Chapter 25

The next day, surprisingly, school wasn't all that eventful throughout the day. Hannah and Donnie hadn't seen a certain popular senior jock around for the last couple days. They weren't complaining about it, but still, it was unexpected to not run into the jock. It seemed a little weird that Bryce hadn't shown up to school for a couple days. With the school day being so uneventful, it seemed to be going by at the slowsest pace possible, each class seemingly lasting for hours on end.

After a slow lunch and even more slow-to-pass classes, when school was finally over, Donnie walked Hannah home again, the two being consumed in small talk as they walked together, their hands joined between them as it became a natural thing between the pair. "So, Helmet. Do you have any plans for today?" Hannah questioned the black haired boy. "Besides going home and burrying myself alive in homework? Not that I know of. Why do you ask?" Donnie replied, joking at the beginning as he smiled down at the girl walking beside him. "I was just curious. Since you don't seem to have any plans, how about we hang out at my house and maybe get some homework done together?" Hannah suggested. "That way I can make sure you don't burry yourself in your homework." Hannah added jokingly. "Sure. Sounds fun. Maybe we can go on another date this Friday? The whole moon-watching date thing still stands." Donnie replied with a gentle smile. "Well how can I even turn that date offer down? I'd love to go on another date with you this Friday." Hannah said happily, kissing Donnie's cheek lightly as they reached the driveway to the girl's house.

"Hey, Mom." "Hey, Mrs. Baker." Hannah and Donnie greeted the older woman at the same time as the couple walked into the kitchen. "Oh, hey, guys." Mrs. Baker greeted the two after glancing up from what she was doing at the kitchen counter. "What are you doing?" Hannah asked curiously. "I'm actually trying to convense your father to run to the store to get a few things for me since I'm a little busy at the moment." Mrs. Baker explained. "How about Hannah and I do that for you real quick? I honestly wouldn't mind." Donnie spoke. "Are you sure?" Mrs. Baker asksd him. "Yeah. It's really no trouble at all. We'll go get whatever you need and be back within an hour or so." Hannah answered with a smile, Donnie nodding in agreement. "Well, ok then. Let me make a list for you guys before you go." Mrs. Baker said as she grabbed a small piece of paper and a pen, looking through the kitchen as she wrote down everything she needed from the grocery store.

As the couple walked out of the store together, Hannah walking beside Donnie while he pushed the shopping cart, the two mindlessly talked about anything and everything. "I just really wish he never did that to me and Jess." Hannah said, their conversation somehow ending up with the subject being Bryce Walker. "He's a total jerk who needs to be put in his place in jail." Hannah added as she opened the trunk to her car and started placing the grocery bags inside. While the girl wasn't paying attention, Donnie quickly placed a not-so-scary mask, which he had managed to get without his girlfriend noticing, over his face. The minute the girl turned around to face him, Donnie swiftly moved towards her slightly while holding his hands up like they were claws, attempting to scare her. The girl jumped slightly before starting to laugh while smiling at him. "Is that supposed to scare me, Donnie?" She asked while still laughing and smiling at him. The boy then lifted the mask up, resting it on the top of his head. "No. You don't have to be scared of anything." He said as he suddenly became serious. Hannah only smiled at him even more as a few tears came to her eyes. Seeing this, Donnie moved forward, wrapping his girlfriend in a tight, comforting hug. In response, Hannah tightly wrapped her arms around his neck, pulling him even closer - if that was even possible. "Thanks, Donnie." Hannah said into the boy's shoulder. Feeling Donnie gently tighten his grip in response, Hannah smiled into his shoulder as the couple stayed in their hug for a few minutes. "You're honestly the best boyfriend a girl could ever hope to have, Helmet. How did I even get lucky enough to be with you?" Hannah said after they broke away from the hug. Donnie smiled at her words. "I think it's the other way around. You're such a great girl, and I'm extremely lucky I get to call you my girlfriend." Donnie said, making the girl blush a bit. "We both deserve what we have right now. And that's each other." Donnie added with a warm smile. "And no matter what we go through, and what we've gone through so far, I don't plan to leave you any time soon." Donnie said. "Actually, let me rephrase that. I don't plan to leave you. Ever." He restated, putting emphasis on the last word. "You're honestly the best, Donnie. I love how you're different from all the other guys at Liberty. I like how you can play the bad guy at times if you really want to, but you can also be really sweet, sensitive and caring when you want to as well. That's one of the things I love about you. I also love how you always want to keep me safe and protect me. I love that protective side of you." Hannah said, smiling as she saw her boyfriend blushing a bit. "I really love the fact that you're never afraid to be yourself around me. You never try to be someone your not, just to impress me. I fell in love with you for just simply being you." Donnie said, making Hannah blush now too.

After a few minutes, Donnie and Hannah got into the car, Hannah in the driver seat with Donnie in the passenger seat. "I meant what I said though. About you not having to be scared of anything. Don't let him get to you. He's only one jerk of a guy who doesn't know how to truely treat and respect girls." Donnie said, staring right into his girlfriend's eyes as he spoke. "You're right. I can't let him control my life with fear. Besides what he did doesn't make it the end of the world. Even if it felt like the world was ending, I can't let what he did single handedly ruin the rest of my life." Hannah said, Donnie smiling at her words. "Exactly. And I'll be there right by your side every step of the way. I promise." Donnie said, leaning forward with Hannah meeting him halfway as the two briefly shared a kiss before Hannah started the car's engine and the two started to make their way back to the Baker's house.
