Chapter 36
Once Monday finally rolled around, Donnie was still determined to have a little talk with Monty about what he had done and said to Hannah just the other day.
After he took a shower and got dressed for the day, Donnie packed up his homework and anything else he'd need for school before placing his backpack over his shoulder and walking down the stairs. When he got to the kitchen, Donnie noticed that the two adults were already gone, so the boy fixed himself a light breakfast before heading out the front door and locking in behind him. Donnie then proceeded to get on his bike and make his way towards Hannah's house to walk with her to school.
"Hey, Helmet." Hannah greeted with a small smile after she opened the front door after he had knocked on it. "Hey." Donnie greeted back with a soft, warm smile. Holding out his arm, Hannah blushed slightly as she linked her arm through his and they started their treck to school together, Donnie guiding his bike with his free hand beside him as they walked. As the pair walked together, a comfortable silence fell over them, which Donnie didn't mind at all. He rather enjoyed the non-awkward silence between them as his thoughts went back to the events that happened a few days ago, making Donnie get angered as he remembered what Monty had said and done to Hannah. As the thoughhs continued to swirl around in his head, his want to beat the jock up became even stronger.
When they finally reached the school, Donnie and Hannah walked together over to the bike rack so that Donnie could secure his bike there for the day. "Hey, slut. Did you change your mind about my offer?" A voice called, making Donnie's blood boil at the mere, familiar sound of it. Hearing the voice, Hannah instantly tensed up as she froze in slight panic. Taking note of this, Donnie quickly stood up straight, having had enough. "Leave her alone, Monty." He said, anger and protectiveness easily detectable in his voice. "Why should I? We all know it's true. I mean, she did it with Bryce, Justin, and who knows who else she's done it with so far. We all know she would gladly do it with you the second you asked. Although I doubt you'd even have to ask. Just face it, Clay. Your girlfriend's not innocent like you. She's a slut." Monty said, making tears form in Hannah's eyes as she felt people protectively standing beside her. Glancing over, she saw it was Kat, Jessica, and Skye who were standing next to her. With another glance around, Hannah had noticed that a crowd had started to form, Justin, Jeff, Tony, Zach, Alex, and Sherri being among the growing crowd. "I'd honestly be surprised if she hasn't already done it with every guy at this school. Everyone knows she's just using you, Jensen. Once she gets what she wants from you, she'll forget you even exist and move on to the next guy." Monty added. Having heard enough, Donnie glared heavily at Monty.
Letting his anger drive his next actions, Donnie lunged right for Monty, tackling the jock to the ground before pinning him there and throwing punch after punch anywhere he could land his fists.
After Donnie got a few good punches in, he felt Monty get an upper hand as he was somehow able to push Donnie off of him before pinning him to the ground and punching him. "You think she really means it when she says that she loves you, Jensen? She's just saying that and playing with your feelings to get what she wants. Once she gets that, she'll forget all about you and move on." Monty said as he kept throwing punches at Donnie, some landing on his face while others were aimed towards his stomach. As the fighting went on, Hannah could only watch as she found herself frozen in place, all her friends now standing by and around her. "That's not true. None of it is." Donnie exclaimed, finding his chance as he found enough strength to throw Monty off of him, the two quickly getting up before one could pin the other to the ground again. "It is true, and you know it, Jensen. You just don't want to admit that the one girl who actually liked you back was faking it the whole time." Monty said. Feeling his anger build towards the smug-looking, smirking jock again, Donnie put all his anger into his next blow, aiming right towards the center of Monty's face. As soon as his fist landed on its target, Monty immediatly brought his hand up to his nose as he felt blood flow freely, followed by an intense pain. Knowing what he did, Donnie smirked at the jock. "You wanna say stuff like that when it's not true, be my guest. Anyone can say things like that. But if you do, be prepared to have to deal with me. You got lucky, Monty. Next time, I won't go so easy on you. If I hear you saying stuff like that again, your nose won't be the only thing broken." Donnie said, addressing the crowd that had formed as well. As Monty used his shirt sleeve to wipe the blood from his now-broken nose, Donnie glanced down at his hand to to see that it was a little bloody and noticably bruised. "Hey, what's going on here?! Break it up, break it up!" A voice was heard as people started moving to the side, out of the person's way. Turning towards the voice, Donnie saw that it belonged to Mr. Porter. "Nothing to see here, folks. Get to class!" Mr. Porter ordered, the crowd breaking up pretty quickly as the students all rushed to leave the scene and get to their classes. "Cruz, Jensen, come with me. Now!" Mr. Porter ordered, a stern look on his face as he lead the two beat up teens into the school and towards his office, leaving Hannah and her friends standing frozen in their place.
