Cassie Evans
The door creaked as I pushed it open. I waited and knocked on the frame. "Come in." I heard a gentle voice call out. The floor boards squared as we all went trampling in. I saw that the front room was small but neat. There was
A couch/love seat in the corner. A glass coffee table with a few magazines on them. Near the window was a vase with some type of flower.
I continued walking into the back room where I presume her office is. The door was already open so all we had to do was walk in. "One second-" she said and I noticed that there was a stack of papers lying on her desk. "How may I help yo- oh Simon. What's going on?" She suddenly asked with concern.
"It's happening." Simon said two words and from the look on Cassie's face those two words held a lot of meaning. Her face fell, almost like someone had died.
She nodded looking grim. "So, this must be Evelyn." She addressed my presence and smiled in my direction. I nodded mutely. "My dear, you have lots to learn and not much time I'm afraid."
People keep telling me that but I have no clue what they're talking about! I guess she could tell I was getting frustrated because she came around the desk and wrapped me in a hug. Her touch sending some unknown feeling, I could feel my frustration escaping. Did she do that? How can someone mess with my emotions, although I did just find out my best friend since forever was a werewolf so I can't really throw it out the window, right?
Cassie guided me towards the couch on the far wall and gestures for the other to have a seat as well. "It's good to see you all. Emily," she nodded her direction and did the same with Trevor. "How's everything going for the two of you?" Of course now that Cassie's got Emily started, she won't ever shut up but I'm grateful because it eased some of the tension. Cassie just nodded with a look of understanding on her face and laughed during some of the highlights of Em's story. "Simon, how's everything been for you?"
Simon looked at me and grinned sheepishly, "Well, Ms. Evans, this has been the most hectic week of my life." He said with a joking manner. Then started talking about school but I stopped listening.
"You called me earlier this morning saying you would drop by for a few. Have you told her anything?" I let out a loud minion laugh. Grinning over at Simon, I raised my eyebrow and gave him a look that said you-wanna-tell-them-or-do-I-have-to. It was then that Simon got pale and glared at me.
"Well, I told her what I was. And that we would explain more in detail later." Cassie nodded and looked over at the desk.
"And why is it that your just getting here now?" I laughed again and thought back on it.
Flashback
"Simon, do you really have to drive like this? Woah...jeez, can you at least stay on the road? Please?!" I asked him in desperation because I really didn't feel like dying.
"We aren't going to die. Stop being so dramatic and live a little champ!" He said and promptly turned up the radio. I tried closing my eyes to drown out the outside world but he kept jerking the car with the music.
I reached over and turned down the radio. "Simon would you please drive in your lane? There's a bunch of stuff over here and I don't want to run over any of it. Please." I told him again and he still didn't listen instead gave me a look.
He took the wheel and made it so we were as far to the edge as we could get. Then he promptly stared at me as our car trudged along the dangerous pavement. I just bit my lip to keep from saying anything else. He was satisfied and went I bring the car back into the road when we heard the noise.
I gave him a look and just nodded my head. "Don't say it!" Simon growled.
"Fine, fine be like that. Just know that..." I paused and gave him a look. "I told y-" he attacked me. He covered my mouth and began to tickle me. I couldn't breathe!
"I told you not to say it." He warned and continued, "and you said it!" He yelled out. "I will stop as long as you promise not to say it." I nodded but he insisted to say it out loud.
"Fine." I grumbled still suffering form no oxygen. "I promise not to say it."
Present time
I looked over at Simon and said, "I. Told. You. So!" He lunges at me from across the room. I dived away but he caught me.
"I told you not to say it!" He grumbled and began to tickle me to death.
"Wa-a-it!" I wheezed our and he puss for a moment. "Let me explain..." he grumbled in complaint but stopped long enough for me to catch m breath and speak. "You said to not say it. I never said it, I said "I told you so." He just laughed at my pettiness but continued to tickle me.
"Wait, hold on Simon!" Cassie called out. He gave turned to her and glared. "She has a valid point, you never specified what not to say. But would you mind shedding some light on the current situation...I think that we-" she says turning to herself, Emily, and Trevor,"would like to know what exactly happened."
I looked up at Simon and glanced back at Cassie, giving her a pleading look. "Well..." I started and was cut off with Simon huffing in defeat. I recalled from the beginning and then made a face at Simon. I pushed him off my chest and puffed my cheeks out like a chipmunk, then stuck out my tongue and did a mini dance.
I offered him a hand, he grasped it. Although instead of helping him up he brought me down on his chest. I let out an "oomph" and just laid there. I let out a sigh and just laid on his chest. He wrapped his arms around me and we just laid there.
