Chapter 14

--Previously--

"You won't want toys! HE'S LYING!! HE'S AN ALIEN! AND I'LL PROVE IT!!" Dib yelled, meeting their gazes.
"Is that a challenge, pathetic little boy?" Zim smirked when he heard gasps from the kids, even the adults were somewhat intrigued.

"You know what, yes. Yes it is."

Dib and Zim sat opposite each other on the children's dinner table. It was placed near the photo booth, which was pretty close to the DJ. Many children swarmed around the two elder children. Of course, I was allowed to stand right next to either Dib or Zim (in this case it was Dib) to determine what side I was on. Gaz would be on the opposite to be sort of an ally, even though she didn't like neither of the boys. It wasn't that she hated them, because she didn't - she just found them overbearing and annoying in some sort of way.

The boys stared at each other eyes. Zim, looking quite confident, while Dib looked at him warily. You could tell just by looking at them that they were a little nervous for the challenges ahead, despite not knowing what they are. I guess that's the worst part. Not even I had fully decided what they'd face! So I came up with something from the top of my mind,
"Just eat a bunch of sweets, I don't know. I'm indecisive I'm sure you can understand-"
"Nah, I think I have an idea of what they can do." Gaz looked up at me, . "I'd like to see how bad they are at dancing."

Zim was overjoyed at this idea, he was a lot more confident in dancing than he was at eating. Then again, this was Earth and he wasn't human, it was normal for him to be nervous when it came to eating. It appeared to be the opposite to Dib though. Obviously he had nothing to worry about with food, but with dancing it was something else. While he was somewhat confident in dancing, he was definitely not around others. So to make things easier on Dib, I decided it'd be a good idea for me and Gaz to suffer with them.

I saw from the corner of my eye how shaky Dib was, "You're fine!" I patted him on the shoulder and smiled reassuringly. He gained a bit of confidence back from that. Even though me, Gaz and the younger children would be taking this whole fiasco as a game, I knew for a fact that Zim and Dib were certainly not joking.
"I bet Zim sucks." I smiled to myself, creating some drama to the scene. Also- while doing this - I tried to make things seem a lot better for Dibs end. He knew I had his back, but understood I had Zim's too. While it didn't seem like it, Zim sort of knew that too. I winked at Zim, seeing as he didn't take that so kindly. He didn't see that I was only joking, which made him want to take on the challenge.

Because Gaz didn't want to join in, Zim's only option was the creep of a friend who rarely left him alone, Keef. 'Of course he'd agree, it's Keef for gods sake! ' I thought to myself, feeling slightly angry at that. I had gotten told by Zim a couple of days ago about just how bad of a friend Keef was. It was just creepy. Even still, after a year, he was still clinging onto Zim (who made it clear that he was very uncomfortable about it). Zim looked at Keef in utter disgust while they begun the dance battle. I could barely contain by laughter, especially over the fact that Zim looked just to confident over his stupid dance moves.
It all ended with Alex declaring the win. She was the judge since she wasn't picking sides. The winner of the dance battle was Zim. I'm pretty sure Alex chose him because she found him hilarious, I couldn't agree more. At least I helped Dib feel a little more confident with his dancing since I did it too (and I'm also a little shy at stuff like this). At least, I think I helped.

"HA HA DIB-STINK!" Zim cackled. He felt a sense of victory over the fact he won. What I'm puzzled about is how he didn't question about any prizes. These days kids would want just about anything for winning out of pure greed - and Zim was definitely the one for greed. Another thing that crossed my mind was if they had forgotten about the whole argument earlier. The one about revealing Zim's identity. Quite frankly, I had forgotten about it. "ANOTHER VICTORY FOR-"
"Oh just shut up! You only won because you looked ridiculous!" Dib yelled, his voice cracking.
"RIDICULOUS!? NEVER!!" Zim shouted back, offended. He pointed to himself with a proud expression on his face. "I, Zim, only won because I'm the very best at what I do."
Zim smirked at his remark. He knew what he was doing. He knew what he was going to get out of this: A reaction. It's exactly what he lived for. Not only was he doing this to piss off his classmate, Dib, but he truly felt that he did amazing with the performance.
Dib was quiet. He didn't know what to add. He couldn't utter a word, stutter a word or even mutter a word.
"Poor, poor Dib. You can't even win, let alone gather this 'proof' you speak of about me being an alien!" Zim intertwined his fingers together and held them to his face. It was almost like he expected this of Dib, then again, he does think like that all of the time.
"I have proof! And I-"
"What are you going to do? Tell your Dad? You're out of options Dib, he doesn't believe you!" Zim had lived on earth long to know what a healthy family would look like. He used his knowledge to his advantage. "At this point, does he even care about you? He never listens. A parent or guardian should always listen and support their child. Uh oh... I think we have an answer." Zim smirked, amused at his behaviour.

That was until he was met with Dibs fist. In an instant, his antennae fell - the heavy weight distributed on his eye caused him to shut it as a reflex. The punch was indeed painful and held the same sort of tension as the words he spoke to Dib earlier. It even made me mad. I knew that Zim had a burning hate for Dib but I never expected him to say that. I was even glad to know that he earned a black eye!

After being kicked out of the party, we all walked home in silence. Zim managed to open his eye after minutes and the pain slowly went away, along with the bruised eyelid. It was surprising to find out that Irkens deal with pain completely different as to how humans do, they seem to heal quicker too! Alex had her mouth agape. She was slightly amazed. Of course she was though, she was the only one who didn't find out that Zim was an alien.

After the sheer amount of silence, Dib was the first to break the ice.
"Why say that, Zim?"
"Oh come on, you know it's true." Zim glared at Dib, causing him to feel even more upset than ever! It was an unexpected reply, then again, he had one hell of an ego.
"Can you guys just shut up for once, please? It's annoying..." Gaz shook her head, leaving nothing but silence to fill the air.

It wasn't long before Dib and Gaz reached their houses. They heard the voice of their dad chant from another room,
"You're home early!"
The siblings headed to the kitchen to have their dinner, seeing as they never ate at the party. Once they headed their microwave meals, Dib and Gaz sat at the table together and started to eat. Dib sighed, leaving Gaz worried.
"Oh come on! Don't tell me you're still worrying about what Zim said?!" There was no reply from Dib - all he did was shrug and twiddle his fingers. Gaz groaned, "You know Dad cares about you! Of course he does! If he doesn't see that you're amazing than so what? You'll always have me!" This comment from Gaz made Dib smile. It was anything but ordinary for such a reply from Gaz, but she said it because she knew he needed to hear those words at the time. It was truly heartwarming.

"Thanks, Gaz..." Dib mumbled with a smile.
