Chapter 18
~~~Help~~~
Serena POV
We sat just stay there, the snobs of Dawn filling the room as I tried to collect all my thoughts after hearing her story, her life. But there is zero thinking going on in my head.
My eyes and my mouth were frozen wide open in an expression of stunned surprise, and although I was staring straight at her, she continued crying trying to not be noticed by me. Obviously, it didn't work. I shook my head in disbelief, waking up from my stunned state. I clenched my fists and gritted my teeth. How could I be so selfish?! Here we are talking about her long-hidden problems, while I was dealing my own. I'm such a self-centred monster. But I breathed out all the tension. She needs me right now.
"Dawn," I said gently. Trying to get her attention. I reached out for her, but the moment I was about to touch her, I stopped. What?Move!
I gently laid my hand on the side of her shoulder."Dawn, please don't cry." But she cried harder, I felt the tears well up in my eyes and a lump started to form. "Dawn," I sniffed. "Please, you make me cry as well. I can't deal with it." I gently pulled her up and she sat up straight.
"Come on, stand up." I helped her stand up and she leaned on my side, silently sniffing in my sweater.
I brought her to the bathroom and let her stand in front of the mirror. She buried her face in my sweater."Dawn, look up."
"No, please, I don't want to see myself. Please, I won't be able to handle it." She cried and the lump in my throat got bigger. Oh god.
"Please, Dawn, for me," I begged and hesitantly she looked up, but at first sight, she immediately hides her face again. And cried harder.
"I can't do it, just leave me be. I just can't," she cried.
"Dawn, I promise I won't let anything happen to you. Okay? I promise." She stopped crying after a while and looked up at me, I nodded telling her it is okay. She slowly turned her head towards the mirror. She took a step and looked at herself in front of the mirror. And the tears in her eyes started to flow down again. I stood beside her.
"Dawn listen to me, okay?" She slowly nodded. I swallowed to stop the lump from getting bigger.
"Not even to your demons, okay? just try to ignore them. Can you do that for me?" She nodded again.
"Okay, here we go, stay strong." I said."You might not believe my words, but I tell you this comes from my heart." I rubbed her on the sides of her arms.
"Dawn, you don't have to change yourself for others."I said softly, she tried to react."Before you say something, let me finish."
"Know this, you are just perfect for who you are. Your flaws and mistakes make you, you."I told her honestly." Also, don't take to much of others. If they don't love you for being you, that's their problem. No matter if it's family or not. You are in charge of how you live your life don't let negative people or anyone else control it. Trust me, I have been there. Keep positive and life will stay positive for you. So be yourself. No one can say you're doing it wrong."
"But," She cried harder. I gently squeezed her arms and interrupted her.
"Dawn, do you know what I see?" She shook her head. "I see a sweet, shy and cute girl. But however she is strong, she is smart. She is a survivor. You're such a wonderful person, even though you made so many mistakes and had fallen so low. You kept your head high and put others in front of your priorities. And if you tell me that you worthless, you are completely wrong. You have been such a help in others lives. You are a friend, a helper, a looker and a sister."
"But my sister,"
"Screw your sister, you are our sister. You are my family, screw biological rules about saying we are not. I don't care." I hugged her and hide my tears as I stuffed my face in her shoulder.
"Don't you dare, think that you're nothing. What about White, Ash and Gary even Paul? What are you to them?" I pulled away from her and looked her in her tear-filled eyes. "You're important to them too."
"But I'm totally different from them," She hung her head low." you're flawless, you've got nothing,"
"I'm not," I interrupted her.
"What?" She looked up at me, confused.
I thought back at that time and squeezed my eyes shut. It for her sake. It for her sake. It for her sake . I turned around and for the first time in forever I pulled my shirt up from my back. My skin was bare and visible.
I fought the nervous swirls that braided in my stomach, trying to think about something else, something that had no remembrance on how the scars were caused onto my skin. But I couldn't, I couldn't undo the images that were planted thickly in my tortured mind. I ought to adorn it, to never let a naked eye see it because if they did. I will regret it. She gasped and I knew what she saw, the scars covered my back like a hundred silvery pink snakes. It was a brutal memory of the torture I went through. You deserved it. I felt my whole body tremble, they are back.
"Oh my God." She gasped as I could feel her gaze behind me."What happened to you?"
The memories of that torture occupied my mind again. I pulled my sweater back down and turned around."I told you that nobody is perfect." I gave her a broken smile, putting a hand on her shoulder. "Be happy with who you are, okay?"
I let my hand slide off her shoulder and turned away. Maybe I walked away to give her some time to let it sink in or just because I was afraid of her reaction. I walked down the stairs and met White down below.
White POV.
I was just about to go upstairs as I saw Serena walk down the stairs. Something was off, she looked broken, depressed and ready to break down. I knew that look, it was the same look when I found out, but hers was much worse. I frowned.
"Did she tell you?" I whispered. She nodded in reply.
"Is she okay? Where is she?" I asked worriedly.
"She is okay." She walked past me. "I'd give her moment to let her sink it in."
"Sink in what?"
"Everything," She said as she walked towards the living room. I followed her but stopped when she opened de slide door. My worry increased a little.
"Where are you going?"
She looked over her shoulder."For a walk." I knew what she meant.
"Keep an eye on Lady for me, would you?" She asked as she faced forward again.
"Okay,"I whispered as Lady walked and seated her self beside me. She let a sad howl. I scratched her behind her ear. "Come on,"
I went towards the kitchen and started to pick up the plates on the island. I sighed and looked over at Lady who laid down on the ground waiting for her owner. I walked towards the sink.
"White," I heard a whisper. I turned around and saw Dawn standing there a hand on her belly as her head hung low. "I'm hungry."
For a moment I was surprised, she said she was hungry. "Do you want a piece of cake?" I offered her. She nodded and took place on a stool. I picked up a knife and walked over to the strawberry cake and sliced her a piece of cake. I placed it on a plate and pushed it in front of her with a little fork.
"Some tea?" I asked.
She looked up and smiled."I'd like that."
I walked towards the sink and washed the dishes, often glancing back to see Dawn eating the cake in delight. I smiled, She is eating. I don't know what you did but, I'll thank you when you're back, Serena.
As I was washing a cup, I stopped when the bell rung. We have a visitor.
