Chapter 12
"Where are you taking me?" Agent Simmons - a Shield agent working undercover as a newly recruited Hydra agent - questioned the two large, buff men leading her down a long hallway. "Thank you. Thanks very much." She said sarcastically after getting no reply from the two men walking behind her. As the three turned a corner, the sound of guns being cocked could be heard. "Ms. Simmons. Do you have anything warmer?" Mr. Bakshi, another member of Hydra asked after turning away from the geared up Hydra agents and seeing the woman's black short sleeved shirt. In reply, she slightly shook her head. "I'll grab you something before we leave." Mr. Bakshi said. "Leave? Where to?" Agent Simmons asked. "We've found Donnie Gill." Mr. Bakshi simply stated. "We've tried bringing him into the fold before. Now we have a second chance. With you - a friendly, honest face. Maybe we'll have better luck." Mr. Bakshi explained, smirking at the end. "He's dangerous, isn't he?" Agent Simmons asked. "Don't worry. We'll have your back every step of the way." Mr. Bakshi reassured. "Suit up." He ordered after one geared up agent handed him a black jacket, in which he handed the article of clothing to Agent Simmons. "It's going to get cold." He commented before leaving towards the ready-to-go transportation, the other agents and Simmons following behind, Simmons being slightly hesitant but able to hide it well as she walked with the others.
"You have no idea what you are bringing down on yourself." A crew member on the Maribel Del Mar ship said, holding his hands up in a surrendering gesture as Donnie stood in front of him angrily. "We will find you." The man added. "I know. I want to be left alone. But you people won't stop coming after me." Donnie spoke angrily. "So I'm done hiding. It's time Hydra learned once and for all...I'm not interested. I'm not afraid." Donnie continued before suddenly grabbing the crew member's neck, freezing him before the man even knew what was happening. "I'm pissed off. And every Hydra agent they send is going to feel it." Donnie finished, staring directly into the now-frozen man's terrified eyes.
Agent Simmons and Mr. Bakshi talked as they got off the helicopter and made their way towards the frozen-in-place cargo ship. "I'll be listening to everything. You run into any trouble, I'll be in your ear, talking you through it." The man said as he handed Simmons a communicating device to wear. "And what if he doesn't respond well?" Simmons asked as she put the communicating device on. "Then I suppose there will be a job opening at our laboratory." Mr. Bakshi said, sounding completely serious rather than joking.
"Trip says two minutes out." Mr. Baker says as he walks over to where everyone, including Hannah and her friends, is gathered. "Remember, Donnie Gill's a gifted. He could be a formidable weapon for either side. Let's make sure it's ours." Coulson says as he walks over and pushs a button near the back of the large plane, opening a large door that the geared up agents jump out of to get to the ship.
"Hello? Donnie?" Simmons questions aloud as she cautiously walks throughout the inside of the large ship, slightly being startled when she spots a few frozen crew members along the way. "I'm looking for...I'm looking for Donnie Gill." Simmons says as she descends a flight of stairs, her voice echoing through the ship. "Hello?" She questions again as she continues walking. "You may not remember me." She starts, trying a different tactic to get Donnie's attention. Simmons suddenly stops; however, when Donnie suddenly comes from around the corner and stops in front of her. "Agent Simmons?" Donnie asks. "Donnie." Simmons says in reply, smiling slightly. "It's nice to see you again." She tells him. "Who- who sent you?" Donnie asked, dismissing her comment. "Shield? Hydra? What-what side did you end up on?" Donnie questioned as he started walking forward, making Simmons have to start backing up as he got closer. "I'd like to think I'm on your side." Simmons told him as calmly as she could muster. "Get close to him. Convince him you want to help him." Simmons heard Bakshi's voice come through the small device he had given her. "I saved your life once. I heard you were in trouble. Please, I...I need you to hear me out." Simmons told Donnie.
"Coulson, we're not alone." Hannah, her friends, Agent Trip, and Agent Coulson heard Agent May come through the computer. "Not what I'd hoped, but not unexpected." Coulson said as he and the others looked at a large screen that showed a camera angle of the port and cargo ship from their plane. "Proceed. Let me know when you have eyes on Gill." Coulson ordered. "Copy that." Agent May's voice replied.
"Fitz would talk about you. He described the blueprints he saw in your room. He was quite impressed. And Fitz is very hard to impress." Simmons said as she kept talking to Donnie. "Get him to trust you." Simmons heard the voice come through her comm device again. "You're a lot like him. Like both of us, really. We're scientists. Wired to solve problems." Simmons spoke. "Maybe before. It's different now." Donnie said coldly. "Oh, I don't believe you. You must miss it. Minds like ours...they need to be used." Simmons said. "I'm tired of being used." Donnie exclaimed, starting to get agry again. "Don't let him get angry." Simmons heard Mr. Bakshi's voice advise. "Repeat what I say." She heard the man say. "Take a deep breath. And clear your mind. Surrender, and you will find meaning. Surrender, and you will find release." Simmons spoke, repeating what she was told. "Agent Simmons." Donnie spoke, shaking his head a little as he sounded a bit dazed now. "Take a deep breath." Simmons repeated, her eyes beginning to get watery, not wanting to do this to the now-distressed-looking boy standing in front of her.
