then that means tomorrow is summer break." I said.

"Eiko... Eiko~. Hey, Eiko. Wake up." I frowned slightly as I felt a finger poking my head. "You're back already, Mikuni?" I said, sleepily. "Open your eyes, Little Eiko."
"I thought I told you not to call me that." I said, opening my eyes. I expected to see Mikuni, but instead, I saw Tsubaki. "How did you get in my house, Tsubaki?" I asked, bluntly. "I just wanted to check on you." He said, smiling.
"Why? Did you think I was in trouble or something?" I asked. "No, nothing like that." He replied. He looked over at the window and walked over to it. "Why do you keep it so dark in here? It wouldn't hurt you to let a little light in." Tsubaki said as he pulled the curtains back.
I hissed and pulled the blanket over my head. "What's wrong with you?! Are you crazy?! I'm a vampire! You can't let that light in here! I'll die!" I said, dramatically. "Aren't you technically immortal?" Tsubaki asked, bluntly. "Okay, yeah. I am. But still." I said from under the covers.
"You're such a child, it's hilarious!" He laughed until he sighed. "It's not as funny anymore." He said. "Just what are you doing here, Tsubaki? If my brother catches you here, he's gonna be pissed." I informed in an emotionless voice.
"I wanna show you something."
"And what's that?"
"If you come out from under the covers, I'll show you."
I sighed and pulled the covers off of me while sitting up. "Take my hand." Tsubaki held his hand out to me. I looked at his hand, then at him. "Okay...?" I took his hand and he took me over to the window.
"There's no reason to be shut in here anymore. See, the sun is setting." Tsubaki said. "Is this what you wanted to show me?" I asked while emotionlessly gazing at the view. "No, not that." Tsubaki opened the window, then picked me up bridal style.
"Are you holding on tightly?" He asked. "What are you doing, Tsubaki?" I asked, blutnly. "Are you holding on tightly?" He repeated. I sighed and wrapped my arms around his neck. "There. Happy?" I asked. He smiled at me before taking off into the sky.
I instinctively held him tighter while closing my eyes tightly.
Tsubaki's POV
I glanced at Eiko as she held me tighter while her eyes were closed. 'So, cute.' I thought. "Eiko, you can open your eyes now." I said to her in a soft tone. Eiko slowly opened her eyes and gasped at the scenery of the descending sun.
"It's so pretty." She said in awe. "Are you telling me, you've never seen a descending sun before?" I asked. "No," Eiko shook her head. "I've always slept through sunsets." She said. "Aren't you glad you got to see one today?" I asked her.
"Mm-hm." Eiko nodded her head. We continued to gracefully fly around the city for a while until we sat down on a building. "I've never watched a sunset. It feels warm and pretty. Especially when you're with someone." Eiko mentioned.
"Yes. It is beautiful, isn't it?" I agreed. "Thank you for taking me out to see this, Tsubaki." Eiko said, smiling. "You're welcome. Oh, I almost forgot. Here, I have something for you." I informed. I went in my pocket and took out a ruby pendant.
"Wow, it's so pretty." She said. Her voice was emotionless, but she smiled a beautiful smile. "Here, let me put it on you." I offered. I took the necklace and placed it around her neck. "There. You look very beautiful with it." I commented.
Eiko blushed while shyly looking off to the side. I chuckled at her shyness. "You're so cute." I said. "I'm not cute." She denied. "But you are." I insisted with a smile. Eiko blushed again while pulling her legs to her chest. "I've been wondering about something." I mentioned.
"Oh, yeah? And what's that?" Eiko asked. "Why do you keep your eye covered?" I asked her. "I-I don't wanna talk about it. It's embarrassing." She answered.
"How so?"
"It's just... ugly. I'm ugly."
"I don't think that. Here, let me see."
"No, don't!"
When I removed her hair from her eye, I saw a scar over it, like she was scratched. "You poor girl." I said in a gentle tone. "It's nothing. It happened a long time ago." She said, covering her eyes with her hand. "What happened?" I asked.
