Chapter 11

--Previously--

We set aside the paper, which none of us had actually written on. All apart from Dib, who had actually thought of a small something. I really didn't want to have to do this right now, after everything that's went on, I wanted to relax. It was clear to everyone that me and Dib felt that way. Surprisingly, Zim helped me with this. He saw and could tell by the way we were acting that we wanted time to ourselves. So he asked to cut the project short for today. Question is, why?

After finishing the school day (and with it being Friday), you would've guessed many students would be fleeing the school with so much joy. I did it myself. After one hell of a week I've had, I was only happy for it being the weekend. Tonight, I had planned to hang out with Dib. We'd both do whatever wacky shit we come up with, just like we always do. And just like he always does, Zim would just so happen to be there and interrupt us.

"So then, I-"

"HIYA!!" An awfully childish cheerful voice chirped, interrupting Dib. I recognised the voice and turned around immediately, only to spot Zim holding Gir on a leash in the distance. While I hated the fact that we were once again interrupted by them, Gir was just to cute to scold. Dib, on the other hand, was quite agitated.
"Oh, hello Gir, Zim!" I smiled.
"Hello human. I must have a word with you and get as far away from the Dib-Stink as possible." Zim said, offering a hand. Dib didn't want me to accept it, it was clear from the expression of hatred that he gave towards Zim. Untrustworthiness to sum it up, and it was what they felt towards eachother. So while me and Zim would talk about god knows, Gir would have to stay with Dib and keep him from coming over.

I don't know why it was meant to be so private, it wasn't any secret or anything. All he told me was, "If we're going to help each other, human, it would be best to cooperate. So I suggest I should show you something to gain your trust back."
I raised an eyebrow, signifying my confusion. I was specifically instructed to knock at his door, it would be any time today, whether it was now or later. He was patient with very little things and I just knew he'd loose his temper if I turned down the offer. So I shook hands, making a deal with him.

An hour passed since then and it was dark outside. So I said my goodbyes to Dib while turning down the offer he gave to walk me home. From then, I slowly walked to Zim's house- conveniently 2 blocks away. It was almost like he was watching my every move. As soon as I got there, the door swung open, only 2 robotic figures welcomed me to my home.
"Welcome home son!" A cheery tone reflected off of the two. I awkwardly stood there until seeing Zims arm slowly wrap around the 'mother's' leg. A shy greeting, I kid you not, but maybe it was because he was nervous.
Zim signaled for me to step inside, pushing the robots aside to make way for me. Since the incident from a couple of days ago, he's actually been trying with me. I find that odd- half expecting him to be more commanding and such. Zim followed my movement, making my way into the living room. The Irken then took the lead by speeding to the kitchen.

The unexpected happened afterwards, he opened the bin, pointing a finger at it.
"Get in." He demanded. I took the courage to and with disgust, I replied in an awful tone:
"Ew" I squeezed my nose, "I'm not getting in there-"
"Do you want to see or not!?" Zim raised his tone. And in fear, I stepped in. The Irken stepped in right after me, there, I was confused.

Then, I saw it. His base.

I have to admit, it looked cool from my point of view now. Comparing to Wednesday, when he kidnapped me and brought me here. The entrance to the place was certainly kept a secret. I mean, who would guess that you'd have to step into a bin just to get in a base.? Zim smiled proudly, inspecting my glee expression.
"If I'm going to gather your trust, I might as well show you this place again. That way, if anything were to go wrong, you'd know how to access this dreadful place." Silence entered the conversation after he said that. And I just couldn't keep my eyes off the spacious place.
"You know, aside from the fact I was brought to this place by being kidnapped, you did a great job with building it!" I gave a little smile. Just like he wanted, I started to give a little more trust into him.
"Ah, yes, thank you, human."

Zim left me to explore, having no problem as long as I kept my hands off of everything. While I payed no attention to the alien, his expression changed. It was from a 'sincere' bright smile to a malicious sly smirk. He knew what he was doing, and was glad he was getting his way...

"My Tallests, you'll be relieved to know that the current situation is running smoothly. I'm working with a human-"
"YOU'RE WHAT!?" Tallest Red freaked out, spitting his tea on Purple. While Purple used a cloth to dry his face, Zim carried on with the conversation. He would never openly admit it, but he was very annoyed with his leaders right now.
"It's fine, I've got it all under control. She won't be staying for long-"
"You're killing her?" Asked Purple, a slight curve to his lips. Zim rolled his eyes and continued without losing his cool,
"No no! I'm not killing her. She'll be moving away soon. For the time being, she's helping me keep my identity a secret-" Being interrupted again by his leaders, Zim was really struggling to keep together. He never even understood whether they were listening to him properly.
"And how exactly is this going to benefit us? Do you have any plans for destroying the earth?" Asked Red, eating a doughnut.

Over the course of a year, ever since Zim landed on earth, he'd began to call the Tallests often. It wasn't until after a few months were they actually interested in planet Earth. Thus, they asked Zim to check in with them more often and inform them on any updates. Now that there was a high chance of his discovery, the Tallests began to doubt him again. After all, it had already been over a year since he started his mission, and that's the longest any Irken has spent on an invasion.

"...Not yet..." Zim worried.
The Tallests both shook their heads, "You're leaving us very disappointed, Zim. Call us again when you actually know what you're doing."
Zim sighed, quite sad with himself. He didn't understand what he was doing wrong, or even if he was doing things wrong. Was he a screw up? What was it that the Tallests weren't telling him?

Anyway, they left it there, where Tallest Red ended the call. Zim made his way back up to the living room, there, Gir greeted him with his usual cheery tone. Unfortunately for him, Zim wasn't in the mood, and shook him off.
"Not now Gir, I need time to think." He sighed, gathering his things and walking into the kitchen.
