the gum goes astray

slips passed my convoluted tongue

dodges through my teeth escaping my moving lips

lands on my knee and

drops at last to the floor beside my left foot

close to the leg of the chair

my teeth marks seem accusatory and helpless

lying there on their sides

so gum has a bottom and a top
