Ruth’s POV

(Dream)

It was the night after my sixteenth birthday and I was with a small group of friends at a party. I didn’t want to come, but they talked me into it. They were out on the dance floor while I was hiding in the corner.

I knew that most of the kids around me were part of my dad’s pack. But none of them knew that I had shifted, even my dad didn’t. “What are you doing by yourself beautiful?”A voice that I had always heard from a distant, spoke softly into my ear.

I turn and blush when I see Leo, the alpha’s nephew. “I-I don’t dance.” I say softly, dropping my eyes. He laughs softly and sits beside me. “Why don’t you have a drink?” He says as he holds a red solo cup out towards me.

I could hear Siochain begging me not to. She was telling me that something bad was going to happen, but I blocked her out. For once I wanted to feel like the rest of them: accepted.

I woke up to Jubal shaking me, calling my name. When my eyes opened, he sighed. How are you feeling lil’ sis?

Like crap. How’d I get in my room?

You don’t remember?

No.

Oliver said that he saw you running out of the school like you were running from the devil. And that you looked scared to death. What happened?

I don’t want to talk about it.

Ruth, tell me what happened. I can’t protect you if you don’t.

There’s nothing to protect me from Jubal. I say as I get off my bed. It’s in the past and that’s where I wish it to stay. He sighs and stands up. Did someone bother you in any way at school?

No! Jubal, listen to me please. I’d like to forget about it, so stop asking. I rush into my bathroom and lock the door behind me. Jubal paced in my room for several minutes before leaving. I slide to the floor and started sobbing. My eyes landed on the drawer that held my blade. But I knew that I couldn’t. The alpha would feel it as I slide the blade through my skin and tell Jubal.

Banging my head against the wall, I try to think of anything else beside him. Siochain was whining softly and I knew that she remembered the night as well. I stayed in that bathroom for hours, rocking myself and crying. Why did he have to show up just when I thought everything was going fine?

Jubal’s POV

I was in my office, but I couldn’t work on anything. Ruth’s sobs echoed through the house and I was just about ready to beat the crap out of the first wolf I laid eyes on. I grit my teeth and tried to figure out what caused this.

Suddenly I noticed that it was silent. Dread filled me as I rushed up the stairs back to her room. It took me just a matter of seconds to get the door unlocked and I threw it open. Only to find her curled up on the floor asleep. My heart broke at the sight of the broken look on her face as well as the tear stains on her cheeks.

Picking her up slowly, me lay her back on her bed and head back to the hall. Before I could step out of her room, I hear her whine and I turn around. Stepping back towards her, I open our link and focus on her. Soon, I found myself listening to her.

I watch as she smiles at a boy about her age and I could tell that they were lying in a bed. Suddenly, the door opens and several more walk in. Ruth’s face looks confused as she looks to the boy, but he only laughs. “This is what shifters like you deserve.” He sneers as he holds her down.

I pull out of her thoughts quickly, rage rolling off me. I couldn’t recognize any of their faces, but I knew they were wolves.

Jubal, how is Ruth?

She’s still sleeping Nate. I know why she was so cautious about telling me she was a liger. I then told him what happened. By the time I was finished, his growls rumbled in my head. I’m ordering a detail of warriors around her when she’s at school Jubal.

That’s fine Nate. I wish I could find the stupid idiots that hurt her. I’d enjoy killing them.  

If either of you need anything, just ask. He drops the link and I leave her room. Rubbing my face slowly, I head to the gym. I spend several hours in the basement working my anger out while keeping an ear turned towards my sister’s room.

The next morning I woke up early and made breakfast for the both of us. I already alerted Nate that I was going to take her to school and he told me that four of our best men would be waiting on us.

When Ruth came down the stairs, I noticed that something was a little off about her, but it wasn’t until we were getting into my car that I figured what it was. Instead of the bright long sleeved shirts she usually wore, she now had on a dark hoodie with her hair covering her face.

“Alpha Nate promised that you would have a guard around you today. If anyone bothers you, just tell them and they’ll take care of it.” She just nods and slips some earphones in. The car was filled with the sounds of her music.

Once we reached the school, I quickly saw the Alpha’s men, and I knew that he had picked the toughest wolves we had. They had never lost a battle, and I knew they would protect my sister with their lives. She steps out of the car and they surround her. Most of the teen wolves watch her, but when I growled at them, they dropped their eyes.  

Unknown’s POV

I waited for Oliver to come back to the pack house after school, but he never showed. I tried linking with him several times, but he had everyone blocked. As I lay on my bed trying to sleep, that night kept repeating in my mind. I knew it was wrong, what I did to the girl, and I wished that I could go back and change that night.

My parents never knew what I did, it stayed between the guys. But most nights, I would wake up sweating to the sounds of her screams. And tonight was no different. After trying to go back to sleep several times, I rolled out of bed at six. I get to school before most of the pack shows up and I wait for Oliver.

“Hey Oli, who was that chick you chased after yesterday?”

“Oh, that’s Ruth Boaz. The Beta’s sister.”

“You mean she’s a wolf?” I ask, but he shakes his head. “No, she’s human. I heard that her mom had an affair, so maybe that explains it.” My head snaps towards the parking lot when I hear a growl. I watch as four of my dad’s best guards group around my mate. Speaking to her would be harder than I thought. I think as I walk slowly into the school. The fact that my mate was human didn’t throw me off. She was mine and I meant to have her.
