Chapter 9

After the confrontation with the two Hydra agents, Donnie had caught up to his friends, seeing that they stopped to wait for him a little ways around the corner. "Everything ok, Donnie?" Alex asked, noticing how Donnie housed a slightly angered expression on his face. "Yeah, I'm fine. But I was right about those guys following me." Donnie explained as he calmed down a bit. Before his friends noticed the phone, Donnie smoothly placed it in his jean pocket. "What happened?" Zach asked curiously. Not wanting to scare anyone, Donnie stated his actions as simply as he could. "I took care of the main guy that confronted me while the other ran away afterwards." Donnie explained cooley. "How did you 'take care' of the one guy?" Skye asked, using air quotes around "take care." Donnie sighed. "I'll tell you if you don't freak out or think differently of me." Donnie said cautiously. After seeing everyone give him nods of agreement, Donnie spoke again after a few seconds. "I froze him." Donnie answered simply, as if it was a normal thing. When he saw everyone staying silent, he continued. "I know it doesn't sound that great, but those guys keep popping up everywhere, and it's getting on my nerves. When they confronted me back there, I couldn't stop myself. And I really didn't want to." Donnie said, mumbling the last bit to himself. Feeling the slightly awkward silence start to set amongst the group of friends, Tony decided to speak up. "Well, since they're gone now, why don't we go hang out at your place like we had originally planned?" He suggested, receiving a grateful look from Donnie at the change of the subject. Getting nods of approval, everyone dropped the previous subject as they began to walk again, heading towards Donnie's house.

Later that night, after almost everyone had left, both Hannah and Skye hung around. Starting to feel uncomfortable with the silence that developed the three friends, Skye decided to speak up. "Just so you know, Gill, I don't think of or view you any differently now than I did before." She told him, teasingly using his last name. Donnie smirked a little. "I take it we're on that Last Name Baseis level, so, thanks, Miller." Donnie said, returning the joking tone as he smiled brightly at his friend. "I agree. I don't see or think of you any differently either, Helmet." Hannah said reassuringly as she gently smiled at the boy. "I'm glad neither of you see me differently." Donnie said, smiling at both of his friends. "So, does the phone you have in your pocket belong to that agent you froze earlier?" Skye asked suddenly and curiously, having seen Donnie place the phone in his pocket earlier. "Yeah. It does." Donnie said with a defeated sigh. "Anything interesting on it?" Skye slightly proded with a small smirk. "Just a message that mentioned the location Maribel Del Mar." Donnie said simply, wanting to brush off the subject. Not saying anything, Hannah looked genuinely interested yet confused. "I wonder what they want with that location." Hannah wondered aloud. "I don't know what they'd want with it." Donnie simply said with a shrug.

After changing the subject and watching a movie, Skye had gotten a message from her parents, asking her to come home, leaving Donnie and Hannah alone as they sat on the couch in the living room. Hannah, too busy having an internal battle with herself, didn't hear Donnie call her name a few times in attempt to get her attention. "Hannah?" Donnie asked a little louder this time as he waved his hand in front of her face, successfully getting her attention as she quickly turned to him, pulling herself away from her thoughts. "Yeah?" Hannah responded after clearing her mind. "You ok? Looked like you were pretty deep in thought there since you looked so zoned out." Donnie said. "Uh, yeah. I'm fine. Sorry about that." Hannah brushed off, deciding to keep to herself about what she was just thinking about. "It's getting late. I should probably think about heading home." Hannah added before Donnie could say anything more. "Would you like for me to walk you home?" Donnie offered with a gentle smile as he stood from his place on the couch. "No, that's ok." Hannah said as she stood up as well. "I insist." Donnie said. "It's really no trouble to insure you get home safe, Ms. Baker." He added, successfully making Hannah laugh as she caved in and nodded her head. "Ok. I suppose you could walk me home, Mr. Gill." Hannah replied, using his last name like he had used hers. This made Donnie smile as he held out his right hand, Hannah placing her hand in his as she felt a light blush cover her cheeks.

As the two walked towards Hannah's house together, they talked about the most random things, such as what zombies are good for, Donnie's defense being that they are extremely slow and only go after brains, making them seem quite pointless. As they reached her house, Hannah smiled over at her friend. "Thanks for walking me home." She said. "Really, it was no problem at all." Donnie said, returning a smile. Hannah stared into his captivating eyes for a few seconds before suddenly moving forward and pulled him into a hug as she wrapped her arms around his shoulders. Slightly taken by surprise, Donnie slowly wrapped his arms around the girl's waist, gently pulling her a little closer to him as he did so. When Hannah pulled away, she smiled and thanked the boy again before making her way up the driveway and into her house. After watching her go inside, Donnie started making his way back to his own home again.

Later on, after entering his room and getting ready for bed, Donnie sat in his bed having himself propped up with pillows against the wall as he blankly stared ahead of him. As he stared at nothing in particular, Donnie thought back to his confrontation with the two Hydra agents and the message he had found on the one agent's phone. Suddenly getting an idea, Donnie started planning the next steps in his head as he moved to set his phone alarm before lying down and soon letting sleep take him over, welcoming it since he knew he had a long day ahead of him.
