CHAPTER FOURTEEN

The flesh was easily pierced, and the knife ran through Jason's pale skin, now paler, with ease. She shoved the knife into the top half of his face, two olive shaped eyeballs cut in half and on the ground. She elongated his mouth by running her knife through the skin where the ends of his lips stopped. No sound came out. No tired screams. No last words. No breathing. Jason was dead.

Piper went to the back and when she came out, all the blood on her hands a forgotten memory. She was now wearing a tank top and shorts, and her hair was in low pigtails. She wore an expression of innocence.

I had stood a full movement, unmoving after Piper skipped away. Tears blurred my vision. My heart stopped in my chest. But the moment ended quickly, and I dialled 911.

"911 speaking," a bored lady said to me.

"My friend was stabbed to death," I said, unable to keep the quiver out of my voice. The lady gasped and cleared her throat.

"Please remain calm." She said, and I faintly heard her typing on a keyboard. "Can you tell me where you are?"

"I'm not exactly sure," I could barely breathe. "But there's this café, it's called 'Café Love is', and I'm at the other end of the street."

"Right. Please remain as calm as possible. I am sending police and an ambulance. Please stay on the line until then."

"Okay." I had sunk to the ground, and as much I tried to stop it, I cried. "I really want to call my friend. Please."

"Sir, it is best if you wait for police to arrive first, then you can call your friend." She said. I nodded but burst into loud tears immediately. The bright 3 PM sun couldn't make me feel better. I turned my head, Jason's body a few feet from me, but I couldn't see his face, or whatever was left of it. I tried to turn, but my body failed me. I was a lump of flesh, just like Jason, unable to do anything.

I faintly heart sirens arrive at the café. A few police officers went inside, and a few ran down the street toward me. I pointed them Jason's body before they could say anything. I pressed my ear to the phone.

"Thank you so much." I said to the 911 woman. I cut the call and dialled Will with haste.

"Hey, Nico, how's Jason?" He said, smiling. "And why are there siren noises?"

"Will, come down the café now." I said, the tears on my phone screen. "That girl, Piper? She was a psycho. She killed Jason. Stabbed him to death. Please, Will, come."

Will went silent for a moment. "I'm on my way."

I cut the call and lay on the dirty sidewalk. An ambulance had arrived at the scene. Doctors and nurses rushed out with a hospital stretcher. They grunted, lifting what was left of Jason's body onto the bed. He bled through every sheet under and on him. I sat there, not knowing how many minutes passed by.

"Nico!" Will rushed toward me. He picked me and helped me stand, but my legs still shook. My knees knocked against each other. Will's expression was so shocked, so sad and so furious all at once. "Are you okay?"

I shook my head, resting my head on his chest. Tears slipped down, my eyes bloodshot from all the crying. Will didn't hesitate to hug my back and rest his head on top of mine. A crowd had now gathered. People murmured softly, no clue about the life that was lost.

"Nico! Will!" I heard my father yell out and stand in front of us. Apollo ran too, huffing behind my dad.

"Will told me and I thought I should call your dad." Apollo said. He put an arm on Will's shoulder and peered down at me. "I'm so sorry. What's happened is the absolute worst thing that could happen. You're welcome to our home anytime."

My father spoke next, but his words were a ringing in my head. I wanted so much to wind back time. I wanted to so much to intervene between him and Piper in the alley. I wanted so much to tell him to never go on a date with that wretched girl. I wanted to do anything that couldn't prevented his fate.

"He might still be alive." My father said. I wanted to laugh in his face and tell with cruelty that he hadn't seen Piper pluck out his eyeballs with his knife. He didn't hear how he screamed for anyone to help him. He was gone.

"Excuse me?" A police officer said. "We'd like to ask you some questions, please."

Will let go of me and I nodded. "Yeah, sure."

The police quizzed me quickly about what I had seen. I told them everything I knew. About how Piper tricked him. Everything about that girl I could remember. How she walked off with no remorse.

A few minutes later, I was done and numb. I sat on the dirty pavement, but Will picked me up. "I guess we can go home."

"No!" I screamed. "I want to see Jason."

Will squeezed my hand. "I don't they're letting anyone see him."

A police officer nodded as Will spoke. I hung my head in shame. "I don't want to go home. And I really don't want to be alone."

Will took my face in his hands. "Why don't you come to my house? Is that alright, dad?"

Apollo nodded, flashing me a dimpled smile. "Of course. You're welcome anytime."

I sniffed and nodded, still leaning on Will Solace. "I'd love that. What about you, dad?"

He smiled; his chapped lips pulled in a thin, sombre smile. "I think it'll be best if I go home. If I find anything out, I'll let you know first, okay?"

I couldn't smile at him, but I appreciated the sentiment. Will pulled me along into Apollo's fancy car, a silver Mercedes with heated seating. I buckled my seatbelt and leaned on Will, the soft music on the radio making no one feel better.
