Prompt #1
I was laying in my bed, after such a wild night last night. I had no memory of what transpired. All I remember is that I was at a school dance. I blacked out all of a sudden, and the next thing I knew, I was at home, on my bed. My eyes were gazed upon the green ceiling, that matched the walls.
"Rebecca, time for school!" My mother hollered from downstairs. "Get your keister down here, so you can eat!"
Groaning, I rolled out of bed, falling onto to the soft carpeted floor. I quickly went into the bathroom, and closed the door. I squirted some toothpaste onto my toothbrush, and brushed my teeth. Then, I rinsed out, and proceeded downstairs to the kitchen, where I was greeted by the intoxicating aroma of bacon and eggs.
I sat down, and wolfed down my breakfast, like a fox eats his prey. After I was done, I rushed upstairs to change out of my blue gown, and into my school uniform. I put on my black knee high socks, and brown moccasins. I got my lunch money from my mother, and left the house without a good bye kiss. I waited at the bus stop, on a cool, crisp September morning. The bus arrived, and I quickly got on.
I was the only passenger on this bus. The bus driver didn't have to pick up anyone else. I was on my way to Foxworthy Private Academy, an all girls school, in Foxworthy, Delaware.
I arrived at the school, where the American flag, and Delaware state flag was waving with the blowing breeze. I walked up the stairs into the building, and as I walked through the doors, a bunch of my friends were huddled against the lockers with cowardly expressions planted on their faces.
"What's wrong, guys?" I asked, puzzled.
"It's what happened at the dance last night," replied Brittney.
"What did happen at the dance?"
"I cannot say," said Brittney, shaking like a leaf.
"Jennifer, can you explain?"
"Sorry, Becky! I can't!" Jennifer said, twiddling her finger through her curly, blonde hair.
"Elizabeth?" I demanded.
"My lips are sealed!" She said.
The rest of the girls didn't want to say either. I was at a loss. I couldn't quite put my finger on what went down last night. Only think I can think of, was I was dancing with a dude by the name of Brody. We had the best time ever. I cannot even fathom what scary thing may have occured last night. And everyone refused to tell me.
The warning bell rang, signaling for us to get to Homeroom. I went inside, trying to tie up loose ends. My Homeroom teacher, Mrs. Chen, came up towards me.
"Hello, are you feeling alright, Miss Thomas?" She asked.
"I don't even know," I replied. Every girl here is scared of something, and they refuse to tell me what it is."
"Perhaps, they don't feel comfortable sharing," said Mrs. Chen.
"I have every right to know!" I protested.
"No, you do not!" Mrs. Chen snapped. "How was the dance last night?"
"I blacked out towards the end," I explained. "I have very little memory of it. When I woke up, I was home in my bed. It's like I got teleported from here to my house. I cannot put the pieces together."
"I see," said Mrs. Chen. "We'll discuss this later, Miss Thomas. The morning announcements are about to start." She walked back to her desk. Her cell phone rang, and she had a conversation in Chinese.
Mr. Harrison, the school principal provided the morning announcements through the intercom. This is what he said.
"I understand that the entire student body is scared of what happened during the school dance last night. However, no one is talking. My suggestion to everyone, is to talk to your guidance counselor. But, please go on about your Friday as usual. First Period starts now."
The bell rang for First Period. I proceeded to American History. The hallways were filled with students, opening and closing lockers. It was unusually silent. Not much in the way of chatter. What was going on? Why wasn't anyone saying anything?
Was everyone keeping a secret from me?
