Chapter 14
The next day, Sunday, Hannah woke up and sluggishly sat up in bed. She checked the time on her phone, seeing that it was 11:15am. She also saw a few text messages from her friends: some from Jessica, Skye, and Sherri, and others from Tony, Alex, Justin, and Jeff. All were wanting asking how she was doing or if she felt like hanging out or doing something out of the house. Ignoring the texts for now, Hannah decided to get dressed before making her way downstairs to the kitchen where she saw her mother and Mrs. Jensen talking. "Good morning, Hannah." Mrs. Jensen greeted kindly as she was the first to see the girl. "How did you sleep last night?" Mrs. Baker asked her daughter with a warm smile. "Good morning, Mrs. Jensen. I slept ok last night. I've gotten less sleep before, though." Hannah said, answering both women as she fixed herself some breakfast out of the food sitting on the counter. "What are you guys talking about?" Hannah asked, wanting to change the subject. The two women glanced at each other before turning back to Hannah. "We were just deciding what to do when your father and Mr. Jensen get back later." Hannah's mother said. "Did they ever say specifically what they found or anything?" Hannah asked. "Not specifically, no. They just said to have a pretty big space ready that they can set it on when they get here." Mrs. Jensen said. "You mean like a table or something?" Hannah asked curiously. "Yeah. Something like that. They said it would need to be a flat surface that wasn't against the wall or in a small room. It would need to have a good bit of sace around it." Mrs. Jensen answered. "We might need to just set a space on the kitchen table. That might be our best option." Mrs. Baker thought aloud. "Do you know specifically when they will be back?" Hannah asked. "Not yet. They said they'd let us know when they're about an hour away." Mrs. Baker told her daughter. "Ok. Hey, is it ok if I go out with some friends?" Hannah asked, deciding it might be a good idea to get out for a while. "Yeah, of course." Mrs. Baker said with a warm smile. "Will you let me know if you hear anything else from them or when they say they're almost here?" Hannah asked. "We will." Mrs. Baker replied, Mrs. Jensen nodding in agreement.
"I'm glad you decided to come hang out with us, Hannah." Jessica said as she greeted her friend, followed by Zach, Alex, Sherri, Justin, Skye, Jeff, and Tony. "Me too. I thought it would be a good idea to get out for a bit, anyway." Hannah said with a small smile. "So, got anything specific we plan to do?" Hannah asked her friends. "Movie?" Jeff suggested. After everyone happily agreed to Jeff's suggestion, they headed to the Crestmont, debating about what movie they'd see.
After debating the whole way there, the group had chosen a classic - Jurassic Park. For Hannah, it was bitter-sweet, because it was a movie she liked and enjoyed, but it was also one of Donnie's favorite movies as well. She decided to keep quiet and enjoy it as best she could though so her friends wouldn't have to go through choosing a different movie that everyone would agree on.
As the group of friends left the theater after the movie ended, Hannah felt a buzz come from her phone that rested in the front right pocket of her jeans. Feeling it buzz continuously, she knew someone was calling her. As she pulled her phone out of her pocket, Hannah saw that her mother was the one calling her. "Hey, mom." Hannah said after accepting the call and placing the phone against her right ear. Hannah's friends stopped talking when they heard Hannah on the phone with her mom. They all stayed quiet as they saw Hannah's expressions change from worry to confussion then to shock. "What do you think that's about?" Sherri whispered curiously. "Maybe it's something about her dad and Mr. Jensen getting back." Skye said, matching Sherri's whispering tone. "Getting back? Where did they go?" Justin asked. "Oh, well they went back down to where Donnie....you know." Skye started, not being able to fully say what had happened to her friend a few weeks ago. "Anyway, they went back down there because they got a call from the coast guards saying they might've found something." Skye finished. "A body?" Zach questioned unsure. "I'm not exactly sure what they found. But Hannah's dad said that Mrs. Baker and Mrs. Jensen thought of this theory about Donnie." Sherri said. "What's the theory?" Jeff asked. "They think that since nothing ever resurfaced, when Donnie fell into the ocean, his powers might've made his body freeze itself, causing him to sink to the bottom rather than float back to the surface of the ocean." Jessica explained just as Hannah ended the phone call and walked back over to the group." "What's up?" Tony asked the girl as she joined the others. "My dad and Mr. Jensen are back home already. My mom said she tried calling me earlier while we were at the movie." Hannah said. "Are they at your house?" Alex asked. Hannah nodded her head in reply. "Well, let's go then!" Zach exclaimed as the group started walking back to where their cars were parked before making their way to Hannah's house.
"I hope they found Donnie." Skye said as she rode in a car with Jessica, Sherri, Hannah, and Jeff. "Me too." Jeff said in agreement. "I mean, that kid was and still is my best friend. Even if we met through me having to get a tutor, I'm still glad we became friends. And I know he'd kill me for telling you this, Hannah, but he does feel the same way you do. He's just been hesitant about telling you because of his background. He doesn't want you suddenly being put in danger because of him. But then all this happened." Jeff said, sighing at the end. "Donnie feels the same way?" Hannah asked in response to Jeff's confession. "That's what I just said." Jeff said with a chuckle. "But don't let him know I told you that. He'd kill me if he found out." Jeff said, half joking and half being completely serious. Hannah turned to stare out the window as she felt a smile spread across her face at the new information from Jeff. Hannah's smile slowly faded as Jessica parked her car in the driveway to her house. Everyone piled out of Jessica's car as they saw another car park in front of the house on the side of the street. Hannah watched as Alex, Zach, and Justin got out of the car. Hannah then heard the familiar roar of Tony's red mustang pull up and park in front of her house as well. After everyone got out of the cars and gathered in one group, they all anxiously made their way towards the front door, Hannah slowly opening the door and walking in with everyone else following close behind.