"Hydra recruited Gill?" Coulson questioned as he was talking to Fitz and another agent who stayed back home. "They brainwashed him. And they're going to re-trigger his programming if they can." One of the two replied. "How do you know this?" Coulson asked as Hannah and her friends shared worried looks as they hear the conversation. "I spoke to Ward." Fitz confessed about his conversation with a previous Shield agent who had willingly left and teamed up with Hydra, who was being held captive in a room in the main Shield building. "We'll talk about that when I get home. Nice work, Fitz." Coulson said.
"May, Hunter. Do either of you have eyes on Gill?" Coulson asked the two agents inside the ship. "Not yet." May told him. "Target is talking to Hydra." Hunter said, spotting Donnie talking to - what they think is - a Hydra agent. "End that conversation. Now." Coulson ordered. "Copy that." Hunter said as he raised his gun, aiming it for the back of the supposed Hydra agent talking to Donnie.
"You know what is best. What is best is you comply." Simmons spoke, still repeating everything Mr. Bakshi was telling her. Donnie blinked his eyes slowly as he tried to fight the urge to give in to the words Simmons was speaking.
"Simmons?" May questioned to herself as she suddenly recognized the person talking to Donnie. She then quickly fired her pistol, successfully getting Simmons to turn around and spot the two Shield agents standing on the platform above where she and Donnie were.
"You think I don't know what you're trying to do?" Donnie questioned Simmons after the distraction gave him enough time to collect himself. "You're just like the rest of them. You liar!" Donnie continued, angrily yelling the last part. He then lunged forward, going to grab Simmons, but only grabbing her coat as she quickly turned and started running. Donnie frustratedly dropped the now-ice-coated jacket as he followed Simmons.
"What am I hearing?" Coulson asked, picking up on the sudden commotion. "Simmons is here." May informed him. "Repeat. Simmons is on site with Hydra." May repeated. "Do we maintain her cover?" Hunter asked. "Yes. Maintain her cover." Coulson ordered. "What about the primary target?" Hunter questioned as he and May quickly started moving again. "If we can't take him in, we take him out." Coulson said, gaining the attention of Donnie's friends, his parents, and Hannah's parents. Knowing not to question their boss, the four adults bite their tongues to not question his order. "Do you copy?" Coulson asked. "Copy that." Came the reply from the two agents inside the ship.
As Simmons kept running, she stopped around a corner, seeing Mr. Bakshi and his agents waiting. "Is he far behind?" Mr. Bakshi asked. "Not far. I'm sorry. I tried." Simmons told him. "It's alright. Conditions are better here, anyway." Mr. Bakshi said. He then smirked to himself as he heard heavy, rushed footsteps get closer. "Good afternoon, Mr. Gill." Mr. Bakshi said, making Donnie stop in his tracks, taking on a scared expression when he saw the man. "You." Donnie spoke. "Take a deep breath." The man started, Simmons watching from behind him. "No." Donnie said, shaking his head as he knew what would happen. "Calm your mind." Mr. Bakshi continued. "No. No. Please. Please." Donnie begged. "You know what is best. What is best is you comply." Mr. Bakshi said. Donnie lightly shook his head, trying to fight it. "I don't..." Donnie mumbled. "Compliance will be rewarded." Mr. Bakshi said. "Mr. Gill..." Suddenly, Donnie stopped putting up a fight as his face now housed an emotionless expression. "Are you ready to comply?" Mr. Bakshi finished. "I'm happy to comply." Donnie said with a small nod and smirk. "Prove it, then. Keep us from being followed. Let's move!" Mr. Bakshi ordered before turning and leaving the ship, followed by his agents and Simmons with Donnie close behind. As they walked through the door, Donnie closed and locked it behind them. "What just happened?" Simmons asked Mr. Bakshi as Donnie was locking the door. "You laid the groundwork and gave us a second chance. He's with us again." Mr. Bakshi simply told her. Simmons glanced back over to see Donnie using his ice powers to freeze the lock on the door. "Let's head out!" Mr. Bakshi ordered after Donnie froze the lock. After walking a few feet, Mr. Bakshi stopped Donnie again. "Ice everyone inside this ship. No one leaves here alive." He ordered. Donnie walked over to the edge of the ship, looking down at the steel rail before placing both hands on the flat platform, starting to freeze the ship. Suddenly, a gun shot sounded and Donnie quickly turned from the force of being shot on the left side of his chest, just above where his heart is located. Dazed from the shot, Donnie took a few steps back, hitting the railing as he went over it, falling from the ship and breaking through the ice as he landed in the water. In a daze, Donnie stared up at the large hole in the ice above him as he fell deeper into the ocean, his body becoming frozen in ice as he slowly sunk further down.