I heard the others laughing at the story. After a while once the hyenas calmed down and were staring at us. "So you have a lot to learn, Evelyn. I know that a lot had happened to you recently. But before I begin, did anything else happen on the ride here?" I began I shake my head no but then remembered the dream and shuddered.
I looked down at Simons chest as I recalled the dream. I subconsciously touched my neck that was now covered by my jacket. Simon looked down at me and gave me a worried look. He sat us up and reached for my hand. He moved it away form my neck and gasped. I looked behind him and looked at my reflection. There was a horrible bruise around my neck, like someone had been choking me. I gasped as I remembered that the voice had choked me in my dream. There's no way that it was real right? He couldn't have done that...I looked over at Simon and he pulled me into a hug.
"I didn't know-I didn't know-" he kept saying while rocking us back and forth while mourning he was sorry and he didn't know.
"It's fine. You couldn't have known, but how?" Then a thought occurred, when he kicked me...did that leave a mark. I suddenly grew nervous and pulled out of his embrace. I lifted my shirt and saw bruises. I gently touched them and recalled the dream. I remember how he slapped me and I touched my cheek. Simon looked down at my stomach and I could see a tear in his eye.
I wiped it away and hugged him again. I heard someone clear their throat and we turned around. I just hugged Simon and let him explain as best as he could. "Evelyn...would you mind showing me?" Cassie asked hesitantly. I just nodded against Simons chest not knowing what she meant. I wanted to help though.
"So we are going to call Damien. Damien can see things and show others. He's going to allow me to see it, if that's alright?" I nodded and went to move by they came to me.
"Damien...yeah. How've you been?...that's good! Listen I'm kind of in a pickle...yeah, that would be awesome! See you soon Damien." She disconnected the call and turned to us. "He's on his way. Just leaving the dining hall so he'll be here shortly."
"Me too." Simon said without question. I nodded against his chest. Damien reached out and grasped my hand. He told me to just remember. I scoffed in my head because that's a lot easier said than done.
Damien grabbed Cassie's hand and she grabbed Simons hand. I thought of the dream. As it progressed I heard them gasp and felt Simon shake in anger. When it finally ended Simons arms tightened around me. I found myself leaning into him. I sighed and looked over towards Cassie. She was in tears so I reached over and gave her arm a squeeze.
"I didn't know." Simon muttered into my hair. Cassie nodded and looked to Damien.
"You don't have to stay here. Go meet Carly, you don't want to keep her waiting. Thank you for coming on such short notice." She winked as he nodded to her and in my direction. We made eye contact and I murmured a thank you his direction.
"Simon, you know what this means right?" Cassie addressed. I'm so confused but then again, when am I not confused lately.
"Yeah," He sighs sadly. "Unfortunately. Although she's safe here. He can't get to her here."
"Yes that's what it means. Sadly-" still don't know what's going on guys. "Ok, Evelyn. The voice you heard was the person after you. He can enter your dreams. Here you should be fine. It doesn't matter, with the shield up he shouldn't be able enter. We need to help build a resistance though so when someone tries to enter your dream. You can protect yourself." I nodded along not truly understanding anything.
"Why don't we give her the general run down of how things work here and what things are." Suggested Simon and I was grateful because I may finally get some answers.
"Right! Emily, Trevor. You don't have to stay I think we've got things covered. You can go to the cabin if you want. That is if you remember how to get there..." Cassie suggested and Emily grinned widely.
Emily looked to Trevor and said "race you there slow poke!" They are SO cute. They left in a rush and I turned towards Cassie ready to get my answers.
I took a deep breath and gave her a reassuring smile. "Ok. So this is an academy for the gifted. People like you and me and even Simon. We harvest the power and help you to control it. It will be difficult but listen. Simon said he already mentioned to you that he's a werewolf." I nodded. "There are other basic categories such as shapeshifters, fae, vampires, and guardians. Guardians are rare so there aren't exactly books written on them but with each species comes an ability. It doesn't have to be the same for every person though. One fae could have the ability to communicate with animals and another to heal things. We will teach you more as the time comes but for now why don't we get you settled in here. Simon you remember how to get to the cabin right?" He nodded suddenly looking excited. "You can give her a self guided tour along the way." Cassie suggested and I grinned.
Simon stood up and grasped my hand pulling me towards the door. I grinned and thanked Cassie. She nodded and said she'd see us soon.
"This way is the dining hall. Basically where we go to eat and socialize. Then the cabins are all around scattered behind the dinning hall. The "school" buildings are to the left and trying to the right. Our cabin is right this way madam." He says the last part with an English accent and guided me with his hand. I laughed at him and walked down the path.
I reached down and grabbed his hand while we walked into the sunset...well not quit the sunset more like the moonlight. I skipped along the path with Simon trailing behind but soon enough I had him skipping too. I finally felt complete, like this was my home. I know I haven't been there long but it felt right.
