My muscles are tense.

In her fear landscape, Tris is standing up in my room when I start coming towards her.  When I get close enough, we begin to kiss.

That's when I look away.

I cannot watch this.

I can feel several of the Erudite watching me with disdain in their eyes.  Surely they suspect that I've taken advantage of her before.

A few moments later, I hear a loud gasp for breath and look back at Tris.

She's sitting up.

Her eyes travel to me faster than I thought they would.

She's trying to say sorry.

I turn away.

"Four." I hear Tris call my name as I'm going back to my room.

I turn toward her.

"Yes?"

"I don't want to wait for dinner in the dormitory." Her eyes are pleading with me to forgive her, but I already have.  It's not her fault.  If it's anyone's, it's mine.

"You can stay with me, if you want to, of course." I say it all very fast, afraid that if I say it too slowly I will back out.

She hesitates slightly before saying: "Okay, sure."
