Chapter 18

As the night slowly went by, Hannah found herself being woken up a second time by another very realistic nightmare as she quickly sat up in bed, feeling hotter than she felt before. Realizing the very few water droplets decorating her arms and face were sweat, she glanced around her room in search for one thing in particular: the ice-powered boy she had recently admitted her feelings to - Donnie Gill. "Donnie?" She quietly questioned to herself after realizing he was not in her room.

After deciding to wait a few minutes to see if her friend would come back, Hannah decided to get up and look for him. Before she even stood up; however, she noticed a small piece of paper resting neatly on her bedside table. Seeing a familiar cartoon rabit on the paper, Hannah smiled. "Try the living room" was written in the speach bubble above the smiling bunny's head. Following what the rabit drawing advised, Hannah stood up and left her room, quietly going straight towards the living room.

When Hannah spotted her friend quietly sitting on the couch with the tv on and the volume turned down low, the girl noticed how she suddenly felt more relaxed and happy as she just stood in her place for a minute and watched him. When Hannah moved closer to the couch, she realized that Donnie was asleep when she saw how his head was resting against the couch cushion and his eyes were closed. Debating whether or not to disturb the sleeping boy, Hannah quietly and carefully moved to sit next to him on the couch, being successful in not waking him as she did so. She was even more careful not to wake him as she slowly and gently moved a little closer to him, lightly placing her head on his shoulder.

"Couldn't sleep either, Baker?" A soft voice suddenly asked, slightly startling the girl as she pulled away to look at her friend, seeing that his eyes were now open and his face housed a gentle smile as he looked down at her. "I'm sorry, Donnie. I didn't mean to wake you." Hannah apologized. "You didn't wake me. I was already awake. Just had my eyes closed." Donnie said reassuringly. "You sure?" Hannah asked. "Positive." Donnie said with a warm smile and a nod of his head as he placed an arm around Hannah's shoulders and gently pulled her closer to him. "I just couldn't really fall asleep. That's why I came out here. I thought watching tv would help, but it really hasn't so far." Donnie explained. "I couldn't sleep either." Hannah told him quietly. "You couldn't?" Donnie asked curiously. "Nightmares." Hannah stated simply, making Donnie completely understand after hearing that one word. "What are they about?" He asked, already having a pretty good idea about the answer to his question." "You don't have to tell me if you don't want to." He quickly added after seeing his friend noticably tense up a bit. "No, it's ok." Hannah told him before sighing to herself. "They're about you. And what happened. They always seem extremely realistic and are about you actually being killed while there's nothing I can do about it." Hannah told him. "Hey, it's ok. I'm ok. Alive and here with you. They're just nightmares. Besides. I'm here to stay this time, because I'm not going anywhere. I'll be right here if you ever need me." Donnie said reassuringly as he gently tightened his comforting grip around Hannah's shoulders. "You promise?" Hannah asked him, not meeting his gaze as she stared at her hands as they rested in her lap. Donnie used his free arm as he gently placed his hand under the girl's chin to get her to look at him. "I promise. You're going to be stuck with me for a very long time, Baker. Whether you like it or not." He said as he stared right into her eyes, joking at the last part, successfully making Hannah smile at him - a real, genuine smile. "Better?" He asked after gently placing a kiss to the girl's forehead. "Not quite." Hannah said, smiling to herself. "How could I be of service in making it better, Ms. Baker?" Donnie asked, talking like a butler would. Hannah couldn't help but laugh at the boy beside her. "You could go get us a blanket." She said after a few seconds of pretending to think. "As you wish." Donnie said before quickly and quietly jogging out of the room to get the desired object, leaving a quietly laughing Hannah behind on the living room couch.

"Anything else you require me to do, Ms. Baker?" Donnie asked with a grin after coming back with a warm blanket in his hands. Hannah smiled as she stood from the couch, looking at her friend thoughtfully before slightly smirking. "Lie down on the couch." She said, taking the blanket from the boy's hands. Donnie nodded in response, not even questioning his friend as he got comfortable on the couch, lying flat on his back. Donnie looked up at Hannah, silently asking "what now?" Hannah smiled before getting on the couch herself, lying on top of her friend as she placed her head over his chest, right above his heart. Getting the hint, Donnie covered the two with the blanket before wrapping his arms around the girl and holding her close to his chest. Hannah smiled to herself as she felt Donnie's grip pull her closer to him. "I love you, Donnie." She said, the words coming out before she even realized what she was saying. Donnie only smiled to himself for a few seconds before hugging her gently and kissing her forehead affactionately. "I love you too, Hannah." He replied, making the girl blush at his words. "You don't have to worry about me going anywhere. I'll be right here when you wake up." Donnie said, Hannah knowing he ment what he was saying, resulting in her smiling at him. In response, Hannah gently closed the space between the two, lightly and passionately kissing the ice-powered boy. Donnie smiled as he returned the kiss. When Hannah broke their kiss, Donnie still smiled brightly, making Hannah return a warm smile of her own. "Also, I know this is a bit late, but don't worry about Bryce. I'll make sure he doesn't try anything with you again. I promise." Donnie said, feeling Hannah tense slightly at the use of Bryce's name, but relax again after hearing his promise. "Thanks, Donnie. That means a lot to me. More than you'll ever know." Hannah told him, kissing his cheek before resting her head on his chest once again. Donnie smiled. "Don't worry. With me here, I'll make sure he doesn't do anything in your dreams too." Donnie added, relaxing into the couch as he and Hannah both let the sleep finally take them over.