"...Two boys tried to hurt me. When they reached for me, I bit one of their hands and they cut my eye with a knife. After that, I ran off. It's not something I like to talk about. It's a sad story. Not interesting at all." Eiko said.
"I'm sorry to hear that." I said, feeling bad for her. "Don't be." She said, shaking her head. "Does your brother know about this story?" I asked. "No, I never told him." Eiko answered. "Hmm... I think I can help." I said.
"How?"
"Look at me."
Eiko looked at me, and when she did, I gently kissed her scarred eye. I took my lips off her eyes and the scar disappeared. "What did you do?" Eiko asked. "I made your scar disappear." I answered, smiling. Eiko placed her hand over her eye, feeling for the scar, then looked at me.
"Thank you." She said. "I believe I should get something in return for helping you." I said, taking her chin in my hand. "Are you asking for a kiss?" Eiko asked, bluntly. I blinked my eyes in surprise, then chuckled.
"You really are straightforward, aren't you?" I said. "Yeah." Eiko nodded her head. She stood ot her feet and stretched. "Thank you for today, Tsubaki. But I think I should be heading back now." Eiko mentioned.
"My, my. I haven't realized how late it's gotten. I should be heading back, too." I said, standing up as well. "Thanks again for taking me out." Eiko said. "It was my pleasure." I said with a smile. The two of us look at the sky, watching the stars.
"I had fun tonight, Eiko. Thank you for joining me." I thanked her. "I had fun, too." Eiko said. I smiled before kissing her cheek. Eiko's eyes widened slightly as a blush formed on her face. I chuckled at her cuteness.
"Ta-ta, my dear. I'll see you again real soon." I said before flying off. When I returned to the building, I was greeted by Shamrock. "You've returned home awfully late, Young Master. May I ask where you've been?" He said.
"Oh, nowhere. I was just on a date." I said, smiling. "A date?!" Shamrock repeated.
Eiko's POV
"Thanks for tonight." I whispered. I placed my hand on my cheek, where Tsubaki kissed me. "I need to get home. Mikuni might be back." I said. I flew back to the house, hoping that Mikuni and Uncle Doubt Doubt were still out.
"Hey. Welcome back, Little sister. Where ya been?" Mikuni asked. "I just... took a walk." I lied. "You didn't attack someone while you were out, did you?" Uncle Doubt Doubt asked. "No." I answered while shaking my head.
"Did you drink any blood at all today?" Mikuni asked. "No." I repeated. "Here. Drink some of my blood." Uncle Doubt Doubt offered. "Okay." I walked up to him as he kneeled down so I was near his neck; I'm pretty short.
I opened my mouth and bit down on his neck, drinking his blood. "Thank you, Uncle Doubt Doubt." I said, once I've had enough of his blood. "You're welcome." He replied. "Now don't you two look absolutely cute together? Aw, I should just take a picture!" Mikuni said, almost fangirling.
"Please don't." Uncle Doubt Doubt and I said, bluntly. "I'm going to bed a little bit early." I informed. I went upstairs and headed to my room. "Don't you think you should've told them about your date with Tsubaki?" The Black Rabbit asked.
"It was a date?" I asked, emotionlessly. "Wow, you're so dense. Then again, I shouldn't be surprised. I am you." He said. Once I got to my room, I sat down on my bed. I should prpbably keep my eye covered for a while.
Mikuni and Uncle Doubt Doubt don't know that the scar on my eye is gone. Hopefully, they won't ask. "Tsubaki kissed my cheek. I wonder why?" I wondered. "Probably because he likes you." The Black Rabbit said.
"No, I don't think so. I'm just ordinary. He'd probably like a girl who's classy." I said. I yawned. "I'm so tired, I think I have to take a shower in the morning. That's a problem." I said before lying down on my bed, passing out instantly.
