Chapter 20

Before I knew it, everything went pitch black. I tried to blink and make it better, but nothing helped. "Did you bring a flashlight or something?" I asked Dipper.

"I have my phone," Dipper said. He dug it out of his pocket. I looked for mine too, but I must have taken it out and left it somewhere.

Dipper turned on his flashlight app and it tore through the darkness. But there was nothing in front of us. Just empty darkness. It felt cold and wet too. Like a cave.

After that thought, I started to panic. I hated confined spaces and caves were the worst! I knew it almost never happened, but I'm terrified of being burried alive under a large mass of rocks from a cave in. It was so irrational I could almost trick myself into thinking I was being silly. Well, that is, until I was actually in a cave.

"You okay?" Dipper asked.

I swollowed. "Fine," I said through gritted teeth so it sounded like I was the opposite of fine.

"You sure? You're shaking pretty badly."

"Are we in a cave?" I blurted out.

He took the light off me then went to the ceiling. It was about a foot or so over us. He shined the light on the walls. Yup, they were there too, all made of rock, about six feet apart.

My breaths came more rapidly. Dipper turned back to me. "What's wrong?"

I hugged myself and closed my eyes. "I'm terribly clausterfobic. I hate caves!"

"Don't worry," Dipper said. "Everything will be just fine. You can keep your eyes closed and I'll guide you. Does that help?"

I nodded eyes still closed. Dipper took hold of my arm and started to lead me through the winding maze of rock. I occasionally got scraped on the walls a few times, but it was nothing to complain about. At least I wasn't here all by myself.

"Soos! Melody!" Dipper started to yell without warning. I flinched a little, but nothing too bad. The call bounced off the walls, hurting my ears.

The echoes died down without a response. "This is going to take longer then I thought it would."

We took a few more steps, and suddenly Dipper yelped in pain. My eyes shot open, but a small exlamation escaped my lips. What used to be pitch darkness was bathed in light that was too bright to even look at through closed eyes.

Our eyes finally got used to the light and we were on our way again. This time, we were headed towards a forest. Before we got too far, a mirror popped out in front of us. There was an image of Billy displayed on it. She smiled at us. "So you got through my cave. But tick tock, you've only got five hours left!"

"Five hours?" Dipper asked. "We were only in that cave for an hour at most! I thought you gave us seven hours!"

"I did," Billy said. "But time moves diffrently here then it does in your dimention. Didn't I tell you?"

"No," I said sarcastically. "You just convinently left it out "

"Aw well," Billy said with a smirk. "Happy hunting!" And with that, the mirror disappered.

"What did she mean by happy hunting?" I asked Dipper.

He shook his head. "Don't ask me. But I'm guessing those powers of yours are about to come in handy sooner or later."

~

Sadly, we found out sooner.

After a few minutes, we assumed we were hunting for Soos and Melody, you know. A play on words to scare us.

But that didn't last long. A mintute after that thought accured to me, something growled and pounced at me. Thankfully, I wasn't relaxed and I was part demon. I learned a new trick, how to turn intangible. The thing went right through me. Dipper was staring at me in shock. "How did you-"

"Not the time!" I told Dipper. "Get behind me!"

"But-"

The thing came at us again, this time lunging towards Dipper. I shot it with a ray of my powers and it evaporated into thin air.

"What was that thing?" Dipper asked, staring at where it had been seconds ago.

"Not sure," I said. My head was starting to hurt a little. "But if more come, I'm not sure if I can hold them off."

"Are you okay?" Dipper asked. "You look a little pale."

I took a deep breath. "I'll be fine. I can handle this." I was mostly trying to tell that to myself. If I used too much of my power, my humanity would literally burn up and I would become a full on demon. That was the last thing I wanted to happen to me. I knew that I should have gotten rid of these things when I had the chance!

Another thing came at us a mintue later. I blasted that one too. I'd gotten rid of four more when I suddenly fell to my knees.

"Kayla!" Dipper exclaimed. "Are you okay? What happened?"

My head was spinning and my vision swam in front of me. "I'm fine," I murmered, trying to stand back up. Dipper pushed me back down. "If you keep going like this, you'll collapse. Just take a break.

"But...Soos and Melody...we have...to..."

"It'll be fine," Dipper said. "We'll find them in no time."

He grabbed me by the arms and awkwardly made it so my arms were around his throat and my legs hung limp behind me. I could tell I was too heavy for him to bear for too long, but I was greatful for him doing this.

The next ten minutes were calm and peaceful. My powers grained me so badly that I actually started dozing, probably drooling all over Dipper's shoulder. If I did, he didn't say anything about it.

He set me down gently and we both rested for a little bit. Even the climate was seeming to work against us. The sun was beating down ruthlessly and I felt swear beads run down my face and seriously wished I had time to put deoderent on before we got teleported to an alternet dimention.

The rest didn't last long. There was another growl and me and Dipper were both on our feet in seconds. I blasted the creature as it came out of hiding, causing my head to pound.

"Let's keep moving," Dipper said. "The faster we get out of these woods, the better."

I nodded, trying to hide the pain. I should have been used to it by now, but I never used my power at home or anywhere else for that matter. They may have been helpful, but they came with a terrible price. And if I used too much...I didn't want to think about it.

We ran into two more creatures before we finally made it out of the woods. One of them had scratched Dipper in the arm. It wasn't a serious cut, but his left arm went limp. We fasioned a crude sling out of Dipper's flannal so it wouldn't get any worse. Our best bet was to find Soos and Melody as soon as possible and get the heck out of here.

We both were exausted, but we kept going. We had no time to rest. Billy could kill of Soos and Melody whenever. It was kind of how the Cipher's worked. A slight hole in a deal. A loophole. I cleared the thought away. Soos and Melody would be fine, I was sure of it.

It wasn't until we actually found them that I wasn't so sure of myself...

*evil laughter*

Yeah, I know. I suck.

But I really need to go to bed and I haven't updated in forever!

So, sorry!