After Mr. Porter finally dismissed the two boys from his office, Donnie walked to his locker, instantly spotting Hannah and the rest of his friends there as they waited for him while other students walked by, going to their next classes. "What happened? What did Mr. Porter do?" Jeff asked as soon as Donnie reached his locker. "He suspended me for four days, and he suspended Monty for a week." Donnie said as he opened his locker and started gathering his things. "Was the suspension worth it?" Skye asked curiously, knowing that Donnie had never been suspended before. Donnie smiled to himself. "Definitely worth it." He said, glancing to his bruised and still-bloody hand before turning and lightly smiling at Skye the best he could since his jaw was sore from Monty landing a few punches there during the fight earlier.
After talking with his friends for a few more minutes, they all left as they had to get to their respective classes. As they left, Donnie turned back towards his locker to continue getting his things together. "You didn't have to do that, Donnie. Get suspended for me like that." Hannah spoke softly but still loud enough for the boy to hear. "What Monty said isn't true. You know that, right? I'm not with you just because I want sex or anything. I'm with you because I love you. All those things Monty said are just rumors. I really do love you, Donnie." Hannah said, saying his real name sice they were the only two in the hallway. Donnie smiled a small smile before leaning in, capturing her in a soft, slow, meaningful kiss. "Trust me, I know. And I love you too." He whispered as he slightly pulled away. "I was going to beat Monty up regardless, because Kat told me what he said and did to you the other day." Donnie said. "Me getting suspended for beating him up and breaking his nose was definitely worth it. He just made it worse by saying those things that I know aren't true. Besides, you forgave Justin for the whole picture thing after he explained that Bryce got ahold of his phone and sent it out." Donnie said. "Bottom line, like I clearly stated earlier, whoever wants to say stuff like that about you, they can say it. But they will need to be prepared to get beat up by me if they do say stuff like that. I'm your boyfriend. I'm supposed to get mad and protective with stuff like this. It's part of my job description." Donnie said, making Hannah slightly chuckle at his last statement she smiled a small smile for the first time since the fight took place. "Will you be ok for the rest of the day?" Donnie asked as he closed his locker and swung his bag over his shoulder. "Yeah, I'll be fine. Besides. I've got the rest of our friends here with me too." She said, smiling up at him. Donnie returned the smile. "Thanks for doing that for me, Helmet." Hannah said after a few seconds of silence as she smiled gratefully at the slightly taller, ice-powered boy. "Really, it was no problem. I'd beat up any guy who says anything like that about you in a heartbeat." Donnie said. Not finding any words to say after hearing that statement from her boyfriend, Hannah pulled Donnie into a strong hug, resting her head against his shoulder and smiling when she felt him return the hug and pull her even closer to him, if that was even possible, while resting his head against her shoulder as well.
After the two were confronted by Mr. Porter and had to go their seperate ways as Mr. Porter sent Donnie home for the rest of the day because of his suspension starting today, the black haired boy made his way out of the school and towards the bike rack to get his bike. Not having anything better to do, Donnie was slow to make his way home as he road his bike around town for a while before going back to his house to find that both adults were still not home. After Donnie cleaned himself up and wiped the dried blood off of his face and hand, the boy looked at himself in the mirror after removing his shirt, already seeing bruises start to form over his face and stomach, along with a few cuts that decorated his face here and there. After putting his shirt back on, Donnie dropped his bag of in his room before going downstairs and taking a seat on the couch as be decided to turn the tv on and see if anything good was on and worth watching.
