5- The Interview and The Search

"What kind of game?" He asks, whilst I sit there wondering why this is relevant.

My mum somehow hears my thoughts, as she asks, "How is this relevant to finding Robin?"
"Ma'am, we have to be sure that your daughter didn't do anything. We need to find out all of the details, whether you like it, or not." Officer Dan replies, sternly.

That made my mum go red in the face. I could tell she wanted to blast at him. But if she did, she would get into trouble.
I looked at my mum and whispered "don't worry about it".

I then turned to the Officer Dan and said,
"We were playing hide and seek, that's all" I replied.

"Okay, and how long were you there for, roughly?"
"I don't know, maybe like 3 hours?" I said, glancing at my mum for approval
My mum nodded and said "Yes, we dropped them off at around 1pm, and it's now 4:15pm"
"So you mean to tell me--" Officer Dan began, before being interrupted by a crackly walkie talkie.

"We have searched the river and the woods, but there is no sign of the boy sir. We may need emotional support for Robin's mum. We will look again tomorrow, it's getting dark out now" Officer Phil's jolly voice came through the walking talkie.

"She's already lost one man in her life already, she can't bare to lose another one!" My mother exclaimed. She started to cry a little.

Officer Dan showed no sympathy at all, as he coughed loudly and said, " We must continue the interview, as I was saying..."
He got cut off by my mum as she said "don't you have any sympathy?! We need to go and confront Robin's mum, I don't care what you say!"

"Ma'am, I would be careful about what you're saying- you could get into a lot of trouble for speaking to an officer like that"

Then my mum glared at him and told him to continue the interview, if he must.

"Finally. As I was saying, Mrs Brown, you mean to tell me that you just left those children in the woods to play?" He asked, whilst staring at my mum.

"No, of course not! We live less than 5 minutes away. Myself and Mrs Waters were at my house, the children knew we were there." My mother replied.

Officer Dan looked at me, his eyes questioning me, asking me if my mother was telling the truth.
"That's very true. But I thought you were interviewing me?" I replied, to his eyes.

"I am still interviewing you, but since your mother is here, I should address this issue now. May I ask your age Louise? Oh, and Robin's age" Officer Dan finally spoke with his mouth.

"Okay, seems smart. I'm 9 years old, and Robin is 10, but he only turned 10 last week" I said, remembering how fun the party was. It was in his garden, and his mum hired a bouncy castle. There were balloons everywhere, in Robin's favourite colour, teal.

My memories were bursted when I heard my mum arguing, yet again.

"That isn't right! They're very responsible children! We always let them do that- even ask Mrs Waters!" I heard my mum yell.

"What happened?" I ask, confused, and worried. Not every 9 year old sees their mother crying. It wasn't something I wanted to see- ever. She was the strongest woman I knew.

"Your mother, and potentially Mrs Waters, could be arrested- for abandoning children in the woods. I agree, they left you to play, but children of your age should never be left without supervision." Officer Dan's monotone voice replied. He was so natural about it. He made me so angry. I was about to start yelling at him when the walkietalkie went off again.
"Dan, Mrs Waters is emotionally stable now, we think. We don't think there is any chance of finding the child now. Please let the other two know." Officer Phil said over the Walkie talkie. Officer Dan spoke to us with his eyes again.
I immediately burst into tears. I couldn't imagine a world without Robin. I loved him. He was my best friend. Life without Robin. Woah. It was so hard to imagine.
My mum was also crying next to me. I had no clue what was going through her head.

"Okay, we need to ask Mrs Waters a few questions, bring her to the car please" Officer Dan responded.
"On it" Officer Phil replied. I could feel his happy vibes through the walkie talkie, even though I had been crying.

After a few minutes, the car door opened. My eyes met with a very red eyed Mrs Waters.

"Alright Mrs Waters, just a few questions for you..."

Little did I know that those few questions would drastically change my life as I knew it.
